Great track

For some reason I am noticing a lot of British artists over the last couple days.  Theme?

Mr. Smartass, that's easy. Muse shamelessly "borrow" motifs and riffs of so many artists out there, while presenting their music as genuine and bombastic.
From blatant copy of Enjoy the Silence of Depeche Mode, Queen's signature vocals and guitars, to so many other artists out there, Abba, Ultravox, Velvet Revolver and even classical music.

This one too was "inspired" by Mike Oldfield. Just take a look at their Muse Wiki page and how many "bears a resemblance to" phrase is being used while describing their songs. The guys seem even proud of that. It's so rare to find a genuine Muse piece without thinking of other artists that you're reminded of. So yeah, they are pretentious posers and so over the top with their lyrics.

You've answered a completely different question (possibly "how is this music derivative?") but nothing you've written addresses the issue of pretentiousness.

And this song is a perfect fit for the introduction at World War Z movie... very appropriate to the images shown there. Muse never stops surprising me with their versatility!

2:40 pmMuse
The 2nd Law: Isolated System

And it was Fantastic!
I keep trying to play my own stuff...

i suppose it's not that different from the political threads in the forum.

Yep, that struck me as well. Quite restrained for Muse. The audio samples in the piece, which I've only heard properly now that I'm using 'phones, are intriguing. Perhaps the boys are trying to say that we're living in entropic times, with order trending to disorder, and society moving towards a 'heat death'? Or perhaps I'm reading too much into it, and should chill out and groove, and not think about the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics.
Is this a tune for the future "Exorcist" re-make movie?

Well said. I suppose the highest compliment that can be given a producer is the odd listener's comment of some element sounding wrong or mistaken. In that moment (even though it is not praise) all of the editing, decisions, research, argument, nuance, instinct and technology that goes into the finished recording disappears into suspension of disbelief for that listener. It becomes a whole event, a slice of life that they have experienced. From Ray LaMontagne's percussive breathing to John McCrea's late-note-verging-on-syncopation, little that survives to recording is done without craft or art employed.

Enough with the thermodynamics already.  My entropy increases greatly every time I hear this repetitive, loopy thing.
I like the way the more lyrical folk speak of entropy, and it's various twists; like China Woman and Bruce Cockburn.

Muse lyrics not withstanding, life on Earth does not violate the 2nd Law.  In a closed system the total entropy (usually) increases with time.  There is nothing in the 2nd Law that precludes some parts of a system from having their entropy decreased.  We do it every second of our lives.  But, loosely speaking, the process of reducing the entropy in one thing (say by metabolism) will necessarily increase the entropy of something else (waste body heat).

I went to the Muse concert in Vancouver recently and to be quite honest, I am not sure what all the fuss is about this group. The set list/pacing was disappointing as the quieter songs sucked the energy out of the crowd. The concert lacked flow (not enough up tempo songs IMO). The stage and lighting was decent. Short concert as well 1-1/2 hours start to finsh. Thankfully the tickets were free.
In Europe and America there's a growing feeling of hysteria.   I like it by the way.
