Met her in old Mexico
She was laughing sad and young
In a smokey room no-one could see

Her favorite poets all agreed
Spanish is a loving tongue
But she never spoke Spanish to me

She was born in Monterey
And all the Christmas songs were sung
The padre knew what she'd grow up to be

Saints and sinners all agree
Spanish is a loving tongue
But she never spoke Spanish to me

Like a lion screamin' in the jungle
She never could in what she couldn't see
She spoke to all the shadows in her bungalow
But she never spoke Spanish to me

She said, "If you're from Texas, son
Then where's your boots and where's your gun?"
I smiled and said, "I got guns, no-one can see"

We laughed at that, we both agreed
Spanish is a loving tongue
But she never spoke Spanish to me

I left her in old Mexico
She was laughing sad and young
In a smokey room and no-one could see

Her favorite poets all agreed
Spanish is a loving tongue
But she never spoke Spanish to me
She never spoke Spanish to me

Yes!
This is the first Christmas song I've heard on RP since I joined.
Having been lucky enough to rub elbows a bit with Joe back in the day and attend many of his live shows around Austin and Houston,  I like pretty much like everything he's ever done. His live shows are legendary. The time he did back-to-back shows Friday and Saturday with The Blasters - OMG! Joe was the Clash's favorite band for a reason.

Nice to hear Joe on RP!  We have many totally awful things here in Texas, but we have some really fine musicians - Joe is a mighty fine one.  I recommend a good listen of all his cohorts in the Flatlanders who all originated in the very very flatlands of Lubbock, where you can almost see tomorrow on the horizon.  And, of course, Buddy Holly gave inspiration to all of them, and continues to.

Good to hear some Joe Ely here! An untapped goldmine, along with several other Texas boys.

And girls, but yeah:
Butch, Jimmie Dale, Guy, Townes, Blaze, Nancy, Cindy Walker (maybe the most prolific of them all!), Uncle Walt, Jerry Jeff, Billy Joe...

Yeah and Trump wants to build a 30 foot wall on the border, so that no Spanish/Latino can enter the divided States of Neo-Feudal Murikka, Inc. ever again!

Good to hear some Joe Ely here! An untapped goldmine, along with several other Texas boys.
Very Nice!
