Well I don't have as many friends because
I'm not as pretty as I was
I've kicked myself at times because I've lied
So I will have to learn to stand my ground
I'll tell 'em I won't be around
I'll move on over to your town and hide

And you be the Captain
And I'll be no-one
And you can carry me away if you want to
And you can lay low
Just like your father and if
I tread upon your feet you just say so
'Cos you're The Captain, I am no-one,
I tend to feel as though I owe one to you

Well I have handed all my efforts in
I searched here for my second wind
Is there somewhere here to let me in I asked
So I slammed the doors they slammed at me
I found the place I'm meant to be
I figured out my destiny at last

Did I forget to thank you for the ride
I hadn't tried I tend to runaway and hide

So dump him already and move on! Sheesh.

She wrote this song as a tribute to her father. Wasn't mean to be a put down. People just took it that way.

little girl voice with mushy enunciation-NO
Nice resurrection...I dig it...seldom played tracks are some of the best 'round these parts...'cause like we haven't heard them to death...
Oh man, about 30 minutes ago, thinking of all the bands RP has turned me onto and Kasey Chambers came to mind. I remember one Christmas my dad and I were in my truck going to the grocery and Casey came on... my dad was blown away!  I believe it was Southertn Kinda Life. Thanks Bill and Rebbeca.

No, maybe Jill Sobule, though.
I hereby nominate this song for Sara Palin's theme song. Cheers!

I like Kasey, and her daddy does a fine job playin' that electric "geetar" for her.

thank u mr. g
I LOVE this song! It's one one those songs-that-I've-tried-to-play-and-sing-but-just-didn't-sound-right kind of songs... it also reminds me of "Hallelujah" by Martin Sexton...
Wow. A great voice. Snarky man-hating lyrics, but I'll let it slide... 'Specially since that kind of woman turns me on for some reason :)
What a great song by a very charismatic live performer with a fascinating personal history. Check her out: https://www.kaseychambers.com/ Tried uploading "A Million Tears", my favorite, but it was not to be. A pity.

maybe u r just half-baked then, dear
this song makes me feel like a part of myself is missing... it makes the place where that something should be ... hurt ... i love it
Kasey Chambers is great. Even though this graces the second Sopranos soundtrack, it can be found on her first album "The Captain". She's Australian, but sounds like she's cut from the same cloth as EmmyLou Harris and the most excellent Julie Miller. Julie and Buddy Miller, btw, are to be found all over The Captain album, as well as its follow-up "Barricades and Brickwalls". Good, good stuff.
this song is poor. i just don't like it, sorry. emo-country.
I like a lot of other Casey Chambers' tunes more than this one, but they may be too country for RP...
Great song, great album (the Captain not the Soprano's soundtrack). Kasey's pretty enough for me!
