Sky in the trees and birds and the bees
Life on Earth is long
Rivers and lakes and floods and earthquakes
Life on Earth is long

And, no, I might not meet you there
Leaving it beyond repair

Won't you hold me?
So I can see
The man in the mask at the desk with a flask
Sings, "Life on Earth is long"
And the girl in a cage with the moon in her eye
Sings, "Life on Earth is long"

And, no, I might not meet you there
To feel the breeze and breathe the air

But it's in me
Infinitely
Monarchs in flight, dawn's early light
Life on Earth is long
The sun in the west and the one you love best
Life on Earth is long

And, no, I might not meet you there
Spirit blinded by despair

Oh, but the lightning strikes
To illuminate the night

And, no, I might not meet you there
Through galaxies of song and prayer

I'll be lost in time
Growing on a vine
Egyptian spring and love in Beijing
Life on Earth is long
Life on Earth is long

Just a depressing dirge which might even actually push someone over the edge. Should come with a health warning.

I can't tell if she's genuinely saying that life is long, or it is ironic or sarcastic, or some sort of metaphor I'm "not getting".  But my middle aged experience tells me definitively that life on Earth is incredibly short, like the blink of an eye.
Only a young person would have this sentiment.

Don't insult him like that.
For me, this tune is emotive ,suggesting great sadness but also longevity and resolution. I find myself shifting to using "earth" as a metaphore for "self". I then comfortably drift between interpretations to the songs end...love it. Is the song a lullaby ?
sobbing my heart and soul out
Music to slit your wrists to.
I'm not sure what I think of this yet.
c.

edit: the NOLA horns are interesting.

exactly.
She's definitely got something good here...
thanks for pulling another one off this album. I like the vibe she seems to be trying to throw down.

as a bit of a 'shout out' if anyone is interested in social (political) issues, her song 'precious cargo' off this album is an interesting take and is definitely worth a listen.
God, this sounds like a Tom Waits piece.

Awful.

Your state of mind?
I'd love to see them in a small club setting.
Das ist richtig gut!
I find myself inexplicably drawn into this one.  It has excellent tension, and she has a lovely voice.

Awful.
I can see this growing on me if I actively listen, but on first listen just "Ok."
Awesome band name!
