White lips, pale face
Breathing in snowflakes
Burnt lungs, sour taste
Light's gone, day's end
Struggling to pay rent
Long nights, strange men

And they say
She's in the class a team
Stuck in her daydream
Been this way since 18

But lately her face seems
Slowly sinking, wasting
Crumbling like pastries
And they scream

The worst things in life come free to us
'Cause we're just under the upper hand
And go mad for a couple grams
And she don't want to go outside tonight

And in a pipe she flies to the Motherland
Or sells love to another man
It's too cold outside
For angels to fly
Angels to fly

Ripped gloves, raincoat
Tried to swim and stay afloat
Dry house, wet clothes
Loose change, bank notes
Weary-eyed, dry throat
Call girl, no phone

And they say
She's in the class a team
Stuck in her daydream
Been this way since 18

But lately her face seems
Slowly sinking, wasting
Crumbling like pastries
And they scream

The worst things in life come free to us
'Cause we're just under the upper hand
And go mad for a couple grams
And she don't want to go outside tonight

And in a pipe she flies to the Motherland
Or sells love to another man
It's too cold outside
For angels to fly

An angel will die
Covered in white
Closed eye
And hoping for a better life
This time, we'll fade out tonight
Straight down the line

And they say
She's in the class a team
Stuck in her daydream
Been this way since 18

But lately her face seems
Slowly sinking, wasting
Crumbling like pastries
They scream

The worst things in life come free to us
And we're all under the upper hand
Go mad for a couple grams
And we don't want to go outside tonight

And in a pipe we fly to the Motherland
Or sell love to another man
It's too cold outside
For angels to fly

Angels to fly
Fly, fly
For angels to fly
To fly, to fly
Angels to die

The definition of trash.

I'm sorry that you have such low self-esteem about yourself. Maybe a classier wardrobe might help?
Because of Radio Paradise, I was unfamiliar with Ed's music. Certainly knew who he was and was very aware of his commercial success but I don't listen to 'regular' radio.

Honest to God, this might be the first song I've listened to all the way through.

It's......fine.
The definition of trash.
I’m excited that Ed Sheeran’s got some RP airtime. He’s a talented musician, not a teenybopper. Thanks for the listen👍🏻
RP is well rounded
I’ve never heard Ed Sheehan here and I never want to hear him again, oh RP why are you playing him, he is so over exposed.  It’s always good to hear artists that don’t get main stream play eg Roo Panes.
Yikes!  DON'T BLINK!!  The  slideshow with this song should scare the crap out of anyone who's seen the Dr. Who episode Blink, from 2007.  (A very "non-Dr. Who-ish" episode that could appeal to non fans.)

Oh, I see that the RP taste mob has descended to declare this track unfit for consumption.  I know that many of you would rather get another round of throat singing but dear lord, its a catchy pop confection with a hint of dark reflection.  Lighten up guys...its a song, not a manifesto ffs....
Come back James Blunt, all is ... oh hang on....

(PSD for me)
What the HELL is Sheeran doing on RP. Bieber next.
Must be doing something right. Maybe it’s the Boris Johnson hair style
A day in a life in West Yorkshire. She'll die, there, where it's cold, eating pastries at 18, slowly sinking [through the pavement?]; long nights; thousand points of light; read my lips.

Angels.

I'm Ed.
awful
I do not understand why there's such hype about this guy.. on every tube station everywhere worldwide one can hear better...
Yep he’s that Hood
at least one place were people a re not astonished about his 'talent'
This is like Coldplay's "Yellow" - it should have been the only song we ever heard.

Painting by numbers all the way to the bank in a post-Cowell pop landscape.

I can't bear the way he creates his rhymes (or not, often).  But he's worth millions, so ...
But, but, but everybody says he's such a great artist.  And he wins big time awards.  And he's on stage with lots of famous people.  And he makes videos of himself.

So this all means his music is fantastic!  C'mon,  don't ya want to jump on the band wagon?
Garbage.

Not terrible, but following Cat Stevens' "Into White", the difference in talent was pretty clear.

I can't stand that whole album of Cat Stevens'. Mind you, this isn't my favourite of Ed Sheeran's, but I'll take him over Cat Stevens any day.
Meh.  Sappy with the usual, "I'm out of breath" singing.  Sigh.

Gorgeous tune.

The pretentious RP listeners can wait for it to finish or click ahead for something more to their supposed liking.
One of the worst songs ever released. Please never play this again.
One of the contestants in "The Voice Of Holland" (YES, the dutch invented this "brilliant" show) sang this. Since then it has become a huge hit in the Netherlands which you hear a gazillion times on mainstream radio every day.
So to me it's really overplayed. Never loved it, never hated it...

Hate the way the lyrics rhyme, it's so predictable. He is just trying too hard, so Ed.. F$%k off

Well it seems this song is, in my view, being heavily underrated here.  Why is it so many people fail to see the agonising beauty of the darker side of life?  This song is gorgeous.

One small proviso - when you find yourself in front of a class of 30 14 year olds who all start singing along with the smooth sweet melody you do begin to wonder how many of them know what they are singing as they chant in unison that they would go mad for a couple of grams.
boooorrrrning....
not a great string of tunes here....
A very outdated Paul McCartney - The World Tonight
Peter Murphy - All Night Long
Blaudzun - Flame On My Heart....

This...

uhhhh.....

Cheering though as I hear Jimmy's guitar coming in..........

too much helpless vocals in the row...

In my opinion, the only people who should be allowed to sing about angels are bad ass mofos with legit tortured stories to tell. This guy couldn't kick his own ass!

Well, we all have different opinions about such matters.  Do "bad ass mofos" really talk or sing about angels very much?  It seems like doing so would undermine their bad-assedness.   I do not especially care for this song, but the mentioning of angels in the lyrics is not a chief reason.

That's an awkward thing to do, physically, unless you're referring to his donkey in which case said quadruped would be quite pleased to do without the kicking, I'm sure. The song itself is just tedious, generic, the sort of one-kid-and-his-guitar act you can hear in any music pub in the land. He can sing and play in tune, and maybe his lyrics are heartfelt, but I reached for the blessed relief of the mute button before I could sink into the arms of Morpheus {#Sleep}

Sadly I couldn't agree more. Nothing happening here - move along. Quickly.

I've had this song in my head for the past few months. It's wonderfully melancholy backed up by a heartbreaking video.

We all thank you for being the connoisseur to declare it 'not good enough' for the rest of us

Because except for the better quality of lyrics that you noted — it is very pop- py.

Was this a live intro from Bill!?  Where's the studio cam!
Not what I expected to hear, after reading the title.
Like it!
A little too pop sounding for me. Reminds me of a group like Plain White Ts
