Help! I need somebody
Help! Not just anybody
Help! You know I need someone
Help!

(When) When I was younger (When I was young) so much younger than today
(I never need) I never needed anybody's help in any way
(Now) But now these days are gone (These days are gone) and I'm not so self assured
(And now I find) Now I find I've changed my mind, I've opened up the doors

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you please, please help me?

(Now) And now my life has changed (My life has changed) in oh so many ways
(My independence) My independence seems to vanish in the haze
(But) But ev'ry now (Every now and then) and then I feel so insecure
(I know that I) I know that I just need you like I've never done before

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you please, please help me?

When I was younger, so much younger than today
I never needed anybody's help in any way
(Now) But now these days are gone (These days are gone) and I'm not so self assured
(And now I find) Now I find I've changed my mind, I've opened up the doors

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you please, please help me?

Help me, help me

Love this song!! There will never be another Beatles

Although it would be fantastic if there were

I wonder how many of today's bands will be as popular as they were 60 years ago - of course presuming they're still going after 59 years :)

Shakes head :)
forever beautiful.

Can I have this piece of paper, please? ;-)
That is a lot of music in just 2:15!
GODLIKE!!!
Funny, since watching the new Beatles documentary, "Get Back", I feel like I'm just discovering this amazing band for the first time. I'm 55 and always took them for granted, they were always just there.
The song on the radio in the ophthalmologist's (I think I spelled that right) office  the day I tried on my first ever eyeglasses. The song on the radio two months later when I was diagnosed with pneumonia and bound for the hospital. It's phenomenal how many Beatles tunes are associated with milestones of lives.
Foreve
GREAT!!!!!  ICONIC!!!!
Tina Turner's version of this song is superb. She really does sound like she wants help, while John's version (great though it is) is all bouncy and bubbly.
One of those definitive songs from history that just earns the “Godlike” rating.
I clicked on this to rate it and stopped short.  Me.  Rating the Beatles.  Uh-Uh.  I'm not worthy.  I know they're just men.  I had favorites before them and after.  But for now, this is a hard stop.
I'm the youngest of 4 sisters and my Beatle is Ringo.
9 years old & I had the 45.  I would keep the little arm up that holds it on the spindle so the song played over & over & over.
I don't know what I had for breakfast today, but I still knew every word to this song.

The Beatles debut album Please Please Me was released on March 22, 1963...  the debut album turns 50 today...  there is not a single song from the debut album that plays on RP!  HELP!

In 2012, Please Please Me was voted 39th on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time". It was ranked first among the Beatles' early albums, and sixth of all of the Beatles' albums, with Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Revolver, Rubber Soul, The Beatles (The White Album) and Abbey Road ranked higher.

Rolling Stone also placed two songs from the album on its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time: No. 139, "I Saw Her Standing There", and No. 184, "Please Please Me". According to Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic, "Decades after its release, the album still sounds fresh", the covers are "impressive" and the originals "astonishing".

I remember the first time I heard Light My Fire. I was 13 and I screamed. No song has hit me like that since. Your post (and perhaps one from someone else that I can't find) has led me to understand that the Beatles had that kind of impact on many in 1963/4. Thanks to your posts I much better understand and even more enjoy the Beatles! So, you see, some of these RP comments can really leave a legacy!
That's so great to hear! :D

Gotta disagree with both of you. Help! was the first Beatles album I ever listened to, during high school in 1991. It absolutely blew me away, esp. the opening track - I listened to it ad nauseum for the next 3 days.

You got it, CB. Sgt Pepper hit me front and center, but I never could figure out the stature accorded the earliest Beatles songs. I think you've said it best.....you just had to be there.

Yes, I remember it well. My mother took me to the movie, which my father never would have done. Of course, mom also labeled the whole Beatles thing, and rock in general, to be a "passing fad." Yeah, mom, a passing, 50-plus-years fad!

not a big pop beatles fan, but this song is decent, the list bass line is simple but very nice
No matter how you slice it and dice it, one of the all time great tunes.
was gonna give this a 9...cause hey, I can't just give every Beatles song a 10 can I?....But The honesty factor in Lennon's lyrics and how this song writing attitude would affect later music bumps it to "godlike" ....maybe I can give one of Paul's songs a "9" someday.
Hey didn't Julian Lennon's dad play with these guys?

And a very cool observation as well, Shimmer!
