I went to the country to escape the noise and lights
And I laid there in the pine cones all night
I woke in the morning when all the trees were gone
I got this sinking feeling, everything felt wrong
Strip malls and dollar stores and diesel in the air
I slept in a rowboat
And I anchored far from shore
Now I don't hear them chain saws no more
I woke in the morning
When someone pulled the plug
I was stranded in the lake bottom sludge
With all the tires, paint cans and things

Every little critter, feather, fur and fin
Cried to mother nature to come back for them
For every piece of litter, for every little sin
She cried for all of them, feather, fur and fin

I went to an island down the Caribbean way
And I laid there in the sand all day
I turned on a radio and I heard the DJ say
"Baton down the hatches down Santa Elena way"
I swam the ocean reef but the coral all was grey

Every little critter, feather, fur and fin
Cried for mother nature to come back for them
For every piece of litter, for every little sin
She cried for all of them, feather, fur and fin

She saw the eagle's eye weeping in the willow
She prayed to the mantis and she cried into her pillow
For the salmon in the Fraser and the salamander's kin
She cried for all of them, feather, fur and fin

I went to the city when all the trees were gone
And I lay there on her asphalt lawn
She cried out a thousand days of hurricanes and floods
Her face ran with tears, and the streets ran with blood
Fur coats and sushi boats and diesel in the air

Every little critter, feather, fur and fin
Cried for mother nature to come back for them
For every piece of litter, for every little sin
She cried for all of them, feather, fur and fin
Feather, fur and fin, she cried for all of them
She cried for every fin

My inner pedant wishes to point out that it's "batten down the hatches".  Have a great day.

Not necessarily. The DJ might have been suggesting that people throw their batons down their hatches.

Upbeat depression.
Strange feeling.
Such dire with happy sound.
Nature can hit back.  And has
Regarding  the comment by westslope, I think it had a great deal to do with the Big Bar rock slide.
Like the tune though give it a strong 6 -7
salmon in the Fraser always stops me dead in my tracks.

For your information, no native nets in the Fraser and Thompson canyons this year.  Extremely poor returns.   Warming oceans?

Danny has a fantastic stage presence, and is a great songwriter. Definitely worth the ticket if you get a chance.

It's amazing, really, that we can create catchy music with witty, observant lyrics, record it, get it sent from a radio station way over in Cali to our devices worldwide, but we can't stop fucking up the planet with trash and filth. and the comments on this song crack me up every time.
Listened to this song yesterday in a traffic jam. Made the situation much better.
"Crickets" is my main iPhone ringtone. This song sent me looking for my phone when it started.

Oh yes it is, another Cancon tune. A better one too.

I like the song, but I personally find Feather, Fur & Fin to be an overly exclusive club. What about the leaves or the spores?
 westslope wrote:

Yes; he's Canadian.
Each time I hear this song, I have to lower the score.
Guess my tolerance for "cute" is set too  low.

song quickly moves from catchy to annoying.....imo
"Fur coats and sushi boats" is one of most evocative internal rhymes in rock history.
6 to a 7 ......love it today!
Oh Danny boy....great song.

You gotta love apocalyptic songs. Great lyrics, great playing, great song.

Ahhhh the double contra-bass e-flat Latrine-aphones....

It's a cool sound.

Fun!

Sounds a bit like They Might Be Giants, which is not a bad thing.

So, that's what that instrument is: thanks. It's a cool sound.
I have an admiration for a guy who can write "tongue-in-cheek" stuff. Same with that Kentucky Derby song also played here. You just know he's got this little smirk as it's being mixed and prepped for public consumption. Must be cool to do that.
BadAss ........fashure   period.
I like it a lot but it feels a bit like they are holding back - max the horns and really belt it out.  Where is Ronson when you really need him?

Which kind of salmon have feathers and fur? Surely that would be the kind found near 3mile Island.

One of my favourite artists.
Wow. Just remembered being in Waterloo way back when Danny Michel played local bars with another guy named Danny. Seems like another life ago.

Good to hear him on RP. Always thought his career should have blown up much bigger years ago. Don't know why it didn't.
This is getting more and more tiresome given how much it's being played on RP...it's making a decent song worse.

Feather, fur and fin? I guess she doesn't care much for mollusks.
Fortunately I am not always bound by processing the meaning of some songs...being a non-native english speaker...sometimes I just go for how a tune sounds...this sounded pretty extraordinary...I gave'em 9 :)

You may not dislike this. It has a bass sax solo! That is all.
Sounds like that Shook Twins ditty...

Too much 'crapping' going on.
Good song, me and my little child Frida are listening to this song. Frida likes it and me too. We are living a beautiful moment thanks also to Danny Michel   {#Bananapiano}

Well Sasha2001, I don't doubt for a minute that Mr. Michel likely did consider your plight as well. And, I feel your outrage is surely warranted, but try repeating that three times really fast and then maybe you can understand why Danny took a hard right at the waterfall. Lol!
Way to go Danny boy!
I'm hearing it too, Orodrigues and petesoper. Songs seem to be overlapping. Happened a while ago with the Youngbloods too.
Second "song on top of another song" in just a few minutes, and this time I'm sure I'm not running two players. OK, now this song is playing by itself. OK, ready for another song to be playing on top of this one again. :-)
I'm liking the beat here!
this has great video potential...Where's Pixar?!!

Catchy tune, I have this on one of my CBC Radio 3 playlists

the contrarian in me would point out that hiding from the sounds of logging in your wooden boat a bit hypocritical... or perhaps it was made of fibreglass from the equally evil petroleum industry

There's always the mute button, you could take this opportunity to vacate some doodoo from your person, or you could at least try to find something that you like about the song.  Or you could just grow up and deal with the fact that in many ways RP is like a democracy.  Using the ratings, people vote if they think a song should be played.  Clearly people like this song in general.  You can deal with it or sulk, it's up to you.

No doo doo off my back.

Yeah!I saw this guy at the Sunshine Coast Music Festival in Powell River, BC last year and he was great.  Best little music festival in Canada I reckon too.

Yep, and a righteous cri de coeur for wild places and nature, too. I identify with the lyrics of this one, right enough. It's becoming increasingly difficult to escape to semi-natural wilderness environments, which IMO is essential for people's mental and physical health.

Love the honking bassoon on this one :o)

Killer Tune  {#Chef}

Good Canadian boy! Thanks, Bill. His "White Lightning" is a classic. The chorus:

"I wish it was 1930 at the old Kentucky Derby
And I was riding White Lightning off the bluff
Cuz I need a race horse and some old rusty spurs
Cuz I can't get away from her fast enough ..."

Been there, done that.

awesome
Great to hear another fantastic Canadian artist make the RP cut. If you get a chance to see Danny Michel in concert, do so!
