I've always been amazed by their work — staggering! The view reminds me of the Ritz Carlton lobby on the 54th Floor of Tokyo Tower.

And early Yes, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Camel, Talk Talk.  Wilson is also a big fan of Beach Boys, Kate Bush, XTC and many others.  More recently you see ambient electronica influencing Steven Wilson's last two albums, e.g., Boards of Canada.

Sounds kind of Mr. Wilson'ish to me and I love P Tree. I'll listen to more... Just checked and it is Mr. Wilson. Guess that explains it.

I rather quite like Raven that refused to sing.  That band?  Took a few listens.  Similar to early Yes.  Similar to King Crimson.  Lots of jazz influence.  I kinda think this is his best post-PT solo effort to date.

A great live double CD + DVD from PT Octane Twisted is available now.

I was very disappointed with the new SW band , the only time I can remember leaving a gig early. Far too much Robert Fripp, jazziness and squeaky saxophones for me.  

Blackfield are good, but No Man leaves ma cold .

NOPE. Blackfield is one of Steven Wilson's alternate incarnation bands / collaborations. (SW is PT's creator and frontman, of course.)

Nice to hear a new (for me) Blackfield album here on RP. Guess I missed it... haven't been watching SW / PT / BF closely enough.

I like the latest BF album quite a bit. What I am REALLY looking forward to is SW's new solo album Grace for Drowning (due out Sept 27). The samples I listened to are just fantastic. {#Music}

This one gets a little proggy by BF standards. I like what I am hearing   {#Yes}

No.  sounds like Blackfield.  Though one voice does sound an awful lot like Steven Wilson.  The plodding, melancholic, synth-saturated chorus is Blackfield, not Porcupine Tree.

I suppose some of the 'production values' are recognizable from PT's work.

Maybe, but it's Steve Wilson singing it, and his voice is quite distinctive. This does have a very PT sound, IMO. Which is no bad thing. 8 from the Nottingham jury.
