Toubab is a Central and West African name for a person of European descent. Used most frequently in the Gambia, Senegal, and Mali, and also in Ivory Coast, the term does not have derogatory connotations by itself, but it is also frequently associated with "wealthy traveler".

A krewe is a social organization that puts on a parade or ball for the Carnival season. The term is best known for its association with Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans, but is also used in other Carnival celebrations around the Gulf of Mexico, such as the Gasparilla Pirate Festival in Tampa, Florida and Springtime Tallahassee, as well as in La Crosse, Wisconsin and at the Saint Paul Winter Carnival.

I get triggered by the words "cultural appropriation", esp. in the world of art/music.  If an artist likes something, they can't use it, lest someone's feelings get hurt?  I'm not talking about plagiarism.  This Toubab Krewe stuff is great, regardless of their birthplace or culture.  "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

I Agree! Very well stated!

Me too.
incredibly fun and inspiring band I found whilst in grad school in North Carolina. Lots of fun on the festival circuit and they have some songs that are so fast and razor sharp that it melt your face off. Check out their first album!

isn't toubab an African word for "white man"?

Perhaps Toubab Krewe should be followed by something from Reggatta de Blanc. Ain't cultural appropriation grand?

This is why I love listening to this station, great music you'd never normally hear.  It's like a box of chocolates, (without the instructions) you never know what you're gonna get! (thanks Forest Gump!).{#Clap}

Sorta like Gene Autrey riding in on a camel. Regardless, very cool.

About as close as you're going to get—it's a pretty good movie:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Good,_the_Bad,_the_Weird

(From imdb.com):
"The story of two outlaws and a bounty hunter in 1940s Manchuria and their rivalry to possess a treasure map while being pursued by the Japanese army and Chinese bandits."

I'll have the Orange Chicken with that.
Backing track for a "Nepali Western" if there were such a beast. All that's missing is a Sitar
This song makes me want to turn water into wine again.
sounds like background music to a kiddie cowboy cartoon ... yawn
First few bars sounded like Gypsy Kings.

Yes, at least in West Central Africa (Ghana, Nigeria, etc).  Cool name for a band of white guys playing African-style music.
Interesting, positively so. Music like this has prompted the conversion of two profoundly stubborn people of disparate generations - currently behind me- to RP. High five, everyone.
isn't toubab an African word for "white man"?
Giddy-up. {#Rolleyes}
what a funny little melody i see comments that it's of Incan origin.  sounds kind of Asian to me
Sounds a lot like Be Bop Deluxe's Japan
What came first? The chicken or Jonathan Richman?
very lovely
Carnavalito para bailar...
Just your average Andean Touareg blues.
More Toubab Krewe please!  These guys play all traditional African instruments.  Great jams!
Very talented group, all of their stuff is very good.
A beautiful classic of Andean folk, in a mediocre version... {#Naughty}
A bouncy little tune.  Very likeable.  A seven on first listen.
Melody is very similar to an old Incan folk song. Excellent treatment with the rolling beat.
Hmm . . . sounds a lot like some Jonathan Richman I was listening to the other day.
{#Bananajumprope}  V Nice - it sounds as if should be on a camel
Love the groove here!
Super talented band with an interesting spin on surfy instrumental rock. Excited about seeing them live soon.
Hmm. Curious, intriguing, and very RP. Could be a grower, as folk say. 6 from the intrigued Nottingham jury.
Started as 7 on the first few notes. May go much higher.
Saharan Bluegrass.
ok, cool sound.
