There is a white hot sun
And a big blue sea
From the 101
To the Tappan Zee
There is a shadow world
On the other side
And I will ride, ride, ride

I will grow impatient for your love
But you will not recognize
How I might die inside
Unless I ride

There is a hollow moon
And a big black sky
From Apollo's tomb
To the 405
There is a shadow world
On the other side
And I will ride ride ride

I will grow impatient for your love
But you will not recognize
How I might die inside
Unless I ride

I grow impatient for your love
But you will not recognize
How I might die inside
Unless I ride

I grow impatient for your love
But you will not recognize
How I might die inside
Unless I ride
Unless I ride
Unless I ride
Unless I ride
Unless I ride
Unless I ride
Unless I ride

I've been a fan since ages ago, before they really hit. Their live shows were (and probably still are) legendary. Saw them open for Chris Isaak (?) at the old Backyard in Austin, they would've torn the roof off the place if it had one.

Well I like this a lot! Give it an 8
I like the Old 97's and have for many years.
I do not agree that this track is a lesser effort.
I do believe that it is representative (in a good way) of the band.
I believe Rhett Miller has a quality, and distinctive, singing voice.
I hope to hear more 97's, including this track, on RP in the future.

nah, i've seen a lot of positive comments for them in times past; I have to agree that this song isn't representative of their overall work but PLEASE keep the 97's coming! (except maybe not this song...)

I'd like to build on that comment by adding:an additional "BLAH." Thank you.

Now that's funny right there.

I'm a huge fan of these guys but this is pretty blah. And yes, they do put on one hell of a live show.

Their music is so cool pretty good, but Rhett's voice sets my teeth on edge.

echoes of those college bands of the mid 80s
OK, I admit that this isn't one of their best songs, but the Old 97s are a fantastic band.  They are absolutely ferocious live!  Go see them any chance you get or try their live CD set "Alive and Wired" - it's in constant rotation on my iPod.
People.  I fell in love with this band because of this album.  {#Kiss}
Hundreds of plays, People.  And this is one of the top songs.  Really, its better in context of the whole album.
I feel like I'm watching a crappy teen movie from the 90's.

booooring.

Okay...and for another great song....

Saw these guys open up at a festival back in 1996/97 - put on a pretty good show, especially for the middle of the afternoon outside in the Houston summer... but never got any of their albums.

Decent song but nothing special imo... probably a good 6. From what I remember of the older stuff, live at least, a bit more raw, not as poppy.
