With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound
He pulls the spitting high tension wires down

Helpless people on a subway train
Scream bug-eyed as he looks in on them

He picks up a bus and he throws it back down
As he wades through the buildings toward the center of town

Oh no, they say he's got to go go go Godzilla
Oh no, there goes Tokyo go go Godzilla

History shows again and again
How nature points up the folly of men

Settle down, Beavis.
God I love this song. It is the epitome of late 1970s cheese....the live versions floating around since 1977 are great, as are all the covers. MOAR.

Good even without cowbell!

This song will ALWAYS bring up memories of that neighbor!

Too Funny!

I always thought Motley Crue were the first band to make use of the umlaut!

This tune has made me laugh since it came out. So simply descriptive and rocking. Why wouldn't one write a song about Godzilla?
There was a version of this made in Alaska by someone that was called "Wasilla" back in about 2000.  Local radio used to play it every day at 4:20.
Oh No..GODZIRRA!
A rocker's salute is due!

May I say this is the first time I hear a Cult's song that isn't, you know, the one with the reaper banging a cowbell to scare the seasons off?

Thanks RP <3

My wife wrote spoof lyrics to this tune, entitled "Slobzilla" about my teenage stepdaughter. We sent it to Spike O'Neil, he of spoof-song fame and lead singer of Spike & the Impalers. He said he laughed at the funny lyrics and didn't offer to produce it, of course.
Oh well, I still like the track! 6 for the song + 1 for the great BillG segue from "Big in Japan" and +1 for my silly anecdote = solid 80s 8!

Got a kick out of the playlist...  Same "Big in Japan" preceded this track today.  HaHa!

Sadly, I don't think BOC raked in a ton of cash...
BOC a guilty pleasure!!!!
The local radio in Anchorage used to play a parody of this song about Wasilla like every day at 4:20.  Google "wasilla song godzilla".  Anyhow, that's what I hear when this song is played.

Saw these guys in knoxville, TN back in the 70s.  The drummer did a little brief solo and strobes flashing all around him with a big Godzilla head on.  It was hilarious.

"Big in Japan" and then this? Bravo.
The current 'Godzilla' is Kim Jong Un for Tokyo    {#Wave}Hi Slope !
At over 200% to annual GDP, the public debt of Japan is quite Godzilla like!

There is a good reason to have cold sweats at night.

Hahahaha!
Great segue from Alphaville's "Big in Japan"!
Nice one Bill!
(edit) I see I'm late to the party on this one here. :-/

Muahahahaha, from Alphaville - Big in Japan , to Blue Öyster Cult - Godzilla. So funny.
the stereo bouncing God-zilla doesn't really work when you have one ear not hearing squat.
but for the (not really very important) lack of los lobos' kiko and the lavender Moon, or leokottke and margo timmons with Pepe Stop, this has been another voluptuously long and truly inspired set both thematically, lyrically, emotionally and melodically. natalie merchant's apocalypse #205 followed by the staple singers! bufo godzilla! hah! brilliant! these voices! these synapses! thank you and a happy new year to Thee Bill!

Bad then, band now.
Remember seeing BOC at Southampton Gaumont in the 80s, as their previous tour had caused a bit of a stir over the use of lasers, they were banned from using them on the tour i saw. So . . .
they brought fireworks instead.
That was much safer of course.
Still remember the searing heat coming off them 'candles'.
Wonder what it was like for them on stage . . .

Nice, following Alphaville's "Big in Japan" with this one!

Still rocking after all these years.  If listeners would delve into some of their non radio air play songs, they would surprised to find an assortment of quality tunes, I Love the Night, Nosferatu,  and Astonomy to mention a few.  Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma my be in their 60's but they are relentless performers and still got the chops to get a crowd fired up.  Kasim Sultan from Todd Rungren's Utopia is currently touring with them.

Would not hurt to hear some Todd here on RP.

They just played Cleveland, Ohio this past week.  Per a friend's report, they kicked butt.
Oh, this is just such a feckin' brilliant segue from Big in Japan :)
If I was hearing for the first time - maybe a 5, giving it 8 since it is a classic during my misspent youth.

Godzilla on the 4 pm movie.

Mid-80s? Damn I saw them at Madison Square Garden in 81, when "Burning for You" was a big hit. Their last major commercial success. Quick downfall.

Saw them at Astroworld Six Flags. Must have been 1979 or 1980. I remember they had a large inflatable Godzilla by the stage spewing fire. Fond memories

Caught them at a rib cook off in Cleveland a few years ago.  Ticket price w/discount was 3 bucks.  It was fantastic.

Ten trillion cowbells probably couldn't improve this - but it's dreadfully entertaining in its shark-jumping glory.
Once every year or two is plenty...
Awesome!!!
"Big in Japan" followed by this--well, Godzilla is from Japan, and he's pretty doggone big!

Brilliant sequencing.
Please. BOC was great, and their catalog is extensive and fantastic. But this swan song. Blech.
Painfully annoying... Needs WAY MORE cowbell
How is this only rated 7?  This is classic.......
