Yeah, that part of the song provides some insight into the young Paul McCartney's attitude towards women in general (and Jane Asher, in particular).
The sections that Lennon wrote also reflect a definite impatience with women.
It's still a great love song, but not an entirely nice one.

You miss the point, some of the lyrics are exposited. Listen to the song as a whole to get the global meaning.

Right. Human relationships have undergone a massive paradigm shift. These lyrics are so far from reality. ... Give me a break, dude. No, the lyrics are just fine for today and will be fine in 50 years.

Nah. I am not saying a cover of a Beatles song is not doable (indeed, the covers throughout Across the Universe were awesome!), but this just doesn't make it.
I'll give him some credit for the cojones. That's pretty rock and roll right there.
