It's been a long time
Since I've seen your smiling face
It's been a long time
Since I've seen a su-u-u-u-u-u-unny day

It's been a long time
Since you wore your pillbox hat
It's been a long time
Since we drove your Po-o-o-o-o-o-ontiac

It's been a long time
Since you gave me bu-u-u-u-u-u-u-utterflies
It's been a long time
Since I've seen it bu-u-u-u-u-u-urning in your eyes

But I don't mind (I don't mind)
No, I don't (I don't mind)
No, I don't (I don't mind)
When I've got you next to me

It's been a long time
Since we tripped into this ditch
It's been a long time
Since we drank the ar-r-r-r-r-r-rsenic

It's been a long time
Since we've been insi-i-i-i-i-i-ide of this tomb
It's been a long time
Since you wore your e-e-e-e-e-expensive French perfume

But I don't mind (I don't mind)
No, I don't (I don't mind)
But I don't (I don't mind)
When I've got you next to me
Next to me

It's been a long time
Since I've seen your smiling face
It's been a long time
Since I've seen a su-u-u-u-u-u-unny day

These guys always make me pay attention and appreciate what they're doing.
I don't often get to use the word "unique", but...
Is that some Delay Lama?
Fun fact: Xan McCurdy (guitarist for Cake) went to high school with Kevin Cadogan (formerly of Third Eye Blind). They were in the same class (1988) and each was lead guitarist in 'competing' bands and occasionally shared the stage.  I still have the concert flyers that we hung on telephone poles to advertise.
Forget the 401k - I'm depending on the value of my Record Day Sale Cake Box Set to retire with
The end of this song with the groove and staccato horn riff is damn cool.

Death.  No, Cake!

(I really hope you're Church of England.)
I cannot not sing along with this! Every time!
This song makes me happy. The video ... not so much.
So, i listen and don't watch and all is well.

CAKE, please!
It's been a long time....  since there was a new Cake album.
Has it been a long time?
This Cake just never gets old for me.

I know, right?  I only have this one rated at an 8....and BillG does love himself some CAKE, so you'll get another tasty tune soon....Long Live RP!!
Deep Tracks, episode Cake
Great album title

I like 'em. Say what you want about them, these guys aren't trying to copy anybody else. Originality with this good of a beat will win me over every time.
First time I heard a song by Cake in the 90s my mind was blown. I was on an amusement park ride. Every time we swung past the operator of the ride I’d say “who is this” he’d say something back to me but a one syllable word just did not compute at the velocity we were going. Over and over this went on until the ride was over. Love at first listen !!
Love this song! I'm compelled to sing along every time, from pillbox hat through Po-o-o-o-o-o-ontiac!!
Pfffffffffffffttt   the cake is stale
Fabulous vibe and voice

It has been a Cake-tastic day! Driving to work I PSD'd my way to a Cake song and when the PSD was over another Cake song was on. Now this tonight! Woot!

If that'd happened to me, I would have changed my name to Job.

Oh God, it's still playing. The agony of a too-short PSD song...
Their saccharine melodies and harmonies (i.e. "cake") over their cynicism bothers me. If it weren't for their lyrics, I suppose they would be OK if not boring.
Makes me think of an episode of Shameless in which this is played.  The song works well in what is a really creepy scene.
more cake pls!
{#Cheesygrin}
No more cake please! 😃
More cake please! 😃
first time I'm hearing this song and I LOVE it, it's excellent, the singer has a beautiful voice and it fits well with the background vocals. The music itself is energising and yet a bit "floating". Really, excellent !
Me likey like Cake.
{#Chef}
Cake's playing New Years Eve at City National Civic, San José, CA (9 p.m., top tickets are $125). Should be a fun show!
I'm being haunted by things of a long time ago!
Cake is yum yum
Trop bien ! c'est vraiment bon comme son !

it's great ! it's a nice song !  {#Cheesygrin}

These guys are GREAT! Slap that vibra!

vibra slap

I love how this thing sneaks along and thens leaps right into that bad-ass bass line and trippy rhythms...sometimes a bit of Cake is TOPS!
Mmmmmmmm.....Cake....................more CAKE please!

Sweet!  I love the sound of Cake, as well as the brilliant and witty lyrics.  Play Bound Away for us!

