Smiling faces sometimes pretend to be your friend
Smiling faces show no traces of the evil that lurks within (Can you dig it?)
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes, they don't tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces tell lies and I got proof

Let me tell ya
The truth is in the eyes, but the eyes don't lie
Amen
Remember a smile is just a frown turned upside-down
My friend, so hear me when I'm sayin'
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes, they don't tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces tell lies and I got proof

Beware
Beware of the handshake that hides the snake
Can you dig it, can you dig it?
I'm telling you
Beware
Beware of a pat on the back
It just might hold you back
Jealousy (jealousy)
Misery (misery)
Envy (envy)
I tell you, you can't see behind
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes, they don't tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces tell lies and I got proof

Your enemy won't do you no harm
'Cause you know where he's coming from
Don't let the handshake and the smile fool ya
Take my advice, I'm only trying to school ya

Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes, they don't tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces tell lies and I got proof
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes...

Well, it ain't the best of 70's Soul but I'm happy to hear RP go in this direction.

Now, how 'bout some Aretha or JB?  Grant Green, Lou Donaldson, Jimmie or Lonnie Smith, I'll take either one.... getting out of Soul and more into jass/funk I know but come on, just a nice groove to get our blood filled with a little sumpin' sumpin'.

Always loved this song - great lyrics - very true.

Elvis Costello used to roll this into a live medley with his King Horse from Get Happy.

Beware of the handshake that hides a snake.  Beware of the pat on the back, it might just hold you back.

What a great name for a group. Undisputed Truth. 'Nuff said.
Not a bad act, but they usually just didn't nail the songs like other Motown acts, most noteably the Temptations version of Papa was a Rolling Stone has far more power than that of the Undisputed Truth, maybe a bit too much psychedelic (too little soul) in their psychedelic soul (for me at least).
Truthfully....I can dig it .     ...   Learned these lessons hard...
Seriously?  Well... I guess I can dig it.
