I'm not sure about this one. It sounds rather Alanis Morissette-ish to me.

1980-1990s = mixtape. 2000+ = playlist. Same thing, different terminology. And current technology makes it soooo much easier to put together and playlist. I think the availability of a wider range of music and the ease of which songs can be put on and off lists will take away from the art of making a thoughtful and meaningful mixtape/playlist.

I was just over at my ex's looking through some of the ones I made for him in the mid-late 90s. Such cool and interesting time capsules.
However did I manage to have so much spare time?
I don't really like how the song sounds, but I love the reference of making mixed tapes with home made covers and audio love letters.

"Dated"? I guess everyone has some sound or recording effect that annoys them. Remind your producer to leave that effect off of your next album.

Linguistically, it makes sense to me - the concept of a "mixtape" is perhaps now divorced from its underlying medium.
Similarly, I might "tape" a TV show even though I'm using DVR software running on my desktop computer. A much older example is "ship": it's a verbed noun (the underlying noun has a proto-Germanic roots, the verb has been around for centuries), but we still use it even if we're not sending packages on a literal ship.

Tift Merritt on RP? Anything is possible now. Caught her at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Yeah, Eurotypes, this is what some "country" music sounds like these days. Confusion reigns.
Very nice song. Finally something other than overplayed Neil Young.
For what it's worth, this song has been getting heavy rotation on the Spectrum channel at Sirius/XM. Really enjoyed it there. Hopefully, people will welcome it here.
