Oh? Yeaaah...no.

One of the things I love about this station is Bill cover version fascination. I don’t always like them but I’m always interested to hear them.

Why? {#Stupid}
The original is deep in my blood. Still, I was interested to hear how they would handle the mid-song guitar freak-out....

...and the answer is....

they didn't.

Now I like this even less, since I couldn't give them any creativity points.{#Rolleyes}

NEEDS MORE COWBELL!

Less Cowbell...

A cover should at least provide a new interpretation of the original. This piece certainly does that. Unfortunately, that seem to have been the sole intent of the artists. I do not find any lift in this rendition, it falls flat. Meh.
Nice.  Never a big fan of the original, I'll admit, and so am more open to a cover version than I usually am, but I like this.

We may need to resurrect the puke-guy emoticon.
I always loved BOC's original—a propulsive, driving rocker. This lovely rendition demonstrates the strength of the song. Even without BOC's devastating arrangement, the song stands up on its own.
I dig this tune.

I knew that I knew this song but I simply could not place it. In the end to get some piece of mind I had to log onto the web site to find out.

I was also going to comment on how much I liked this cover but I noticed that Elphmorgan has already articulated my views exactly.

If you're going to do a cover of a record then you have to do something new or different with it or there is no point. This certainly is different.
I quite like this.

I love the original.

Covers are so much better when they don't simply copy the original (for no apparent reason other than cashing in).  This one works for me!

I take it differently...If you were really depressed, this might just lull you into suiciding by pills and drink....

I do like it though. Never thought of it being redone as a "lullaby."

I think it could use some cowbell...

Yes.  Not a bad cover at all.  I guess some people don't like their precious, Top 40, "classic rock" tunes to be dabbled with by other musicians.
Like it too!

Me, too!
I like it, Bill!

If the only thing this version does is make you appreciate the original, that's ok by me. :^)
might not be quite sucko barfo if it wasnt a cover, but since it is

What?  Wimps can't suicide?  What kind of virilist are you?
Oh please why did they butcher this awesome song.....this is NOT a country lullabye

UGH. Save me. Maybe if I had never heard the original this wouldn't be so bad. Too late.

Painful.

Bill and RP are keen on strange covers, and I'm happy about that!  IMHO, a band should only do a cover of a familiar song if they can add something new to the interpretation and I think Bobtown succeeds admirably with banjo and alt-bluegrass feel.  Reminiscent of Tori Amos's "Feels Like Teen Spirit" and will probably get equally divergent opinions.
'smells' like teen spirit

and the amos version....smells   .  despite the 'clever' downtempo treatment of a thrasher

Somewhere Will Farrell is weeping...
Happiness is a 0.3 drop based on my rating of 2!
I'm afraid even more cowbell won't help this.

Banjo, huh? I think it was Steve Martin that did a bit about how now matter what the message if you deliver it while playing banjo everyone will be happy.....not sure it applies here.

Sounds like a 45 played at 33.
Yuck.... Needs more cowbell....
Hmmmm...  I don't know bout this rendition.  I just never associated this song with the banjo?  But...

Blue Oyster Cult.
More new stuff on a Thursday! Wow! More, Bill, more! Lovely song, BTW. Evidence that a well-written song can be adapted to a multitude of arrangements.
I like it.  It's different, but yet it respects the mood of the original.

Prefer the original.
All right, I'll be first: more cowbell.
More Cowbell!
oh no....
Had to shake my head a bit to realize what I was hearing.
Pick it up a bit.
Dig the interpretation, but I also appreciate the original even more!!
Oh hell no.
HA . I named that tune in 6 notes.
