The money would be pretty good
if a quart of milk were still a dollar
or even if a quart of milk were still a quart
And the hours, well, I don't mind
how they creep on by like an old love of mine
it's the years that simply disappear that are doing me in

Guess I married too young,
yeah, nineteen was just too young,
but sometimes you meet someone
and your guts just burn
It's not that I don't love him anymore
it's just that when I hear him
coming through that front door
my heart doesn't race like it did once before

But I've got a horse out in the country
I get to see him every second Sunday
He comes when I call him,
yeah, he knows his name
One day I'll saddle up
and the two of us will ride away

This weather I could almost stand
if the sun would shine a little brighter
or even if the sun would shine at all
But lately it just seems to me
that this life has lost its mystery
and these cold fall mornings seem to bite
just a little bit harder

And all my friends have settled down
become their mothers and their fathers
without a sound
Except for Cathy,
she bought a one-way subway ticket
and left us all behind

But I've got a horse out in the country
I get to see him every second Sunday
He comes when I call him,
yeah, he knows his name
One day I'll saddle up
and the two of us will ride away

This town wouldn't be so bad
if a girl could trust her instincts
or even if a girl could trust a boy

What does the pilot say when you enter Trumpland?

Fantastic melody and lyrics. Kudos to the Cowboy Junkies.
I don't guess I have heard a whole hoard of Cowboy Junkies, but this seems to be the most up-tempo one I am aware of.
Wake up, please: It's time to take your sleeping pill.
what a voice... love it {#Heartkiss}
Believe it or not these guys have a hard rock pedigree ...sort of....The band was formed by three siblings (Margo, Michael, and Peter) from the Timmins family. The Timmins siblings are descendants of Noah Timmins, a mining prospector who founded the Ontario city of Timmins. Shania Twain is also from Timmins as is Bruce Watson, guitarist with Scottish rock band Big Country.

Wow, this would even bore my grandmother.  It sounds dated and half-hearted.
yawn.....

This is sort of a tough one.  I have this cd, and I enjoy the cut, but I also agree with the comment on them being stuck in a mold.  If one hears the CJs too frequently, it just all rolls into one long 'when will this ever end, how could I possibly have ever liked this?'

Interesting... considering they are a Canadian prairie band.  LOL!

I thought they grew up in Montreal and later moved to Toronto. Not prairie towns :)  Nor rural southern either, as was previously suggested. Then again, the world is pretty homogeneous these days.

I like this more than most of their stuff.  Engaging lyrics.
Margo has such a great voice - I could listen to her sing anything.

I'm not a huge CJ fan, although from the amount of airplay they get, clearly RP is, but this is a decent song from their best album. {#Cool}
don' think I become addicted.. {#Yawn}

Count me as a fan.   This song was just followed up by a Beatles song.  I dunno if that reflects Radio Paradise management's view of things....  Could though.

Always enjoy a Cowboy Junkies tune this time of night with a cold glass of beer

I'm hitchin' the pony to my Igloo right now!
what a long tiring song ...

I'm a hard-core Junkies junkie.  There, I said it.{#Jump}
Great follow-up to some fantastic Mazzy Star.

Not her style, of course, though it would make for an interesting experiment.
Thanks, Bill, for a great song from my favorite band. It's selections like this that make me glad I donate to the RP cause!

Oh how I love these guys ... They can sing anything ... I love the Dinosaur JR remake they did. Mind you too much of the junkies will result in your brains slipping out your nose great background dinner music though
Ok, you are blowing me away! The last three songs have been GRRRReat! But this is one of my favorites that I rarely hear. I used to put this on mix tapes alot back in the grand ol' 90s.

Yeah, well you should see how she looks. You'll do a lot more than resonate: you'll supernova.

You idiot. They don't have a contract. They have their own record label (Latent Recordings). Personally, I'm glad they're doing their own thing so that they don't have to answer to some idiot record company. So the only "contract" they have is with themselves, and their fans. Thankfully not including you. s Daveinbawlmer wrote:

Happy and sad at the same time, this song. I like it a lot.

Stupidest comment I've read in a good while. Well done.
For me, CJ seem to go in cycles: great album, middlin' album, great album, middlin' again. Black-eyed man is one of the great ones.

Not to be picky, but Margo is Canadian, a quart of milk ain't a dollar anymore, and like Margo says a quart ain't even a quart anymore ...it's a litre!

Not up here, where it's also no longer a quart.
9, bordering on a 10. I absolutely LOVE this song....

New album out by Cowboy Junkies. Oddly, you can't listen to snippets on their site, but you can at Amazon (RP-friendly link).
Um ... a quart of milk is still a dollar.
Margo's voice makes my soul resonate.

Yeah, when a woman has something going on on the side, it's poignant. When a man does, it's contemptible. Why is that?
It helps if the man is meeting up with something on par with a horse, as opposed to a human sex partner. Sometimes it's done well--see springsteen racinginthestreets. And thank you for making me go read the lyrics, cuz they're knock your socks off. Bumped this one up to an 8. Margo and I have been having this little on and off again affair in my mind since '88. Hope her husband doesn't mind.
Always nice to hear a local artists. Cowboy Junkies. Excellent. Give a listen to Blue Rodeo.
Phew! With those opening chords, we ducked Four Non Blondes' "What's Up?" there. Good thing, too. Likeable tune from Margo and the band.

When one partner stops trying its never truly contemptible for the other to want to feel loved and wanted. Doesn't matter which gender you are.

I love the Cowboy Junkies. Play more please!
WOW...I'm surprised this hasn't been seen a bit more here at RP. Better late than never.
Kind of upbeat compared to other Cowboy Junkies I've heard.
This is an OK song, from a great band - the tune could maybe rev up little. I liked it lot more when I read the lyrics, they are very poignant (click here)
9.30 am here. Good progression of songs for me and love TCJ anyway.
