You want to be credited with good music, Redlight?  Make your own. Points granted for sincerity and decent lyrics. But Neil Y, Eminem, Everlast, Jurassic V, et al been there, done this.

"aegipanic"? {#Stupid}

Pretty good cover, IMO. Mind you, I could never stand Neil Young's voice, for all that I seriously respect him as a musician and songwriter.

Agreed

Believe me, I am NOT arguing against having more variety on RP (which is part of what makes it great) but 2520 songs is not 'all' of them. If there were indeed only 2520 songs available in the world, I could see an argument for playing this. But there are at least a squillion. So...

At least it's better than Neil Young!

i love how "purists" get all  high and mighty when they talk about sampling. plagiarism is not cool. (see isley brothers vs. michael bolton, vanilla ice vs. david bowie and queen, etc.) this is not plagiarism, it is sampling. sampling, to me, is no different than a sculptor using found objects. clearly, he has the permission of neil young to do this.

White boy cheesy Kid Rock wannabe Hip-Hop. This will not help anyone who has not been exposed to true Hip-Hop.{#Snooty}

Exactly!  I have gotten so much "new" music from this station, I want Bill to keep choosing anything he feels is worth playing....

Is it over yet?

I dare not to turn on my radio... yet.

I don't know..."real artists" have been covering each others work for years.  I look at this more as more of a cover than a sampling.

It's nice to see at least *someone* recognize the value of fathers in their children's lives. This song should be blasted at every feminist man-hating rally to drown out their anti-father screeching.
Is this a 1 hit wonder or does this guy have any depth?

Sounds too much like a Kidd Rock knock-off song.
About deviating from your own mainstream, I think there are more deserving genres out there that are overlooked by RP than whatever this is.

Coming out of the song, Bill just said that Neil likes it!  Eh...it is something different, that is what RP is all about.

Just hear Bill say "And Neil Young likes it".  I can't believe that.

Ha, I definitely don't dislike this as much as some other folks on here, but it's not all that great, either. :)
I never ask for anything on here, it'd be cool if this wasn't played.

In general, when songs are communally rated very low are they removed?
- 1,000
Nice set — Sugar Mountain > Old Man.  Prolly already posted this, but I think this is a great tool for making NY's music relevant to a younger generation.  It has worked in my household, anyhow.
why does not RP give you a 'zero' option, or better still a negative number?

What kinda crap is this?  Grrrrr.  Can't believe Neil let him use part of this song!  If I could give it a negative rating, I would

This is ok, at least some semblance of Hip-Hop has made RP. Does this open the door?{#Cowboy}
:-(.........
He sounds like an utter weapon.
Yo, yeah, huh!
It's called humour and style, you have none.
jog on
I am throwing up in my mouth right now. whats next limp bizkit?

I would be a happy camper if I never heard this song here again.
I like it.
Now you've been through the worst and you know who to trust
Leave 'em somethin' behind before the ashes and dust

{#Confused} ...hmmm Niel OKed it,still I will have to listen some more times.

Sacrilege!

Way to go, Bill. Long live the last DJ.

Fair enough...  {#Yes}

Got to give 'em credit for a nice job of sampling Young. I dig the beat, lyrics, and moving visuals for the video. It's a song that actually says something meaningful about life and the impact of our fathers, which is what Young was doing in the original. Way to go...
fatcatjb cover rules:
1) pay tribute to the original
2) make it your own

And Neil said yes!

Love it! :)

Bill just verified that Neil says he likes it. That's plenty good enough for me! 8

wtf? is nothing sacred?
Still liking it!

Quite timely, in a way.  Thanks RP!
Is there a rating lower than 1?
~sigh~
insert headshake and eyeball roll here.
Gotta say, I like this.
Love Neil
Enjoyed this too!
This guy pisses me off.  Poseur with a neck tattoo cruising his beater bike around Hollywood preaching about how hard he had it growing up and how he's got to keep it real.
Really enjoyed that tune! Nice eclecticness!

Excellent work RP folks, keep mixing it up! Indeed eclectic means eclectic & that's why RP is so kick ass.
Actually an interesting cover, but stylistically nothing new. In fact, sounds like Redlight King just copied old Toby Mac and hoped no one would notice.

Thanks, Dex. Nice catch.
I love this! This is a great piece of music, that pulls from the past, talks to the future, and grabs you.

And for the haters, is eclectic really eclectic, or do you think it means playing Neil Young AND CSNY?

Bit of a 'marmite' response to this track..

I like marmite, and I kinda like this. Well my left foot does, it's happily tapping along..

Oh Hell No!
Kid Rock wannabe doing mediocre hip hop with a song that rides on the cultural memory of Neil's classic.

