I give a TEN to a song, that when it comes on I crank my sound to 11.

I have only rated 5 songs with a ten

10 - Tom Waits - The Heart of Saturday Night

And that may be an excessive number; all of them I consider to be flawless gems.

I tend to be stingy with superlatives (which, like profanity, become meaningless if overused)

Not to sound flippant, but just cause I loved it! There are literally thousands and thousands of songs that I rate a 10. I generally feel 3 ways about a song, I either love it, hate it or it is just monotonous, nondescript drone in the background. So I rate a lot of 10s and 1s with a smattering of 8s and 9s. I usually give 7s to songs that I like from groups that I cannot stand.
