At 18 years old my parents asked me why I wasn't looking for a job.  I responded loftily that I was unwilling to "trade my hours for a handful of dimes".  I think that was the first time I ever heard my father swear.

I never loved them, thought they were important enough to listen to a little but probably never sat thru an entire album. I like them a little more these days. It's clear (to me) that the White Stripes owe a lot to the Doors, this album especially. I think.

Pretty sure Jay-Z could have pulled it off if "Five to One" had never been recorded. 

Not the best Doors song by a long shot. It sounds dated tonight, but the album is almost 45 years old. The Doors have been (somewhat) relevant a lot longer than most of their contemporaries and I doubt that Jay-Z's "The Takeover" will last anywhere near as long as most of the stuff Jim and the boys put out. 

No one sounds new and dangerous forever. Not even Beethoven.

Interesting. I would say that this is their finest. Soft Parade is difficult to listen to. The driving bass penetrates my soul on this one.

I tried, I really did, back in my Devotion to Hippiedom Days.  But I never ever liked the Doors.  They strike me as raspy and whiney - amplified kvetching.  It sounds like they are singing the same note over and over again.  A misery to hear.

There's really not that much - they only recorded about 65 tunes, many of which are either terribly dated (like this one) or painfully over-played.
