I listen to you time and time again
While you tell me just what's right
And you tell me a thousand things a day
Then sleep somewhere's else at night
I'm going back to Kansas City

And I love you dear, but just how long
Can I keep singing the same old song
And I love you dear, but just how long
Can I keep singing the same old song
I'm going back to Kansas City

And you call me to come, then I do
And you say you made some mistake
You invite me into your house
Then you say you gotta pay for what you break
I'm going back to Kansas City

And I love you dear, but just how long
Can I keep singing the same old song
And I love you dear, but just how long
Can I keep singing the same old song
I'm going back to Kansas City

Gypsy woman, you know every place I go
Even a thousand miles away from home
You don't care if I'm asleep or I'm awake
This fickle heart just turn to stone
I'm going back to Kansas City

And I love you dear, but just how long
Can I keep singing the same old song
And I love you dear, but just how long
Can I keep singing the same old song
I'm going back to Kansas City

love the train-track percussion! The video gives some insight into studio magic vibes

it's Mumford himself, Jim James and someone else (didn't catch it), per Bill

Almost broke your leg? Is that kind of like being a little bit pregnant?

Not really my cup of tea. Being from KC I would have liked it better if there was actually a KC reference in the lyrics, you could easily swap Carson City or something.
If Bob Dylan had a hand in writing this, it is repetitive, non-musical and totally annoying.
OK, ya had me at the guitar.
Any song is good when Bob Dylan writes it... including this one! Love this compilation....
"HEY - You wouldn't happen to be going to K.C. would ya?"
Loving the pictures along with this one... nice little tour of my town...
Familiar voice, it's Mumford yes?

Edit: Yes.

I'd say it IS The new basement tapes :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Basement_Tapes
Bill- for compilations of this sort, could you please put the actual artist in parentheses?  For a minute there, I thought the name of the band was The New Basement Tapes!  Thanks.

What a wonderful rendition, no doubt Dylan would have agreed, a great presentation of a great song.

Interesting album. What strikes me is that we'll never know how Dylan would have written the music. For instance, this is very much a Marcus Mumford song with lyrics by Dylan. Helluva band, tho'.

Like long nails cracking and breaking on a chalkboard... The chorus over and over and over and over, but not just that, the screaming and barely hitting the notes. I'm sorry people, but i find this nothing short of horrible.

Don't know if I'd go so far as horrible, but it would certainly be on the devil's playlist when he puts me in the Annoying Music For All of Eternity room.
OUCH ! ! ! !

I think it's time to stop singing that same old song.

Thanks Bill, as always.
This song is getting played here almost as much as on mainstream radio. I like it - but enough already!

It just seems odd for someone with a thick British accent to be singing about Kansas City. Still an 8.

It's all Basement Tapes-era lyrics that were never put to music. By nature it's a bit of a hit-and-miss album but the good songs (like this one) are very good.
There's a doc about this album on Showtime right now. Really interesting look at the creation of this album that's well worth the time. So great to see the creative processes of everyone involved and how creatively insecure some really brilliant songwriters can be. Not all brash hubris.

Love this song. Thanks!

What a wonderful rendition, no doubt Dylan would have agreed, a great presentation of a great song.

not bad
