You know Mary was a woman fine
She was living with a hard guy
Yeah, Mary got beat up
One to many times

She's a Runaway
She's a Runaway

Mary stole some money
And she got herself a gun
Then she shot her man down
Now she's on the run-un

She's a Runaway
She's a Run, Runaway

Well she ain't lookin' back anymore
She said, "Catch me if you can anymore"
Ya know she didn't wanna do it
But he just pushed her to far
Everybody got a breakin' point
And Baby there you are

She's a Runaway
Run, Run, Run, Runaway
She's a Runaway
She's a Run, Runaway

I said "She ain't lookin' back anymore"
She said, "Catch me if you can anymore"
Well, that's the story of Mary and the gun
Ya know, She's a lot tougher now
She's livin' on the run

She's a Runaway
She's a Run, Runaway
Run, Run, Run, Runaway
She's a Run, Runaway

Bill, how about some Del Lords? Judas Kiss?

An excellent choice.  One of my favorite songs.

Amen to that. Judas Kiss is a terrific track.
They sound nothing like this anymore.

Excellent live band back in the day.   All good things come to an end.

Yes indeed. I am a big fan of the old BoDeans, but last year some guys calling themselves "The BoDeans" played at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley and they were AWFUL. The wall of loud noise drove us out of the place. WTF?

I've got Joe Dirt Car on CD and have been listening to it for a long time.  I absolutely love BoDeans.  Jackson Browne has Sammy on backup vocals on "Miles Away," for anyone who cares about trivia.  If you try to base your love or hate of BoDeans on their "Closer To Free" song from "Party of Five," lose that bias.  They have some incredible music - notably, "Naked," "Private Idaho," and, of course, the stuff on "Joe Dirt Car."  Google them, buy their stuff at Amazon.com, and then come back here and say that "Far, Far Away From My Heart" doesn't slice a hole in your soul...

I've loved the BoDeans since I saw them at Mabels at the University of Illinois back in the 80's.  Opened for U2 there as well.  I own every CD and each one brings me back to a great memory in my life.  They never achieved the success they deserved outside the midwest.  They always put on a great show.  Thanks for playing this!

Love Bodeans!
Could this have been the theme tune to Thelma & Louise? Fine story, ho-hum delivery which sounds like it was recorded in some lock-up without any soundproofing.

Sorry, we've just come to the end applause, so plainly this was a live recording.

As of 8/18/11, Sammy Llanas (vocals and guitar) has left the Bodeans. No reason given for his departure. Apparently, the remaining members ofthe band will continue. Stay tuned ...

I love "Going Home" - such a heartbreakingly-beautiful story-song.  I bought "Joe Dirt Car" on a whim, and I love it. BoDeans are so amazing live - Sammy's passionate vocals have served him well. Jackson Browne enlisted him on "Miles Away" and that gravelly, almost snarly vocal adds volumes to the song.

BoDeans have a "recipe" for their music, and it works. When they wander, it still works, in different ways. I am a fan, and my only regret is that I've never seen them perform live.

I've been seeing BoDeans live for nearly 20 years.  They don't make it out to California as much as I would like, but it's always a great show.  In addition to working with Jackson Browne, they are on several tracks on Robbie Robertson's self titled album.

definitely like their other music.

I thought is was Bruce Springsteen with vocals pitch modulated up a step and a half.

Yeah, I heard Springsteen at first too. But the lead voice is a bit too light and high for Bruce these days.

Nice song, but if these guys really do have the same arrangement for most of their songs...well, you can't farm that patch of land forever.

ALWAYS a pleasure listening to these guys. What a shame it's not on iTunes. I was all set to buy the album. Rats.
Check Amazon.com mp3 downloads. They aren't as sexy and current as Itunes, but their back catalog is excellent.
Enjoy the BoDeans, but not the nasally guy on lead vocals. Sorry, don't remember their names. This is about the best song he leads on, otherwise his songs on par with Fran Drescher doing Christmas Classics IMO....
Gotta say, I'm a fan of these guys!

Nice live version of this vintage band. Nice to hear good music in live settings!
This is brilliant stuff! I had to drop what I was doing and go and have a look at the playlist. Sure enough, the BoDeans. I have to get this album!
