Never been much of an Ozzy fan. Nor do I dislike covers (unless they don't deserve the name). But apart from any connection to the original - this thing sounds like your everyday teenage wannabe Youtube starlet. Yuck.

These ears aren't keen, especially when followed by Bjork, who demonstrates admirably how to produce perfectly mad stuff.
If you make a cover, either improve on the original which is often quite hard to do. Or make a radical interpretation on it. This one really works for me, nice job!

This works for me far better than the original, the orchestration (especially the strings) really drive the feel. Stunning development of the original piece, from a slightly more general viewpoint.
If the playlist is going to go this route, at least use some Leningrad Cowboys or Me First & The Gimme Gimmes so we don't feel like we're at a funeral.

This is how one does a cover - complete reinvention of the song. Like Devo's Satisfaction, Bryan Ferry's Like a Hurricane, etc. There was once a band called Jackpot in CA out of Sacramento I believe. Anyway, they did this downtempo version of Hell's Bells that was brilliant. It would always catch everyone off guard because they wouldn't recognize it until the chorus. Done at about 1/4 speed.
Really happy when this comes on. Brilliant, touching.

I love the original, I think this needs a couple more listens before I can give it a good rating ... it feels wishy washy so far. Still, much braver cover than I'd do!

I just listened to the BS version, and I think the main difference (besides the obvious ones) is that the way Ozzy sings it, it just sounds like the ravings of a disturbed individual. Whereas the way the woman in Hellsongs sings it, it becomes more like a universal cry of despair, in response to the kinds of setbacks and frustrations that most or all people face in life.
This song is interesting only because it's a cover. Probably wouldn't like it at all if I weren't already familiar with the original.
Some songs are all about the performance of the band and producer (the style) rather than the inherent refinement of the music and lyric (the content), and Paranoid, it is revealed by this rendition, falls rather under par with regard to its content.
This is no more than a gimmick, it adds nothing, in my view, to my appreciation of the song (compared with, say, Katie Melua's version of Just Like Heaven, or even Lily Allen's Naive), and fails to tickle my fancy in any way towards the band. I betcha, though, that Black Sabbath could have done a cracking job on Rebecca Black's Friday Night. Wow, I'd pay to hear that!

While I was in Canada (spring/summer 2011) I heard a cover of this song by a local rock band (i think it was aired on Cold Lake's radio station) and it was far more superior to this one. It was somewhere half way between the mood of this rendition and the original. I wish i could find it....
No song is sacrosanct (well........) but to cover this in this way is just wrong, awful, boring etc etc

While at work, I had this at a 3. I usually don't rate songs that low, but it rubbed me the wrong way. Now I'm at home after a long day but still working, listening through headphones with a glass of scotch, and I'm bumping up to a 6. Still not a great song, but not as intolerable as the first time I heard it.

I'd say fortunately. Take away the driving heavy rock of the Sabbath original and you do have some pretty basic lyrics. I really like this cover, and IMO it's a major improvement on the clichéd original. 8 from the Nottingham jury.

Whoa. Her voice, the sparse instrumentation, and these lyrics combine to make something special. Not sure if it's good or just plain scary.
This is pretty good, but my favorite of theirs is the cover of Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills
I think the treatment of the song is ironic. Irony is totally awesome!!!!

This sort of thing works well in some cases (check out Nouvelle Vague - great versions of some classics inc. 'Love Will Tear Us Apart') but this particular song doesn't do it for me.

I, for one, never heard of the original but liked this immediately. I went back to hear the original and found it "interesting"—and enlightening of why I never heard of it! (I really like that Hellsongs put this out.)

I burned this whole CD and listened to it the other day - very impressive! Especially this song, "Blackened," "Symphony of Destruction," and "Seasons in the Abyss". Just like this cut, really makes you focus on the meaning of the lyrics.
