Everyone is trying to get to the bar
The name of the bar, the bar is called Heaven
The band in Heaven play my favorite song
Play it once again, play it all night long

Heaven is a place, a place where nothing
Ever happens
Heaven is a place, a place where nothing
Ever happens

There is a party, everyone is there
Everyone will leave at exactly the same time
When the party is over it will start again
It will not be different, it will be exactly the same

Heaven is a place, a place where nothing
Ever happens
Heaven is a place, a place where nothing
Ever happens

When this kiss is over it'll start again
It will not be different, it will be exactly the same
It's hard to imagine that nothing at all
Could be so exciting, could be so much fun

Heaven is a place, a place where nothing
Ever happens
Heaven is a place, a place where nothing
Ever happens

Heaven is a place, a place where nothing
Ever happens

I generally love K D Lang's  performances, but here I don't feel it works with the song. She has removed all the tension and turned it into easy listening, which diminishes what is a truly great song in its original version when performed by David Byrne with Talking Heads.
Gee, I like this cover. As always, her voice is beautiful, and that simple spare guitar playing is just right. Doesn't stop anyone who prefers the original from listening to that, but this sounds like a different song that is also likeable, IMO.
Great voice, as always, but really not among her best covers
Not the the country punk from the 80's but her voice is a 10.

You're missing irony -- k.d. sings it with that and it works that way too.

Check you ears!
She's really good at the 'dreamy' chorus; have a listen to All I Need on her wonderful album Drag

 At least that's my opinion.

100% correct my dutch friend - Merry Chrismas to all of you and peace on earth finally
I agree, angelic... great cover of a great group!

Oy, I thought the somnambulistic approach died with Cowboy Junkies. KD, this one was brilliant, the Heads best.  leave it alone.

I like it tonight (maybe not tomorrow but who knows). The guitar work and orchestration help a lot. I think you're right about Byrne's quirkiness making the original great (even brilliant). His voice is rather good when he sing-talks in a lower register. The TH version worked I think because it was a bit like David Lynch's "Blue Velvet": things seem lovely and fine on the surface but trouble bubbles up eventually and normalcy falls out of kilter.

Beautiful voice singing a beautiful song, so there is not much to like.  I do wish she sustained the lyric "Heaven" a bit more.  It seems too short and abrupt for the title and subject of the song.

Oh, she does later in the song.  Well OK then.
nails it!

Her voice is like butter.

Tasty guitar there.

I'm a huge fan of Talking Heads so I hate to sound like a "Thou Shalt Never Cover My Favorites" kind of person, especially because I like kd too. But this kinda stinks to high heaven. I can't imagine liking this song if I'd never heard the original.

Ditto - some say sleepy, I say dreary.
Leave it to Simply Red please...
Time for sleepybyes {#Sleep}
Does nothing for me except make me realize how much I like the origninal.

But K.D. is still in a very elite group of artists imho.

Actually much better than I anticipated. Great interpretation of a wonderful song.
I love KD and like the arrangement but this version misses the sadness of the original.
I love listening to this beautiful singer
very much love this song - not sure kd is adding much to it, though.    loved the shawn colvin cover of 'this must be the place' earlier.

Everybody in my church loves this song...  amor fati...

KD may be the best female Canadian vocalist alive today.
I love the way the subtle guitar-work backs up the singing.

Hmm but I just bumped it from a 4 to a 6 today. Dammit I hate it love it when a song gets better the more I hear it.

lovely enough to make me want to see her sing it live.
Nice take on this song, I think.

I love the original.
I love this take by K.D., only differently.

This is nice.  Need to play K.D.'s duet of "Cryin'" with Roy Orbison. {#Sunny}
Nice cover - lotta heart n' soul.
How I miss when Bill played the IceHouse version. Best of all!
{#Snooty} Sorry kd... missed that boat
Not great!

;-)
...interesting take...
Very different but not bad.  I've always liked this song.
Great!
