I knew this African called Hannibal
Rock it roll it send it down the avenue
Went out to see the Roman Empire fall
Uh huh? uh huh?

Two thousand elephants in gold chain-mail
Take it, shake it, make it what you wanna be
Them Roman legionnaires they hit the trail
Uh huh?

The world is what you make it
The world is what you make it

When Cleopatra ruled in Egypt's land
Jump down, turn around, look at what the monkey did
She went to find herself a mighty man
Uh huh? uh huh?

In come Antonio from Italy
Haul it, ball it, drag it up the pyramid,
He never knew how hot a girl could be
Uh huh?

The world is what you make it
The world is what you make it baby
The world is what you make it

Don't start to hit me with your "no can do"
Bluesin', losin', workin' up an attitude
Clean up them windows let the sun shine through
Uh huh? uh huh?
There ain't no happy time without no pain
heartbreak, new date, move on up the alleyway
Pick up them pieces hit the road again
Uh huh

A really bad song. Is it necessary to play absolutely everything on RP?

Perfect!
I like it!
Whirled is what you make it when you trade your contry for a  red hat
The world is rocking naked!
Thanks Bill. This makes me smile thinkin’ back about my son, then 7 or 8, singing along w/the “uhHUH…uhHUH!”He’s 24 now and I think he still digs some of the old man’s music. lol!
I guess this song will never be the same, now. Thank you, Bill.
My first hearing of this gentleman. I think I like him a lot.
Most of my ratings don't get an 8 right off the bat but this does.

Before I saw the lyrics, I thought he was singing 'the world is buck naked'

Yup.

Was going to comment something along these lines...but Fred said it way more eloquently...the world is tilted to those without conscience for they are willing to wreck, collect and destroy for personal gain without a moment of guilt...check the news for the last 8 years and tell me I'm wrong....

I think you'll find that it's "The world just wants you naked."

That's the way you come in, so it's reasonable to assume that this is, in fact, what the world wants, and therefore that's what the lyrics are, despite to any evidence to the contrary.

That's my approach anyway.  Excuse me while I drop trou...
You know what, Paul can call me anytime, to Jam!
Anyone else getting a David Lindley vibe from the guitar here?
I was getting "the word is walking naked"
"he wasn't fucking naked"
I thought he said "The World is One Jamaican".  I thought that was pretty profound.

Funny. I was talking with my brother tonight and he mentioned ordering a book by Siegel. I know I've seen his name mentioned in research I've done on the mind. Synchronicity I guess. Glad you posted this.
Sweet historical references!

The world is watching naked. Yes, Bill, that's what I thought he was saying the whole time!
I love this song but recent events regarding counting and the like make me think that some may have misinterpreted it.
One of my late wife’s favourite songs - thanks for playing it, RP! :)
Saw Paul Brady twice (at Glastonbury in the 80s) having discovered him via a cover band that absolutely nailed Busted Loose

@BillG - THANKS for that light-hearted tag-on after playing this...and as far as infections go, a mondegreen, esp. one including 'naked', is fully welcome here, sure beats the other virus that I'm hearing about that's rather catchy too.

Long Live RP and appropriate nudity!!

Sorry, missed that one...

It's interesting that I was thinking that this track sounded like... looked at your profile and the last song you rated was:

last rated songartist: David Lindley title: Bon Ton Roulie

Isn't life strange?
"The world is f*cking naked"??
More Paul Brady please!
Anyone else over here in Merrie England remember this being used as the theme tune to a sitcom called 'Faith in the Future'? Cast included a couple of young up-and-coming actors called Julia Sawalha and Simon Pegg, and was a bit ace
The world what I made and what about it is harmed by others? maybe we just need a single good angel.

Not to mention the man is out of Northern Ireland, if that doesn't qualify for a crappy hand what does? A good lyric with a sound rhythm, an 8 for me..

Now that's funny!
Who IS this guy?  Loving this. Thanks, Bill!!
"the world is watching naked" ??
(fredriley's comment doesn't need another quote) The world is what it is, and doesn't care much about you one way or the other. That said, you can choose how you think about it, whether you think it's against you or on your side, and the stories you tell about it.

Reasonably cool song, otherwise.

I sort of have to agree with you there, Fred.  I don't know if the mondegreen that I've heard from this song:  "The world's buck naked!"  is preferable or not!

Anyway, a nice happy song.

This song always puts me in a good mood.  Its in regular rotation in the car.  Great to listen to on the way into work.

It's OK when Paul Brady strays from his Celtic roots. This is one of his best.

I remember that this is one of the very first songs I heard when I first tuned into RP over 7 years ago.

Thanks for all the great music Bill and Rebecca!

Aha, a little more RP serendipity: I was chatting to Paul's sister last week (family connections) and this week I'm taking some time out to recharge & make sure what I make of the world is the best it can be.

Always enjoyed Paul Brady's music from Hard Station and on.

it's got a nice beat and you can certainly dance to it, hoopah!
You should hear Jeffery Steele do this .... not that Paul Brady isn't excellent ...

Aha! That was on "Bringing it All Back Home". I knew I recognized that voice!
love this song! so does the house!
I'm dancing!
I listened to again after hearing Bill's comments. "The world is watching naked!"
cool song I think. First time I've heard it.

Me too. Fast growing on me Snappy snare work
Ha! "The world is watching, naked" will forever be the lyrics for me now, you bastards! Much like the old Metallica standard that now sings "Where I lay, my head explodes."
New for me. I like it. Make it, Naked - whatever.

This is f'g great! Good beat and guitar work. More of this artist, please!
TUSK! don't say that you love me!!
Was nice ... for a while. Then, oh, ah, maybe i'm missing the point if there was one.
Paul Bradys catalogue is full of much better work than this CD. IMHO. 'Hard station', and 'True for you' are my favourite albums. Once met and took out a German masseuse to a PB concert in a revamped railway station in Cologne, but managed to get through the evening without having to marry her!
Ummmmmm........ "Shalalalalalaah..." well what more can I say.... Actually, I can say far more. My future ex-wife kissed me almost 19 years ago straight after a Paul Brady concert in Dublin. We're separating currently... what a waste of time that was. Sorry Paul, but I blame you totally, you rotten bollix!!! :D

This song bites.
The tune is very very annoying after a while...no more comments
Seems kind of Trite... Having said that, I liked it.
Excellent. True as well...we reap what we sow. No sow, no go.

If you buy one album today, make it this one. Great from start to finish. Then, go back and get some of his traditional Irish stuff. Outstanding. Listen to Arthur McBride
He can record some mediocre stuff, but just listen to songs like Dancer in the Fire or Cold, Cold Night from his classic Hard Station album - wow! this one is very likeable but without the emotion of some of the older material.
Just discovered Paul along with the other Planxty member, Christy Moore--both great Irish folk artists with different styles doing different things.. He does a great job on traditional tunes, get\'s a VanMorrisonlike vocal style going on some songs