I generally like Cake songs but their most 'popular' songs are almost novelty tunes or the main attribute is a snappy, clever title or lyric. That tends to get outdated for me.

This is a nice little melodic gem. I don't know their catalog thoroughly but it's nice to hear something more straightforward from them.

You should grab an album or two - they are all good - Fashion Nugget & Prolonging the Magic are probably my favs - their second & third.
I love me some Cake!  Great talent, unique & fun.  Not my favorite Cake tune, but nice nonetheless.

Bill has been playing an absolutely fantastic mix of music this afternoon!  If there is a quality award for his little niche of the music industry ("distribution", "packaging", "packing AND distribution" or something like that?) I say Bill should DEFINITELY be nominated for an award.  And if there isn't that kind award, there should be and Bill should get it.  I've been a RP fan for at least 8 years, maybe 10 or 11, and I've watched it grow and evolve, adding interesting features all the time, never staying static, and ALWAYS playing an incredibly rich and varied mix of music.  Bill and Rebecca deserve a lot of appreciation for what they've created here.  {#Cheers}

Totally agree (and 've been a long time listener as well) but as I understood it once, mainly Rebecca deserves this praise, since she's responsible for the playlist whereas Bill comments and sooths the records together. But I could be wrong (or this might have changed over the years).

On the subject Cake -Long Time. Always great to listen to the extraordinary cool voice of Cake; not their best song though (7/10).

I like the group but not this song
I've had enough cake.
Love Cake but the new album seems a little bit formulaic.

Specialists in cute, witty lyrics.  And I'm sure Jackie O is still wearing pillbox hats in her inimitable stylish and sexy manner — wherever she is today.

Specialists in silly meaningless lyrics.
No one! No one wore them anymore in 1966 either, when Dylan's classic song was recorded. (That was the point).

How about it, Bill? A perfect "inside" segue here would be to "Leopard-Skin Pillbox Hat!"
(IMHO, it ranks among the funniest songs Dylan ever wrote).

edit: I just checked the RP playlist, and LSPH is on there. Very interesting! The song has never been played on RP, and yet 12 listeners have rated it, for an average of 8.7!

What a golden opportunity to remedy an oversight!

The story/lyrics behind this tune are what gets me. What a chilling surprise.
i just love Cake.  call it what you will, but it always puts a smile on me face.  silly good stuff; for all the  full oats too serious coffee shop revolutionariness distasters, I'll take a triple with some coffee Cake.  i tried to toy the trumpet once and was no better than Sasquatch, so i dig that element especially.

PS remember what Gandhi said, kids?  Yeah me neither, but Cake is the shizznitch!

Sorry you don't like them.  I really, really like them because they have a trumpet and vibraslap incorporated into music that delightfully accompanies the wittiest pop lyrics I've heard since Zappa died.  Hardly mediocre, sir.  Who says music has to be deep and full of ethical meaning?

Just my opinion, and, for what it's worth, my kids think I'm a moron.

My kids think you're a moron too.

Just kidding. I don't have kids, and I love Cake. I just had to take a swing at that one. :-)
And Cake is *still* playing the same song over and over again...
Not bad.
How's the rest of the album?

I'd rather be a smartass than a dumbass. FWIW, that reply earned me an automatic beating from my father until I was old enough to stop him. I bore the marks proudly, as I will any negative response to my love of CAKE!

Wit?

Well, OK then....

(And my Ouija board says Frank wants an apology. But he likes your kids.)
I love this song. Very creative
Either I'm getting hipper or they're getting better but I like.
This song is extremely boring, zzzzzzzzzzzz, sorry, can't seem to stay awake{#Sleep}
This song is amazing. At first I thought it was about lovers that had been together for a long time. But then there was something about arsenic and a tomb...

{#High-five}  nice reply...how can you not feel better after listening to Cake.  Your kids will come around too.

They got away with it for all those years, and you've finally uncovered the ruthless agenda perpetrated on all of their clueless fans. Amazing work, Michael.

More of the same. Heard one Cake album, heard 'em all. There are no discernible differences to me. {#Sleep}
My wife and I were just talking yesterday how you can usually pick out a Cake song within the first second or two. . .not this one though! Interesting first listen. . .
