Sigh. I do so miss her. And I have a pkg that I never got around to sending still sitting on a dresser in the guest room. Just a reminder to spread love and joy and peace while you can. Let people know how much they mean to you. Sprinkle hugs and kisses liberally around your family and friends. And if there is an RPeep you've meaning to write, DO IT. I am such a blubbering mess tonight.

I was grabbing an address out of my PMs when I spotted this note. It is almost exactly a year old. Typically I wouldn't post a PM but there isn't anything personal in it that I think she would mind me sharing. Cynaera wrote:I hope you can take a little time to breathe and think about the good things in life. I'm in constant pain because of my back and that cursed thigh muscle I pulled, but I have a warm house, some yummy fragrance wufting through, and a bunch of cats who love to hang with me in my bedroom while I'm on the computer. RP on the speakers, a fresh batch of pickled eggs courtesy of the sister who hates me, and a bottle of rum for later. Things aren't too bad right now, so I'm going to hang onto all that and try not to let myself worry or get depressed about things that may or may not happen. 'Tis the season, you know! Thank you again for the music and the update on your corner of the universe. I hope things slow down a little for you! Hugs, Ann Sigh. I do so miss her. Roy Orbison - Oh, Pretty Woman WonderLizard wrote:Actually, three octaves is pretty much what a well-trained vocalist should be able to achieve. For example, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Yma Sumac are reputed to have five-octave ranges. Don Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart) had a 6-7 octave range. Prince's range is fairly wide. And so on. You get the picture. Here's one source for Houston and Carey: http://prince.org/msg/8/264879
There are others. Cynaera replied: Minnie Ripperton. Phoebe Snow. Olivia Newton-John. Pretty much any guy, if you grab him in the right place with enough force. Slinking away now.

Lie Awake by Alison Krauss and Union Station Cynaera wrote: I've pinpointed the art that should go with this song: Wulfing ArtShe was a child of the Holocaust - she witnessed all manner of atrocity around her, yet she was able to produce the beautiful, ethereal works that survived that horrific time. Someone found one of her drawings, trampled in the mud, and rescued it. How someone so oppressed and persecuted could produce such beautiful, calming images is not so much a mystery as a testimony to ourselves.

Mind Games, John Lennon
Cynaera wrote:
In this time of insanity, nuclear radiation, wars and tanking economy, I appreciate John Lennon's music a LOT more these days. He was a sort of visionary - and it's not like he was complaining about the world situation and not doing anything about it. He offered solutions to big problems. Granted, his solutions seemed pretty unorthodox at the time, but now, I wonder how much of "Give peace a chance" could actually be what saves the world from itself? I miss his optimism and his snarky-but-dead-on humor.

Just came across another gem: The Psychedelic Furs — The Ghost In YouBusinessgypsy wrote:John Hughes is dead, 2011 is nigh. This, my friends, is now oldies station music. This comment is beneath you, Businessgypsy. There are no timelines here in paradise - all music is good. I AM sorry about John Hughes, though - he provided a lot of no-brainer, teen-angst movies that I still love to watch on rainy days when I can't be out climbing Mt. Everest or finding a cure for cancer.

I didn't notice the comment she made in reference to my issues with Lang/Orton. I'm flattered to have caused a stir in Cynaera. Missed, indeed.
michaelgmitchell wrote:"Helllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllpless ..." k.d., God bless ya', girl. I don't know which is worse; her beating certain words to death with her looping plunge to the great bottoms or Beth Orton's mu-hashing of wu-hords with that wu-heird "h" thu-hing she does. Actually, imagine Beth singing "Helpless"! Hmm ... hu-hu-hu-hu-hu-elllllllllp-lu-hess ... or something or other. Oh. my. gawd. I'm laughing so hard I think I dislocated my spine. You are SO dead-on. I think what I love most about Mr. Young's song is that aching, heart-breaking vocal. So much sorrow and yearning in it.... K.D. just didn't convey that in her version. And yep, Beth Orton's vo-ho-cals ca-han be-he a little bi-hit anno-hoy-ing...
