I wanna have friends that I can trust
That love me for the man I've become
Not the man that I was
And I wanna have friends that will let me be
All alone when being alone is all that I need

I wanna fit in to the perfect space
Feel natural and safe in a volatile place
And I wanna grow old without the pain
Give my body back to the earth and not complain
Will you understand when I am too old of a man?
And will you forget when we have paid our debt?
Who did we borrow from?
Who did we borrow from?

Okay part two now clear the house
The party's over take the shouting and the people
Get out!
I have some business and a promise that I have to hold to
I do not care what you assume or what the people
Told you!
Will you understand, when I am too old of a man?
Will you forget when we have paid our debts?
Who did we borrow from?
Who did we borrow from?

I wanna have pride like my mother has
And not like the kind in the bible that turns you bad
I wanna have friends that I can trust
That love me for the man I've become
Not the man that I was

Haven't really listened to these guys much, heard a few songs, but the two words that come to mind listening to this one are "formulaic" and "artless."  Meh

Formulaic?  This song?  Really?   How...umm I mean...ahh never mind.
RP is the 'Perfect Space' for the Avetts

Wow, you must have had a bunch of bad stuff happen in your life!

I like the Avery Brothers, this song starts strong and ends nice as well, but gets too weird in the middle to add to any playlists. I get that was their intent, but ruins it enough for me to skip

Being able to remember an experience is way better than having to read the news the next day.

Every time I see this album cover I think, "the night was...sultry".

This album is excellent ! ! !   Their live show is AWESOME ! ! !  Can't say enough about them musically and they are honest, down to earth nice guys that respect the fans.

I really want to see them, I have missed them the last two times they came through my town.  The live albums, particularly vol.3, are much better than the studio albums in my opinion.  For that matter, these last two albums (read 'Rick Ruben') have sort of lost some of the Avett enthusiasm.  Don't get me wrong, they are great albums, but they seem to be missing something to me.

Ditto.  You have to see them live to really get it.

I didn't think I would like this album, but I love it. I sure would love to go to Bonnaroo.

I love these guys!!  cannot wait until Spring 2011 when they play at the North Carolina Azalea Festival in my adopted hometown.  I never knew they used to perform a lot around here before they were "discovered".  it's nice to see a band remember its roots.

Al Yankovic switching tunes a whole lot of times without breaking stride is kinda neat, but hearing the Avett Brothers break into punk without blinking is way cooler.
BONNAROO!!!!  The Saturday Avett set on the Which Stage was excellent.

I want to grow old with out the pain too....love these boys.  Seeing them in two weeks at Delfest!  {#Dancingbanana_2}
Gotta love the Avetts!
First time I've heard these guys....very likeable, but I'm very fond of that southern sound{#Angel}
After a month of listening, I think this may be the best song on the album.

Shoulder in shadow , hair falling over shoulder...holding a skull, anticipating aging (further)
Already got my tickets for their show in Santa Barbara in April! Can't wait to see them live!
8 —> 9. Lyrics hit so close to home, presentation is melancholy yet hopeful. Wonderful.

Its worth checking out. Mineonette (I am butchering the spelling here) is everybit as good as this one...
I'm coming around to this one.  Nice

I like this band but not their new stuff. I think their early raw stuff was so much better.

Yeah, that's the first thing I thought. These are some of the best lyrics I've heard/read in a long time. Directly to the point, yet they lead to other places too.

Interesting.  Not sure I really like it yet.  But definitely worth cocking an ear.

Well said. I'm not yet hearing anything new, different, better or smarter than the other bands and musicians I am already familiar with in this genre. I'll get a chance to figure it out, as this band seems to be getting a large share of airtime.

This album (from the few songs I've heard so far).... SO DIFFERENT from their other stuff...{#Eek}
I think it's great and definitely more polished than earlier... but I'm more partial to the less polished earlier sound.  I think they are growing into something here... not quite there yet but getting there for sure.  Looking forward to watching/hearing them continue to evolve...
Gotta love it!!

A great song from one of my favorite albums of 2009.
Avett Brothers = Grace.

I'm a big country music fan, and I don't really hear any "country twang" here.

Mit dem alter fangt man an sich an country Musik zu intressieren...

Another band I wouldn't know except for RP. This is a terrific album.

I saw The Avett Brothers at The Fillmore in SF, amazing show. I didn't think these guys would be as good as they were and was blown away from their lyrics to how tightly they played. Thanks to RP for playing them!
reminds me of Counting Crows which I like very much.

Go, go, go to see them. They are a great live act.

Cool, .. I just heard them on RP too, researched the band, downloaded a few songs, loved them all, went to the store and purchased the CD.
" The Perfect Musical Discovery."
This sounds like something I should like but as yet its just not doing it for me. Maybe they will grow on me later..

there's just something... right about the Avett Brothers for me... I really can't put my finger on it at all, but they just strike me in a good way...
The fine singing and piano playing provokes a positive reaction in this listener. The preceding bland endorsement was brought to you by the makers of oatmeal....oatmeal, it makes a good breakfast cereal.  {#Shifty}
These guys are good.
Ben Folds Five?
I wanted to stand up and applaud when it ended ... not because it had ended, but because it was great!
Ugh, this is awful.  Alternating between droning atonal vocals and shouting atonal vocals.  The piano and vocals sound like they're in two different songs.
Oh My god. awesome.
Music from their soul, straight into yours.

{#High-five}

I do like this! Heard it a couple of times now here, is getting well under ma skin {#Whistle} Lyrics spot on, bit o' melodrama, bit o' thought stimulation.

That is quite a large right hand - Wonder if it was used to deliver the knock out punch to the skull.
