And now this day
The things I've seen in this age
My skies have changed,
My skies have changed
Find a place of worship and be still
There are no words for this ill

But how can we fight this bloody war with not enough soldiers?

We're a man down
We're a man down
We're a man down
And I had him but we lost him coming out

I fear the future now I must confide
Please take your place at my side
But how can we fight this bloody war with not enough soldiers?

We're a man down
We're a man down
We're a man down
And I had him but we lost him coming out

Find a place of worship and be still
There are no words for this ill
But how can we fight this bloody war with not enough soldiers?

We're a man down
We're a man down
We're a man down
And I had him but we lost him coming out

New-Gen warriors are better educated, better trained, better led, better equipped, and are better in many ways that the 'Nam Protestors will never see.  Those who want to enlist should. Those who don't; should not, never-ever- be in the military.

Draft is a response to emergency that needs "cannon fodder"... Present Western Militaries need at least 12 months, some cases 18, to build a unit. No more "plug-n-play" aka "shake-n-bake" "F-N-Gs". They build a team and train together. They go in and come out as a unit... The world has changed. The Grey Ponytails time has passed.

These are not new-gen hippies... Protesters will always find a subject to protest. Choosing issues from 50 years ago is akin to boomers protesting the First World War... Kinda silly and sad -all at the same time.

Now, can we tawk 'bout music... I like music... Speaks on so many levels without words... Didja ever wonder if Neanderthals sang to communicate rather than using words like us moderns... I wonder how much clearer we would communicate if we sang... Singing and dancing round the fire pit seems common in all societies at one time...

The polititians (best government money can buy) won't reinstate the draft for
fear of public retaliation. Hey it's a free country, and if you want to blow people up and be
blown up in some foreign land, you WILL be provided a venue.
While the powers that be may not have retained a damn thing about the horrors
of the war in Nam, they did however learn that the "Draft" will bring the American public
to their feet.. "gray ponytails" would be but a small fraction of those who would protest a system
of unwilling consignment to killing and being killed. Party on Garth !~!

Fantastic song.  Carol Keogh has one of the best voices in Ireland.

So you're ANTI violence then?
Fino, fino.

Gorgeous Anti-War Song!

If there is any ambiguity as to whether your protest song is "pro" or "anti" a given issue, you've won.

I hear ya. I wrote a Katrina song about the Sunshine Bridge makeshift morgue where they took the unclaimed bodies. The club owner wont let me perform it, saying the Boubon Street tourists dont want to hear such. So now I sing it in Cajun French and they love it (the melody, that is, they have no idea what I'm saying). Now I'm writing one about Bayou LaFourche, just gotta figure out how to say BP in french!

Beaucoup de Putes? ;)

Well, I protested and even wrote a song and sang at a protest. The hard reality is that most people in this country have become so entranced with entertainment and food that they care for nothing else. Until something shakes their narcissistic/hedonistic reality to the roots, they just don't give a damn. That and protest has become subject to isolation (free speech zones), arrest with zip ties and the media doesn't cover it (in contrast to the 60's). There have actually been a lot of protests and they continue, but CNN doesn't show it.

The corporations own this planet and they run the media and most of the big governments (can you say "lobbiest"?). Countries are essentially irrelevant...it's like when the church crowned the kings of ancient Europe. Same song, different verse.

So, go back to your iPhone fart machine and get a refill for that 120 degree Soy Latte. You'll be dead before this water boils and your children will be have to clean up the mess.

I'm going to go write another song.

Carol Keogh (and band)

Carol is widely acknowledged one of the finest singers in Ireland, her stunning voice and songwriting has graced albums by The Plague Monkeys, The Tycho Brahe and Autamata. She is now working on her own solo material.

The Anti war generation is now fallen to minority. People are more interested in other things, than to demonstrate. Some Things changed since the sixties but not enough and now a lot of things stagnate.

boring and repetitive--Yep, I agree--irritating.

No I don't (i.e. I'm with you on not understanding the rating). I was working and found this irritating enough to come and rate it (I'm wavering between 3 and 4). That doesn't happen very often with RP.

I guess I have to listen this song more for putting higher points. Now it seems quite likeable :)
Carol Keogh sounds a lot like Imogen Heap..or the other way around..not really sure which one..I like them both.

I have NO clue what the words are she's singing. Normally that is not a criterion of mine for liking a tune. But with not too much else going for it, the words here seem like they might be 'of interest'. Adding unintelligibility to her pale, cottony voice and I'm not enjoying this. Alternately, I don't feel compelled to mute it.

It is a great song... but since 10 is the max (except for your one 11), do you really put it among the greatest songs of all time?
