We drive until the gas is gone
And then walk until our feet are torn
Crawl until we feed the soil
Film the whole thing

It's all business in the left-hand lane
Drive there and then drive back again
Escape can't be the only way
To escape

So I've gotten used to coffee sweats
Still getting used to road regrets
And hell I took you up on all your threats
To leave

It's a shame
It's a crying shame
Them's the breaks
And ain't it always the way
That takes you back to from where it is you came

And Robbie likes his country tunes
It's never been the lens that I see through
But I guess driving for a week or two
Puts words in your mouth

So find dodge and then get out of it
It's about as country as I get
So you ain't living 'til you're living it
Not dead 'til you die

But watch out for the paraphrase
'Cause they will crown you and they will take your legs
See the gas is more than what you get paid
But do it anyway

It's a shame
It's a crying shame
Them's the breaks
And ain't it always the way
That takes you back to from where it is you came

It's a shame
It's a crying shame
Them's the breaks
And ain't it always the way
It takes you back to from where it is you came

You must be kidding/sarcastic.

It's no secret that the Queen loves a pearl necklace.

Never heard this but like it.
Dan would be laughing hysterically to learn that he followed Radiohead in a music mix of any kind anywhere. But then, this IS Radio Paradise.
Don't understand the need to react to anyone's opinion to the point of used energy and emotion. Like it? Then like it...hate it? Then hate it...who really cares? If you're gonna say something here in the forum to a negative extent then for crying out loud...have some humor. Get it? Goooooood!!! Geeeeeeeez. {#Beat}
Took me awhile, but I like this guy and love this song
I'm sorry but the guitar rhythm is really annoying.
INTELLIGENT MUSIC.
And from a fellow Canadian eh.
You all know what I like about Dan Mangan, right?  I only hear these guys on RP!  {#Whistle}

In summer of 2011 you wrote to me:
"Anyway - just wanted to let you know that I think we're on the same page. Big hugs to you..."

As you know, I do not read Stephan King novels, (Gr)Annie,
one reason why it's hard to be on the same page.
Wishes to the police-chief in Oregon,

Stingray

ABSOLUTELY SUPER-TERRIBLE!
Among the worst I have heard on RP!
MUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just not feelin' it for Mr. Mangan, and if I ever hear Robots again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have you people even listened to the song?
Do you have your computer hooked up to your old AM radio?
There is angst, openness, heart and soul, not to mention humour in his songs.
The real deal.
I saw this guy in a small venue. WOW, what a show!

Check out the animated video of this song.

I'm in Cascadia's 2nd floor (Portland), but I agree with you Macadavy.  Good music.

Shut up Physicsgenius.
dare i say that this song follows the trend of current music in sound, but does it one better...?  dig.

I'd like to think the UK could get some credit with the Beatles...  Sure, early Brit rock may have been influenced by black jazz and soul artists, but to say that the US gave birth to all modern music is more then a bit of a stretch.

Unless I'm missing some irony somewhere...

It's a shame, it's a crying shame, that this song contains only four notes, but them's the breaks {#Sleep}

Love this album.

(will this push the comments down far enough that I don't see the word Stingray ?)  yep... perfect.

Honey, you really need to get back on your medication.  Do it soon. Today. And feel free to go away until the drugs kick in and make you a human being again.

Decent... starts off a little too retarded, but it truly isn't bad by the end.  This song's gotta be an acquired taste.

Deep thoughts Stingray

Mangan's music is getting around.  I believe the ending scene of last week's Stargate-Universe featured one of his songs.  Considering the show is shot in Vancouver, using a local indie artist's music is a nice touch.

Good music.

I've seen Dan Mangan guy get 300 people clapping in unison... 'because Robots need love too!'

Very cool and very good at what he does.

Also quite a humble guy after the show while selling just enough merchandise to get to the next town...
ROCK ON DANNY BOY!

Been listening to this and the Upload channel for an hour and this one gets the highest rating thus far (a 9). The opening lyrics are powerful and ring true for me:

We drive until the gas is gone
And then walk until our feet are torn
Crawl until we feed the soil

This is called commitment.

Oh my.  How very naughty.  High comedy, indeed.

OK Bill.... here's another fine mess you have gotten me into....  could not resist any  longer, I had to have this album.  The Amazon price is outrageous, 30 bucks, but if you folks follow links to the Dan's website the download is quite reasonable.  Sorry Bill... no Amazon commission this time, but I normally use that route.

Mangan's a refreshing new voice to hear on RP.  Plus, he is from the Pacific NW, so he must be good.
if you're going to play him, play this song. so much better than the robots one.
One of those that I want to like, but it doesn't quite come together for me.  It's a shame, shame, shame, a crying shame.
 martinc wrote:

Love Danny. My gosh, I didn't even SEE the earrings! Hilarious.
"It's a crying shame ..."
A shame more people aren't keen to this intelligent Canadian artist.

Keep finding myself with this chorus stuck in my head... moving up from 7 to 8.

Just saw the newly signed (Arts & Crafts) Mangan play a showcase at Canadian Music Week in Toronto.  His energy, stage-presence and ability to play off the crowd will bring him big things in the near future.  Kudos to RP for discovering this clever lyricist.

Oh, Dan Mangan, come to Beijing! Please.
I enjoy this song.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Dan performing on an NBC talk show that starts at 11:35pm in the future...

...nice, nice, very nice...
I like this story.
I really like this song.  It caught me from the start and contrary to some others' comments, I thought some of the lyrics were really quite cleverly descriptive.  Oh well, to each his own...

BTW, I was pleased to see the song rating go up a notch after I rated it.   {#Shhh}

More than one guitar chord would be nice, too.

re: serendipity.

my friend's band was just touring with him. maybe you saw them in london too! woo.

Too much rhyming. The lyrics make me cringe.

Hey cool!  I saw this guy while I was in London two weeks ago; though I'd never heard of him, I was meeting a friend who is a big fan.  Turned out to be a pretty great show, and now I come back and he's being played on RP.  Serendipity seems to dictate that I buy his album...
Sounds like the Frames
really enjoyable song. it's funny how this works out... i just called my local radio station in vancouver the other day about this song. and wouldn't you know, he's a vancouver-ite. reminded me of 'the Church' when i first heard it.

Judging by that acoustic guitar in the start I think a more apt title would be Road Tourettes.
