Have you ever seen a sight as beautiful
as that of the rain-soaked purple
of the white birch in spring?

Have you ever felt more fresh or wonderful
than on a warm fall night
under a Mackerel sky,
the smell of grapes on the wind?

Well I have known all these things
and the joys that they can bring
And I'll share them all for a cup of coffee
and to wear your ring

Have you ever had the pleasure of watching
a quiet winter's snow slowly gathering
like simple moments adding up?

Have you ever satisfied a gut feeling
to follow a dry dirt road that's beckoning you
to the heart of a shimmering summer's day?

Well I have known all these things
and the joys that they can bring
And I'll share them all for a cup of coffee
and to wear your ring

And I don't know how I survived those days
before I held your hand
Well I never thought that I would be the one
to admit that the moon and the sun
shine so much more brighter when
seen through two pairs of eyes than
when seen through just one

Have you ever seen a sight as beautiful
as a face in a crowd of people
that lights up just for you?

Have you ever felt more fresh or wonderful
as when you wake
by the side of that boy or girl
who has pledged their love to you?

Well I have known all these things
and the joys that they can bring
And now every morning there's a cup of coffee
and I wear your ring

Sounds like Natalie Merchant on a bad day. At best it's some kind of tentative thing called "singing" from someone's sister/lead-singer who-can't-really-sing-except-from-middle-C-to-G if there's no humidity.

Otherwise it's, yeah, Stax and Chess and Billie Holliday.

We get it, I think 4 separate comments from you (or more? I don't know I stopped looking) means you don't like them.  Whatever dude.  Get over it, please.
My favorite Cowboy Junkies tune!

Not really.

You'll have to get past her brothers.
Natalie Merchant should deign to be offended that a mediocre outfit like the CJs copied her style. Still waiting for a song from this coffee-house pick-up band that rises above PSE.
Great album.

Never listened to the Cowboy Junkies. This sounds like 10,000 Maniacs from the In Your Tribe album... which makes it not unpleasant, but not exactly essential.

That's quite a conclusion to draw from the one song you've listened to.
Just wanna dance...or at least sway!

Song is very sexy. Just like the singer.
A wonderful group of artists, this track is unusually upbeat for them? Still love the generous restraint they put into everything. Achingly cool.

Also, I have a FEVER! And the ONLY prescription  is MORE COWBELL!

came here expressly to see the will ferrell gif that i somehow knew would be front and centre

Been hearing way too much of the Cowboy Junkies lately. I don't think they deserve as much play as RP gives them. Great band, they have some good albums, but why are they played so much when so many other deserving artists aren't on the playlist?
More Cow bells

Nice groovin' song. Love Margo Timmins' voice.
hmmm....needs more cowbell

Thanks, I came to the comments to find out whose riff that was.  Gonna go listen Clarence as soon as the Jenny's finish their song.

Thanks be to Bill and Rebecca this post Thanksgiving Monday.

Edit: I did listen to Clarence and hear the riff, but somebody had a bigger hit with that sound, and I think the Cowboy's use might sound more like the other song...... Arrrrgggg....  come on people, help me out.

Yeah but I'm betting it's ALL you hear now isn't it?

Wah-wah guitar and cowbell. Oh dear.
Nice segue from Roxy Music to Cowboy Junkies. Good tune to follow 'More than This'.

Thanks! love this song. Bought this CD  and tix to see them live for my hubby on our anniversary when it came out.

Love this song. Absolutely beautiful.{#Angel}
YAY! What a beautiful song, and what a perfect CD. Thanks, Bill. {#Roflol}
Awesome!  I love, love, love the CJs.
Cowbell and wa-wa guitar - she's really going for the retro sound in this one. Unless it was recorded back in the 70s?

Yes, Margo is scorchingly hot, but almost all of the songs are not: they are coma-inducing. The Boring Flunkies, as I call them, need a wider range, but after two decades in the biz, it ain't gonna happen.

Beautiful song. Couldnt get tired of it, like a good healthy relationship...
This is one of those songs that you suddenly pay attention to, and then, after that, it's STILL priceless, every time. It builds oh so nicely, and hits some kinda high for so long I can't believe it and then it twists and grabs me in another way and Oh God I just love it...

i was just thinking, would the cowbell in this song jump out at me as much if i hadn't seen that skit?
that is hilarious.. the cowbell completely jumped out at me while sitting here working. i switched over to check the forum for that exact reason, and it was the first comment i read. lol.

I actually never minded the cowbell until I kept seeing Farrell's mug being posted here all the time.

Anniversary Song was their encore when I saw them live about a year ago. This album is so good it's stupid.
I'd just like to take a moment to thank the internet for making cowbells in songs stand out like fingernails on a chalkboard. Thank you, internet. Thank you so much.
Thanks! I haven't heard the junkies in years.
Whenever I hear this tune, I like it more.

Absolutely.
If I didn't know better, I'd think the 10K Maniacs had reformed with a new lead singer.

That guitar is severely out of place in this song, which is otherwise pretty okay.
Love the Trinity Sessions. The first time I heard this I thought this guitar player owed a debt of gratitude (at least) to Clarence Carters' - "Slip Away". And Margo is hot...
I love the Junkies, one of my favourite bands by far. I own absolutely everything they ever released, but this song was always my least favourite from one of their best albums. Anyone interested in learning more about Cowboy Junkies should get this album as well as: Trinity Session Black-Eyed man Lay it Down
Radio Paradise has successfully brought me back to an appreciation of the Junkies, who I lost track of after their second release. I had no idea these guys had such a catalog. I've found them all on eBay and now I'm current! Never get tired of Margo's voice. Just consistently listenable music from these guys, not one badly done song in the whole catalog.
Wonderful (Sinead O'Connor-like) voice, most annoying guitar.

I haven't seen the Junkies live so I can't comment on that but I will say that they are one of my favorite bands. Yeah, I guess most of their songs are dark and brooding. Apparently that appeals to me. They are really good musicians. I don't think you can deny that. I don't usually pay too much attention to lyrics but for some reason I do when it comes to the Junkies.
I'm glad you pay attention to their lyrics; they're quite intelligent. There are references to Garcia-Marquez and Faulkner among others just on this album alone. I love Trinity Sessions, but this album might be even better. Can't swear to it, but it just might be.
Heard better from them. Still, not bad.
=;
There was a period where they were my favorite band, hands down. I still enjoy them, but my affinity has waned. Additionally, this was never one of my favorite songs by them. I'll stick with Black-Eyed Man overall and, from this album, Ring on the Sill.
more cowbell! more cowbe--no more cowbell, please.
LOVE just about anything by the junkies. Guess I dig the "minors" too.
An ode to marriage. Perfect timing. Was just thinking about my wife and me growing old. :O| Someday when we finally go on our honeymoon out west, there will be a whole lot of them Cowboy Junkies on the stereo. This is the CD that got me into them, but their more recent ones are even better.
One of the great love songs of all time.

I would have kept quiet about this, but in light of all the right-wing, Republican tripe you've posted all over the politcal boards, I can stay silent no longer! ----> "Hey, Aunt Margaret!! There's something you oughta know!"
Been hearing alot of Cowboy Junkies on RP...and I like it! Might have to get me some.

A high energy level is a not exactly a reasonable expectation for a Cowboy Junkies concert. They are masters of the slow burn. In fact, this song is about the most upbeat they've ever been.
I'm partial to "Miles From Home" for an upbeat tune. But I have to say, after buying three of their discs, I kind of lost interest. Not the type of music that gets better with successive listens, IMHO.

A nice little bit of Canadian Pop to brighten the morning.
