Considering the original album was cut in 1972 you may want to rethink your statement.

Recordings of live peformances of the Band... great albums (2) and a super tribute to some awesome musicians!

I still have the vinyl stored away.

I'd always thought that the feedback was intentional. It seems to appear at about the same point during the refrain. Feedback would almost make sense, given the lyrics.

AFTER he heard about them from George Harrison, who was hangin' round Big Pink during the recording of that seminal LP.

Great great song from a great live Band. Seeing them at the Arie Crown Theater in 1972 was certainly one of the highlights of my concert experiences. But... as almost always happens, when Bill plays the live version I prefer the studio version (this song, for example) and when he plays the studio, I prefer the live (Astronomy Dominie for example). I guess it's a matter of what gets uploaded. Or he and I are orthogonal in that space.

No kidding. Is this live? If it's a studio and they got feed back on the final cut... sheesh. Must've run outta money. Either that or they should have fired the engineer. And the mastering engineer. And the producer. And everyone who heard this between the studio and production line. Now, if it's live. Eh... it happens. Still, it's a good tune. Not my favorite, but pretty good. --edit-- Nevermind. It's live. Either that or they had a lot of engineers and they loved it.

The sound quality of the recording is horrible. The screeches of feedback scattered throughout the song make any other judgements about its value irrelevant. Never, ever play that again without a warning beforehand. OUCH!

This was an original, unique group if there ever was one. Never been a group like them - before or since. Elvis Costello has said as much. 4 singers, 3 songwriters, everyone switched up their instruments and roles in the group frequently, they didn't follow the musical trends of the day. And this song is amazing.

You have it backwards, there are a lot of bands that have watered down and borrowed The Band's sound.
