Yes, I think that sample is from somewhere MUCH earlier. It evoked a memory from early childhood - watching a movie on monochrome TV about WWII ship convoys bringing supplies to the UK. The German U-boats would pick them off.  I guess it's from the 1950's, but I have no idea of the title.

I just can't stand the DaftPunk-style fake snare with the automated quantized groove that never changes and makes the song difficult to endure for 4 minutes without becoming a true annoyance. Very strange pick in RP's list...

This is why I listen to Bill and RP.  The unexpected that fits so nicely with the flow of the music.

Pop - yes but it is one of those oddly pop songs.  I took to this song the first time I heard it.

This is from the Wiki about the lyrics

 He says "When I wrote it, I was trying to write a pop song that had more than one perspective. Although it’s written in the first person the character behind that viewpoint isn’t necessarily what the casual listener would expect".

This was such a pop-radio staple back in the day...Bill, I gotta say, I'm pretty impressed that you're playing it here....brings back a lot of memories.  Nothin' wrong with playing a pop song on RP, nothing, indeed.
