There is much talk in the Hurwitt household these days about retirement. Greg reaches his magic number next year and while he's not ready to stop working (or give up his earning potential), we're looking at numbers, dates, and scenarios. It won't happen soon, and no, right now we can't afford to retire, but it will happen, and all we've worked and saved for for 30 years will be worth it. I will keep working until I can't anymore, but I work for myself, so I have no magic number to reach. As long as my hands and eyesight hold out, I'm good to go.

No, as I was forced into it early by ending up on disability. Now have no savings, no car and what looks like a pretty bleak future (if I live that long)

My wife and I just retired in July. We actualy semi-retired in 05 and have been working part-time until this summer. I did my research and decide to live fulltime in Mexico. We currently live in a beautiful home with pool, view and maid for $400 a month. We have had several offers to housesit for expats here in Puerto which will eliminate al lhousing  monthly costs. Food is cheap. We could save quite a lot but we like to eat out. Entertainment is our biggest expense. All in all, we spend less than a $1000 a month and could live on less. We have two houses in the states which we rent out. The combination of rents provides us with enough income to be very comfortable. You must invest the time and money to get to know a place and the people who live there. I spent every winter for 10 years getting to know locals and slowly became a part of the community. The move was easy and we are enjoying our new life. Mexico is not for everyone. It is noisy, a little dirty but anyone would trade this view I'm looking at right now, for any working life in the States.

Could you adopt me please?