I concur and hope their is no more of this ilk here...
Found this on youtube and played it for my teenage sons who thought it was good, in part due to the motorhead-oriented lyrics (which is big in my household).  They are no longer surprised when I bring home some pretty "cool" stuff for them to listen to.  Thanks RP!
Sucko-Barfo is RIGHT! :P
Bet Neil likes this. I do.
Why?

Proper emotion, respect, and heart - I think Neil would approve, I certainly do. . .

Sounds fine enough to me and I love Neil Young's music
Still a bloody 1.

One listener's crap is another's gold, or at least silver, and the Nottingham jury gives this 8 points. I can imagine that Neil Young fans might consider this, or any other, cover to be sacrilege, but as I've a lot of respect for his songwriting but can't bear his voice I much prefer covers to the original.

Holy crap I completely forgot I was listening to Radio Paradise because it's the first time I've ever heard hip-hop here. Judging by the rating I'd say that Radio Paradise just became more eclectic than its audience. This is a solid 6 although I gave it a 10, kinda like the way you give the new kid a gold star so they feel better about trying really hard. I read the lyrics and they have at least as much meaning as your typical Neko Case song, so get over it, haters.

Hear, hear!  I agree totally.  More of this and less of Fleet Foxes would be my choice....

THANK YOU, RP for taking a chance and stretching out your offers!
Neil is a personal HERO and its a total coup! for RP to let us in on his one and only first authorized Sample.. very very cool keep it up!
Not sure what the hippie part refers to lol but I like it and I am older then dirt lol considered my self a "hippy type" guy way back when,  mentally im still a hippie and I still like this version.  RP takes chances and some work some don't mute or fly away !  Photo-John wrote:

Pure blasphemy. Neil should be ashamed of this abomination of his genious.
Still not ready to rate this. Need to hear it again after finals.
Some day, people will realize that laying down a lame rap over a classic song is like mutilating puppies.... Until then, I will change the channel or hit mute whenever this crap is played.

complete lack of originality.......crap
I like hearing a new song on RP now and again, and this one is just fine.
Hip Hop-ish on RP?  What is going on ?  Never hear this artist before.  He is ok I suppose, tho I really prefer Jurassic5, Blackalicious and People Under the Stairs.
Oh Jesus... No No NO No NOOOOOOO...

Scores points for originality, and for making the juxtaposition of hip-hop and Neil Young actually work.
Why not...
This is really good stuff. The only way to listen to Neil, for one thing, and a great take for a new era.

Don't worry about the graybeards and tongue-waggers who think Neil walks on water and should be treated like a saint's relics. Time marches on! Always forward, never straight!
wow, just when I though you couldn't make neil young any worse.
WTF!  Can't wait to play this for my teenage sons and get their reactions ... reminds me of Gangstagrass!  Lovin' it ...{#Yes}
Sampled tunes like this are hit or miss.  This one is hit.

Neat

might get more young people exposed to Neil Young's music
Thanks for trying out things like this. Now please don't ever play this one again. :^)
I can't believe this song got such a meager rating.  I've been listening to it every day, and telling all my friends about it.  Fantastic!!!  There is a clip of him on youtube, and he described how he contacted Neil Young's manager, label, agent, and got nowhere, and then somehow he got Neil himself to hear it, and Neil gave him the go-ahead to record it. Check it out.

Leave Neil's voice out of it and I might have given it a 2. I'm surprised as hell that Neil would even allow somebody to sample his stuff. Pretty classic that he did though. When he does, he does it all the way.
That was fun! Love surprises.
Most interesting. Before I checked who was doing it, for about 10 seconds to me it sounded like Eminem. I said, what's he doing here? But I thought he did a compelling repurpose of one of Neil's quintessential songs. Good deal. I look forward to hearing it again.
Heard this recently on one of the rare occasions that I listen to commercial radio. I don't mind it at all. I also didn't mind the Kid Rock Sweet Home Alabama/Werewolves of London thing from a year or two ago. Might be a good addition to this little set.
LOVE IT!!!
I have the same attitude about getting exposed to new stuff from RP.  However, this is not for my ear at all.  It does follow a bunch of stuff I really approved of tho'.

I'm a long long time Neil Young fan and I loved this. Fresh!
Like it!

Not as bad the second time around.  5 for now.

At first, I was like, whaaaaattttt??  But then, I was like, wow.

I kinda like the idea, although I'm not completely sold on the final product. Still, interesting.

I love this song now.  Very fresh.  Thanks Bill

Yo! More from this! Neil Young love this Cover! Or not? (I think so)
Nice!!

OHHHH SHUUUUUUUUT UPPPPPPP ALREADY
Upon second listen...  not bad.
