I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can beat them, just for one day
We can be heroes, just for one day

And you, you can be mean
And I, I'll drink all the time
'Cause we're lovers, and that is a fact
Yes we're lovers, and that is that
Though nothing will keep us together
We could steal time just for one day
We can be heroes for ever and ever
What d'you say?

I, I wish you could swim
Like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim
Though nothing, nothing will keep us together
We can beat them, for ever and ever
Oh we can be Heroes, just for one day

I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can be Heroes, just for one day
We can be us, just for one day

I, I can remember (I remember)
Standing, by the wall (by the wall)
And the guns, shot above our heads (over our heads)
And we kissed, as though nothing could fall (nothing could fall)
And the shame, was on the other side
Oh we can beat them, for ever and ever
Then we could be Heroes, just for one day

We can be Heroes
We can be Heroes
We can be Heroes
Just for one day
We can be Heroes

We're nothing, and nothing will help us
Maybe we're lying, then you better not stay
But we could be safer, just for one day

Oh-oh-oh-ohh, oh-oh-oh-ohh, just for one day

Really Peter Gabriel?  Really???

Does this guy think that he can take any song . . scratch that . . . some of the greatest songs ever . . . and make them better by giving them his dream sequence pace, no rhythm, droning voice and hyper orchestral backings?  Come on.
Once I stopped comparing this to Bowie's version I realized I like it, mostly.  The background music is very nice but I like that kind of dissonance, particularly with string instruments.  Gabriel sounds a bit constrained and, if I tried to describe it, I would say that the vocal track sounds out of balance with the music.  Too pronounced.

Stop it, Peter, stop it. It's okay to cover something, but not to bury it.
No one does this song like Marianne Faithful ...  Please, let's just hear Marianne's Heroes ... for EVERY day!

I liked that part as well but his vocals and the tempo just didn't capture the original spirit of the song, IMO.

Ho^Hum
are you hearing this now?  I'm still listening to the last song on my computer?

I've been a PG fan for nigh on 20 odd years and this one gets the big NOPE from me. BZZZZT. Keep the fabulous string arranger, but please try again.
Up to now, I've liked most of what Peter Gabriel does. But this. . .
Simon

"Mr Gabriel, you've gone from hero to zero. That song choice was terrible, the arrangement was atrocious and you're singing was horrible. At this stage I don't think you're going to survive the competition."

As for that twit peter_james_bond, he kind of likes it (but he has pitch control problems). {#Wink}

I think he does a nice job with it.  The other songs on the album I'm not sure yet, but as usual Bill and Rebecca find the good ones for us.

Like so many, I'm simply stunned by the complete and total awfulness of this. And I'm really a Peter Gabriel fan. Never thought I'd give him a 1, but he really earned it here.

Please, Bill, put this wretched mess to sleep!
It pains me to write this as I doubt there's a bigger PG fan, yet this version is painful to listen to; emotion is there, yet the execution is sorry.

I usually really like Peter Gabriel but this album's not really doing anything for me apart from the string arrangements.  I'd love to hear an instrumental version of it.
What is this? Now I need to listen to all of "So" just to get the bad taste out of my ears.
I couldn't believe that the entire album was this boring.

I love Gabriel and this really is a terrible cover. Solid 1. What was he thinking. This song has such energy and he totally deflated it to boredom.{#Taped-shut}

I'm plenty old enough to have partaken of the original.

It's just Bowie is like Citizen Kane for me. I know OF his being good, I just haven't gotten to it yet. Happens sometimes ya know?

Yeah! I was amongst to give this a sucko barfo rating!! Admittedly I do not like Peter Gabriel, so I said that I was going to be fair and listen to the whole song from start to finish before rating and by God ol' Peter lived up to his image and this song did indeed suck As#!! Yay!{#Dancingbanana_2}{#Puke}{#Lol}

As a PG fan, I was going to give you hell for that comment, but unfortunately my opinion is not differing much from yours.  Even Peter can't make this a good song.  His cover of Listening Wind is my favorite from this album, so far.

Edit:  At least it's better than The Wallflowers' version...

I think a simple dramatic reading - a la William Shatner would have been more compelling.

I love Peter Gabriel, and this cover is AWFUL.  WTF was he thinking.
1 from me.

Very interesting.  First that I've heard about this project, but I think I like it.

Yeah, right. Nice way of putting it.
Commits the sin of going nowhere slowly. Has to have more going on than that to justify messing with the original.
Really not sure about this at all. I think I like his original material much better.

I think this is a cover that the world didn't really need.

Interesting and unusual.
There is generally not going to be much to make me yearn for David Bowie, but sadly, this does it.
Like the crispy string arrangement.
Not a compelling cover, imo.
I think I like his song selections better than his job of covering them.  Too bad- I really wanted to like this stuff.
I know he's trying to put his own spin on a great song, but it is plainly a miss.
big love!
Interesting how many ratings before the song is even played out for the first time...
I'm just not sure you can touch this song without sounding much worse than the original.
ug, this is awful
Sweet!
...whoah - it's already out?!.
Slow start. After The Smiths it's a downer.
