This is playing simultaneoulsy on Global and Mellow mix right now 08.22 GMT 15/12/2023. Is that a one off?
The beginning is definitely "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly"

Finding it kind of grating to be honest.  The guitar randomly disappearing for 3 or 4 measures, then coming back, disappearing, coming back, disappearing, etc.  If you take a song that is "grooving", this is diametrically opposite.

Scrolling down everyone loves it... oh well.

And on an overcast day 10 yrs later it played. Lovely and well recorded.

we used a track off his Kaira in our incidental wedding music mix.

Thank you for including this in the breadth of the mix.  I got to see Toumani Diabaté and Bela Fleck paying together in Tucson.  What a pairing of virtuosos.

First I thought "Great, another cover of The Good, The Bad & The Ugly" then it turned into a californian arts&crafts shop. ;)

Wow, I just noticed that snippet of "Sodade"!
I might not have made it through 2020 without Radio Paradise.
Continues to enchant me.

I always love listening to this, it is so beautiful.
For anyone who likes this, check out what he did with Ballake Sissoko - New Ancient Strings. One of the most beautiful albums i've heard. Its a real treat for the ears
This has soothed my troubled inner beast this morning.
Uplifting

Up

Up and away !
That instrument is not only beautiful sounding, it's beautiful in form, materials and construction.

He's offended that some may not rise to his superb musical tastes.
Haven't heard him before.  Beautiful sound. Solid 8.

It's incredible how ignorant some people here are about anything that isn't western rock music. For all you ignorant morons out there, Toumani Diabate is a world renowned kora player. Amazing sound.
If you like Toumani Diabate you should listen to Derek Gripper.  He's been transcribing the melodies from the kora repertoire to classical guitar with good results.  He's performed with both John Williams and Tomani in a number of world music concerts.

WHAT? What is the gist of this snide remark, and where was it said I didn't like it? I think this is fine and lovely music, thanks, joelbb head. And what do mean by 3rd world, exactly? News for you, buddy, it's one world.

I think he was actually agreeing with you, albeit in an obtuse way.

Great gift, thank you!
Would like to hear more, his music is enthralling, maybe In the Heart of the Moon too
I thought the first few sounds more reminiscent of "Apache"  written by Jerry Lordan and done by "The Shadows"... according to Wikipedia
Early '60's was a time of Santo and Johnny, The Ventures, and Booker "T" and M.G.s with chart topping instrumentals... And then Boots Randolph came along with "Yakkity Sax" and now everyone knows it as the Benny Hill Theme... Now we get new instruments, artists and it's a whole new world of music... Human ingenuity is always changing and always human... Kinda nice to know

Pretty and soothing—more koras, please!

If yer teller's reliable, yer can't be banking at Barclays.
Good music to listen to on an overcast day. {#Music}
I think in a former life I lived in a country where the kora was widely played, because every time I hear one, it pulls at my soul.
i dig it.
This is really great, I hope everyone dig it at last...
Many other from this artist, like Suriba Kouyate did (RIP), he takes us in emotional rich sounds at lullaby stepping rhythm.
great!
Nice {#Notworthy} Monday Music!

It's great! Please, more of this stuff!

Taj Mahal & Toumani Diabate - Album Kulanjan -  Released 1999

The album was described by New Statesman as "a rousing set of eclectic grooves, calling on ragtime, barrelhouse blues and even rock'n'roll". Kulanjan was named album of the year by Folk Roots magazine, and President Barack Obama recommended the album in a survey for the Borders book chain.

Mahal had first visited Mali in 1979, and the title of the album comes from the track "Kulanjan" from the 1970 album of kora music, Ancient Strings, by Toumani Diabaté's father Sidiki Diabaté. Mahal and Toumani Diabaté had first met in 1990, and in 1999, Toumani Diabeté selected six virtuoso Malian musicians and took them to record the album with Mahal in Athens, Georgia.

I love great musicians and thought this was a nice follow up to the Hendrix~
I'll have some of that patchouli incense, please...
Very melodic and he displays a true mastery of his instrument.
