Je n'ai pas peur de la route
Faudrait voir, faut qu'on y goûte
Des méandres au creux des reins
Et tout ira bien là
Le vent nous portera

Ton message à la Grande Ourse
Et la trajectoire de la course
Un instantané de velours
Même s'il ne sert à rien va
Le vent l'emportera
Tout disparaîtra mais
Le vent nous portera

La caresse et la mitraille
Et cette plaie qui nous tiraille
Le palais des autres jours
D'hier et demain
Le vent les portera

Génétique en bandoulière
Des chromosomes dans l'atmosphère
Des taxis pour les galaxies
Et mon tapis volant dis ?
Le vent l'emportera
Tout disparaîtra mais
Le vent nous portera

Ce parfum de nos années mortes
Ce qui peut frapper à ta porte
Infinité de destins
On en pose un et qu'est-ce qu'on en retient?
Le vent l'emportera

Pendant que la marée monte
Et que chacun refait ses comptes
J'emmène au creux de mon ombre
Des poussières de toi
Le vent les portera
Tout disparaîtra mais
Le vent nous porter

[translation]

Unafraid of where the road may take me
We'll see, we'll have to savor
Twists and turns, the hollow of your back
It will be all right
The wind will take them

Your transmission to the Big Dipper
And the course of the race
An instant of soft velvet
Even if it's useless
The wind will take them
Everything passes but
The wind will carry us

Gentle kisses and machine gun bullets
And the wounds which torment us
The castles of old days
Of yesterday and today
The wind will take them

Genetics in backpacks
Chromosomes in the atmosphere
Taxis to the galaxies
And what about my magic carpet?
The wind will take it
Everything passes but
The wind will take it

The scent of lost years
Things that can come knocking
Infinite destinies
We pick one and what do we keep?
The wind will take it

While the tide rises
And each one totals up the scores
I take deep in my soul
Your remains and ashes
The wind will take them
Everything fades but
The wind will take us

Borders France and they speak it there.
The opening reminds me of Jeff Buckley’s “Last Goodbye.”
This woman.... Her voice and, other talents.... Saw only one video... Don't even recall what song but, it was like, a "real life skit" sort of thing... Where she sang and, stepped/danced to the others in video... Done outdoors....Seems to be a really positive, upbeat type of woman! The video was something that "puts a reality" on the artist! So cool! What a thrill it would be to actually meet her! Even seeing a show would be pretty damn great! 🥰
love this…

I am giving 10 to this cover, because of perfect emotional performance deeply relating with this songs atmosphere and dealing with loss and despair lyrics . Original has 9 from me.

What a beautiful rendition of this Noir Desir song - straight 8 from me
My understanding is the original version of this song was done by someone with some personal issues or problems or something. Playing this a lot now may have be a result?  The driveing toe -tapping  pluckiness of that version still has its allure to me, but this somber, haunting version does seem to fit the words now that I've seen the translation.
Wow what a great song!

I actually thought the guitar riff was Reckoner by Radiohead at first. The guitar generally has a Radiohead vibe… then it ramps up to include some brass, not to mention her voice is amazing. Really loving this
Jelani va ta faire enculer! Et ouais je me suis habitez en Suisse pendant cinque an.

I would like Radio Paradise to play the Noir Desir version of this song. It has more energy.

I cannot find it today but many years ago before Noir Desir, I heard a Russian protest song possibly by Vladimir Vysotsky that sounded very similar. Maybe Bertrand Cantat borrowed parts of it. I will have to find and run some music plagiarism software on it.

Pick a word:  Soothing, moving,  much, much, much more than amusing.  let's say  when listening to this beauty, "there's Nothing I'd rather be doing".

Straight to the point. My favourite version of this song.

Maybe just different. Imagine that.

It tells us (well, me anyway) that they CAN both be right seeing as it's 100% subjective.
Interesting take.
Upon reading thru comments, seems about 50/50 on Sophie's version vs the original. So, I did as suggested, and went to YT music, and punched in the original band. Their version is ok. But, sorry for dissention but, Sophie put one helluva effort into her version, and it comes out far more soulful and heartfelt. IMO, her version stands far larger than the original.

Wow! Not that you took the words out of my mouth but, you stated that, at least as eloquently as I would have! Spot on, with your description!

Haters, spare us your bullshit, hit PSD and move on.
It's pleasant. I still prefer the original.
This is a nice cover, but in my mind the original is MUCH better.

That moment when you realize the lyrics of this song could be a poetic description of The End of the World.

I believe the translation you're commenting on is a word-for-word literal translation, lacking any of the poetry or nuance of the original text. I could be wrong, my French isn't good enough to give a more poetic translation.
Noir desir please
Should watch the french motion picture using this song at the end : Ma vie de Courgette
Heartbreaking !
This song is a monument. Should also take a look at the official video clip by Noir Désir and its explanation  (the different phases of life)
Bravo Switzerland!
Beautiful song and great interpretation  - in French -  from a German speaking lady.
Evocative, sensual, touching, with a caressing aromatic style.. merci...
Beatiful french song...
? "The wind will carry the day" ?
I don't think this is in the lyric...

Trenchant, not dumb at all.  I'm with Fred 100% on this one.  Very glad to hear this ethereal cover that takes this song back.
Now, this is a cover!  She brings her own style, her own magic to the song.  It doesn't diminish the original, but gives it a whole other dimension.  I never understand when professional musicians cover to sound like the original, but Sophie certainly doesn't do that!

Just learned that Sophie recently did a cover of Steven Wilson's Song of I. How cool is that?
At first I thought I was so smart.. recognizing so many French words... then I realized it was the same song🙄
heard this first on FIP radio and now here !
Thanks for playing french music on RP

A good cover, though I much prefer the original by Noir Desir. Still, the 7 1/2 average score sounds about right.
I like this cover.  Just cranked it up.

Would also bet that the Berlin music scene is very cool.

I'm maybe not as angry as you bro, but I'm with you - this is somehow a completely unneccesary song/cover. So boring and pretentious and meh.
I like this one better than the original.

Melancholic, lack lustre, .........running out of tepid adjectives here..........My, how my viewpoint has changed in 3 years.

Surely you aren't that narrow.

Here are 3 totally different French artists that can be heard on RP

Francis Cabrel
Jean Michel Jarre
Claude Debussy

There are more. Just do not have the time to look them up.

Oh no ! What happened to the original ? This version is completely changing the nature of the song... it's horrible. Provides the wrong mood / atmosphere...

After several months this went from an 8, which is where the original still sits, to a 9, and now it's just a solid and rare 10.  Spectacular, nuanced, unleashed and restrained.  It's one of the very, very few songs I could hear forever.

I put it to a cut of Fritz Lang's Metropolis here:
https://vimeo.com/135148281
How many versions of this song are there? They're all insipid after a handful of listens. Pretty Soon Deficient.

Singing so vapid, I first thought it was the sound of a small child whining, or more precisely sniveling (whining with the discharge of nasal mucous) outside my door. Don't give up yer' day job, uh  ....Sophie!
