If I load the cache on two devices, is there a way to ensure that each device has a different period of the playlist loaded?

For example, if I load one device to 100% then quit the RP app, then load another device and leave the app on, will it continue to update until the playlist doesn't overlap?

The idea here is to have 12 hours of playback without repeating some of the playlist.

It works on WiFi,  but silence on cellular. I tried beakers APN thing,  but couldn't make any adjustments.

Bump, anyone else been able to make this adjustment?  I have a galaxy s6 on sprint and the APN settings are not editable.

I don't think the cache has much effect on data usage. If you're constantly fiddling with it every day - filling and flushing, yeah that'll increase data usage.
On your phone, go to Settings -> General -> Usage -> Manage Storage. That'll tell you what apps are downloading and storing data.
Could be partial downloads that are retrying and failing for some reason.
iCloud might be passing data to or from your phone. You can probably control which apps use cell data vs WiFi only.

I commented about this feature in another topic thread. It's super-super awesome when you can't get a reliable streaming connection via wifi or cell, or if you're traveling. But you have to plan ahead. Set the cache for the number of hours of RP you want to store, say, 6 or 12 hrs. Hit the play button and give it about 30 minutes to fill up. That's guaranteed good music for hours no matter where you are. Unless your battery dies. ;-)

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience to this ... my cellular data usage on my iPhone 5c has been out of control the last couple of months, and I'm pretty sure it's the latest RP app causing it.  I have unlimited data so not an issue for me financially, but still would like to get a handle on it.  My data usage used to run between 5 to 8 gb a month, the lion's share of it streaming RP at work.  The last few months, beginning with last October/November timeframe, it's increased dramatically, with the lowest being 10 gb and the highest just shy of 20 gb, and other than checking email/fb/twitter/weather, I use it mostly for streaming RP.  I never watch videos or do anything else that would use a lot of data.  My streaming habits haven't changed, and when in the office I set it to 64 kb because with all the background noise there's no reason for me to stream at a higher quality.  What I think is happening is that, even when I close the app, it's still streaming in the background.  I always have it on the cell/wifi setting and the only settings I ever change are the streaming quality, depending on my listening environment.  I've tried using the wifi option and preloading before I leave for work, but thought it did some strange things and since unlimited data, just choose not to mess with it.  I've also had it start playing on its own when I get in the car (on bluetooth), even when the app is closed (you can stop it by using the ipod controls when you swipe up from the bottom of the phone).  That seems quite strange that it would start playing when the app is not open.  Thanks for any feedback ... I love and appreciate RP and all of the streaming/viewing choices it provides.  Provider is Sprint btw, in case that makes any difference.  Have also removed the app and redownloaded on a few occasions over the past few months, so don't necessarily think that would be a solution.  Thanks!

They're both official apps.  The one from Stormy Productions is old & does not have the cache feature. It will probably be the best bet on older (4S & previous) iPhones.

Everything should be working fine with the apps currently. the program mentioned below was resolved quite a while ago.

The caching feature that was not working on my iphone or ipad with the previous version of RP 3.0 is now working flawlessly on my phone after the recent update. Cached 6 hours at 64k in about ten minutes and enjoyed RP at work most of the day. I've yet to install the updated RP 3.0 app on my ipad for a test.

Rather than switching the wifi only preference to wifi and cell when I run out of cache, I simply quit RP 3.0 and fire up RP 2.0. This way I never have to remember to reset the preference to load cache again when I'm at home.

This caching feature is the cat's meow.
Now I can relax to RP on plane trips.

Thanks RP!

Kudos to the developer of  latest app update. Cache feature downloads easily and playback is flawless after several stops and starts throughout the day due to breaks, lunch, etc.. I have been listening offline at work  all week and haven't experienced  any problems whatsoever. No more crashing either.

I'm the developer of the app. The app is not really processor intensive, but it's definitely memory intensive when filling a big cache. A couple of nasty bug (I'm still trying to fix one) makes this more critical. Anything more than 4 hours can make the OS kill the app if something goes wrong, especially true on 4s, of course, when the processor (or the lack of it) plays a role.
I'm sorry for the problem but I had some report of the crashes, but the logs didn't report anything because it was not the app crashing but the OS killing it (so no trace of it on the log, only a suddenly stop).
I'm trying to fix the problem, but it's complex and not easy to reproduce (not always the memory pressure is enough to crash the app)... I have a beta running, if you want to help test it (and you are on iOS8) just send me an email at gt_AT_iltofa.com and I'll have Apple send an invite to test.

As a separate note, the display don't dim as a choice. The app have lyrics and the slideshow, so to dim the screen can be really boring. We decided to ask the system to not dim the screen because, if you want to preserve battery, you can simply leave the app in background (ie: return to the "finder") and the device will dim the screen normally.

Again, sorry for the problems... activating the caching system for 4 hours or less should not manifest any problem. Hopefully. 😉

Thanks.

I actually have more available memory on my phone than on my iPad. The iPad is newer however, and more powerful.

I just fired up the app on the phone to attempt another cache load at less than  4 hours and the app immediately started playing and would not stop. Even quitting the app by flinging it off the top of the display found the app continuing to play for several more seconds before it quit. I've deleted it and will download it again to attempt loading less than 4 hours of cache.

I'll consider helping with the beta test and let you know.

Thanks again.

Edit:

While the app was playing from cache in the background the display would occasionally brighten and then dim again a few moments later. I was working and would look up occasionally to see this, but I never investigated to see what might be causing it. Maybe switching songs?

Edit2:

On the 4s I just downloaded the app again and started filling 3 hours of cache. The app shut down after about 3 minutes.
