Beneath the dance hall lights
You see my girl so sound
Lights up the ground
If you give up New York
I'll give you Tennessee
The only place to be

The cowboy's burning eyes
Don't like the sight of me
Just straight enough to breathe
I like your point of view
So don't shy away
Ride out the wave

Ride out the wave

You had me holding on
Another time and place
Ride out the wave
Bury yourself away
The one and only face
Ride out the wave

Ride out the wave

I just really have a hard time liking this band.  I've tried - I HAVE! Maybe it's because they use the word "KINGS" in their name... No, that's lame. Maybe it's because they refused to take a gig in Portland.  I don't know. I just don't like them.  And their music is not happy-making to my ears (and my ears are pretty music-friendly.)

Whatever. I don't like this band, but I also don't revile anyone who does. They work for you, and that's good. {#Mrgreen}

Funny. I have a hard time not liking this band. I immediately liked the riff and, before I even knew who it was, I was thinking 'as long as the vocals don't ruin it, I'll be buying this song'. I immediately liked the vocals 'cause, for some reason that many others below don't agree with, I think this guy's got a great voice.

It's fantatstic how we can all agree to disagree about these songs, yet we're all back for more RP. Thanks Bill!

These guys deserve to be more popular than they are.
i don't like neither deslike
Just needs a little more diversity in the lyrics at the end there.

I couldn't listen to a 30-minute block of KoL, but I like this guy's voice for the most part. He's far, far better than the guy singing for The Killers.

Oddly, this one draws me in where their earlier work doesn't appeal to me as much.  At least in comparison to some of the comments that I've read here.
Not fond of this band.  Singing always grates on me.

Probably my fav song on the new album.

The guitars in this remind me of Telstar, ...by the Ventures maybe?

I too wonder what makes a band "deserve" to be popular?   btw I've been listening to KOL since youth and young manhood.  To me, their music has matured through the albums.   That said, maturing is neither good or bad.  Simply a natural occurance in all aspects of life.  You can't stop time.  Hopefully humans are capable of assessing their current state and continuing to move forward.  Otherwise what is life?

maturing, yes....
first album       = 5 stars
second album = 4 stars
third album      = 3 stars....

unfortunately, you get the picture.

Blech.

Those last few "ra-a-a-a-ahd out the wa-a-ave"s bumped it from a 4 down to a 2.

I just posted about the best 4-song set ever:

Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
Beth Orton - Thinking About Tomorrow
Jason Lytle - Brand New Sun
Neil Young - After the Gold Rush

(bottom to top)

...and now we've got possibly the WORST:

Kings Of Leon - The Face
The Call - Let the Day Begin
Moody Blues - Ride My See-Saw
RJD2 - 1976.

(bottom to top)

RP, you're a study in contrasts.  Even when it feels like you're f***ing with me, I love ya.

It's a couple of months later now and we have a repeat of these same sets... your assessment is still exactly on target Roulleau! {#Yes}

Thankfully for many of us, Bill doesn't agree. I've liked this band since the first album, seen them live 4 times, and still think they are incredibly talented.

I don't like KOL much, or rather the singer's voice as he always sounds to me like he's trying to strain a big log out at the john, but the statement above contains rather a lot of baggage - it could probably need some pages to fully deconstruct. The summary of the summary, though, is that a band is popular because people buy their music. What makes folk buy music is another matter altogether, as is the musical quality of the band. 'Deserve' doesn't come into it, I'm afraid. Err, that's it.

Blech.

This is pretty good. I don't particularly care for this guy's voice most of the time.
i'm impressed {#Hearteyes}
Sorry, I just can't take the morose hillbilly vocals.

outstandin' album!

Much better than that inane "Your Sex is On Fire" but they've not got much going for them.
I expect more tracks will be played from this quite excellent album. Edit:
And some one just awarded this song its first #1 !! {#Lol}

I like it. . .

These guys are more popular than they deserve to be.
