In spite of all the disparaging comments for a song I kinda like, one has to admit that it has inspired some very creative posts. .

Mono no aware (物の哀れ), literally "the pathos of things", and also translated as "an empathy toward things", or "a sensitivity to ephemera", is a Japaneseterm for the awareness of impermanence (無常 mujō), or transience of things, and both a transient gentle sadness (or wistfulness) at their passing as well as a longer, deeper gentle sadness about this state being the reality of life.

Interesting. I recently read a Sci Fi book about an OS that becomes self-aware. The name was Monono Aware. I was unaware of the meaning. Fitting.

I had this rated at a six and raised it to seven. It's quite beautiful.

I wouldn't know how to explain it though...

How nice of you, from 2 to 6. Your majesty, what song deserves the rating of  7, 8 or god forbid - 9 or 10? Based on your peculiar, intellectual musical taste?

 What's a record?

I don't know.  Me thinks Tim Leary and Augustus Owsley would approve. But I agree, a bit too cerebral.

Would make a moving soundtrack for certain photo/video presentations.

I want to like it, but I just can't
Boring and sad. A 3 being generous.

Indeed.
I think I heard this song as background  music on a soap opera. General Hospital? Ugh...Aunt Jessie just died.

It starts OK, but... oy, it grinds on, like an inferior Pachelbel Canon...

Soaring elevator music.
Sheesh that was awful.  I think I'll go back to bed and read about the Irish Famine now.
Beautiful! Enjoy it every time it comes on! {#Hearteyes}
This conjures up images of a dead Orca
Can't help but thinking of the Spinal Tap line that "this piece is call 'Lick My Love Pump'" whenever I hear this.

Simply beautiful!
Japanese post-rock band on RP. I love this band, and was pleasantly surprised to hear it. {#Smile}
Every time I hear this it goes up a notch. Good stuff.
Clearly a large proportion of the listener populace is either over caffeinated or under medicated, because this fits perfectly well with the overarching tone of RP. Some raucous music, some mid-tempo songs, and the occasional sonically-contemplative piece.

Similar in pacing to A Winged Victory for the Sullen. Love it!
And suddenly, what I rated "2" a few months ago sounds beautiful to me and gets a "6" :)
I wouldn't know how to explain it though...
Am I the only one to hear Sinaed O'Conner's Fire on Babylon in the (admittedly sparse) melody?
Very nice!
Post-Rock!!
Better off going to an Irish funeral.Much simpler, just get pissed.

First time I have muted RP.Very depresing tune.
Holy boredom Batman!
this is where it gets too minimalist for my taste...

Simple music, but those dissing it, please remember where it comes from. People of other and very different cultures, and with tragic histories, do not have to measure up to your western expectations.

Mono, a group from Japan which does not have a "trajic" history. It had a few furchtbar moments.
Beautiful. Filled with emotion.
Despite all the other bashing this song provided the perfect backdrop to tonight's sunset. I know it was coincidence but it was perfect timing.
Should be called NOMO instead, as in I don't want to listen to this No Mo.

I agree...can't wait to see Tokyo in a few days...what a trip, on the way to the Philippines...to find true love?  Who knows, that's the mystery and beauty of the gift of life we're given, one day at a time.
I think this is beautiful.
Depending on my mood, this is either lovely or boring and trite. Why is that?
So I can't even rate it. Strange...
Some may have said this before....but I hear 'Like A Hurricane' in this.

I would humbly say that is sounds remarkably like Michael Nymans 'Gattaca' soundtrack. Produced in 1997 and I would say heavily influenced this young band nearly 12 years later.

Sounds like a 70's Return To Forever album title.
Liking the relaxing vibe in any event.

This song goes perfectly with the one before it -- I think just hearing this one it's own doesn't paint the grand, sweeping and sublime picture that this album is.

I've said it many many times -- if I get to pick what music I die to, it'll be a Mono piece.
{#Sleep}
It's not bedtime yet. At least here.

good stuff just not right now
"Silent" and "Sleeping" are adequate descriptions. Yawn. PSD!!
I'd rather be a hammer than a nail...
Feels like the "Inception" soundtrack.
mmmmm.... very nice...
Serene.
Thought this was the start of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" for the first little bit. Very cool, Bill, to play this right after another PF tune.

If I was stoned out of my mind, this song would be one of the most in incredible things I've ever heard, but since I've given all that up for now, it's a kettle less mind blowing and just Starts to flirt with tedious. Never quite gets there, but comes close enough to smack it on the ass.

So nice to hear Mono on RP!
egregious tune. zoning out so hard
Compelling.
