You and your museum of lovers
The precious collection you've housed in your covers
My simpleness threatened by my own admission

And the bags are much too heavy
In my insecure condition
My pregnant mind is fat full with envy again

But I still love to wash in your old bathwater
Love to think that you couldn't love another
I can't help it... you're my kind of man

Wanted and adored by attractive women
Bountiful selection at your discretion
I know I'm diving into my own destruction

So why do we choose the boys that are naughty?
I don't fit in so why do you want me?
And I know I can't tame you... but I just keep trying

'Cause I love to wash in your old bathwater
Love to think that you couldn't love another
I'm on your list with all your other women
But I still love to wash in your old bathwater
You make me feel like I couldn't love another
I can't help it... you're my kind of man

Why do the good girls always want the bad boys?

So I pacify problems with kisses and cuddles
Diligently doubtful through all kinds of trouble
Then I find myself choking on all my contradictions

'Cause I still love to wash in your old bathwater
Love to think that you couldn't love another
Share a toothbrush... you're my kind of man
I still love to wash in your old bathwater
Make me feel like I couldn't love another
I can't help it... you're my kind of man

No I can't help myself
I can't help myself
I still love to wash in your old bathwater

I'm with you.. the lyrics squick me out, metaphor or not

Once upon a time (16th century), an entire family might have shared their bath water. This lead to the saying "Throwing out the baby with the bathwater" (another metaphor).   The baby was last in. The water so dirty you could not tell the baby was in it.

Too bad fame and fortune have gotten to Gwen. She was cool when this was going on.
A previous comment said this artist was "exploring her style" - I see she didn't find anything...

Then it's not true love.

Tremendous. No doubt, I'd swim in her bathwater.

She often tried hard; she ended up having a pretty illustrious career.  I was never really into this band but this song is pretty good.
Back when Gwen was part of fresh new stuff.,
No doubt about it. I can't stand her voice.
LOVE a few of Gwen's songs. This isn't one.
Many make me feel she was exploring her range of style.  Respect, but no sale.

Yup.  Not in character at all.....

I find the lyrics fun.

I KNEW there was a reason I don't listen to mainstream radio: I can still enjoy this. Love the drumming and general offbeat (pardon the pun...) nature of this song.

To the haters:
If this was played as a "new artist" or anything other than under the No Doubt name, you would not be whining.
In fact, you'd like it.  Get off the high horse.

I've listened to RP since 2000 and I don't recall ever hearing this song. Curious.

Wow! This blended sweetly right after Tracy Bonham's "Devil's Got Your Boyfriend" {#Clap}
In an attempt to turn this positive, I would have to say that No Doubt was a big surprise on the plus side live. Gwen's energy works really well on stage in an unscripted genuine way.

Humm, let me try. Preprocessed, talentless, thoughtless, shit for the preprogrammed masses. At least those people most likely don't listen to this station.
This band had one great tune --- Hey Baby --- and a lot of other stuff that really didn't do it for me. And I agree with the comments re Gwen's solo stuff: Toni Basil did it already --- give it a rest.

yeah, what happened to her? I was switching channels a little while back ago and I saw her on tv singing some some that goes like "WOOHOO, WEEHOO" the whole time in a really annoying way. Yet another example of why bands shouldn't break up. Seems like she's got a case of LSD (lead singer's disease)
Share a toothbrush? yuck!

Sorry, but Sanjaya has forever ruined this song.
It's hard not to love Gwen, but let's face it; this song is pretty lame.

Good for you Bill... Knowing that there was going to be a contingent saying "I can hear Gwen/No Doubt on my local FM Station", he still had the balls to play a song that is more than worthy for RP's playlist... despite the said contingent. Come on people... get over yourselves and just enjoy what really is a fun song.
no doubt this song sux.
Personally surprised I'm hearing this song on RP right now.
Jesus, she turned into the cheesiest of jet set trash, didn't she. What happened to homegirl?
Really? I love No Doubt, but this song sucks.

This song rocks.
I No Doubt and Gwen!

I'm stretching by giving this a 5.

"I've seen fire and I've seen rain." Hmm, never thought of that as whiney.
One of the worst songs I have heard in recent memory on RP. When will it end!?
Love this band and love this song.
Blech. I really hate this woman's voice.

So, what, exactly, are they playing in Portland these days? Far as I'm concerned, music went downhill when Seafood Mama became Quarterflash and sold out to the mainstream... But, that's just me...

Just clean fun - I love her singing! Enjoy the water!

Marley, Interesting back-story to your comment. I know sometimes people just don't like something, but sometimes there's more to it - makes the forum section more interesting when when people take the time to elaborate. Marley wrote:

Said it before and I'll say it again - good stuff! - MORE No Doubt wouldn't bother me at all.
Unlike apparently most people here, my appreciation for this band took a turn from non-existant to something-with-more-respect after hearing this particular song.
I could do without hearing No Doubt on RP ever again.
I've had a love/blahblahblah relationship with this one. Today it's catchy, upbeat and loverly on a sunny spring day. In addition, that was an amazing segue from Cab to this...even if it is deja vu...It really made me hear the beginning of this song as never before. True love, washing in someone's old bathwater is. (insert Yoda smiley)
...no one can deny the effort they put in to the music... S.
3 in a row that make me wanna dance!

I'm usually pretty tolerant, but Gwen just annoys the hell out of me.
Indeed, I could tolerate her on "Just a girl" but in most other songs I've heard from this band (before they started to make the current overproduced bombastic stuff), the exaggerated tremolo makes me want to travel back in time to the moment and place the recording was made, armed with a roll of duct tape.
Gwen Rules!!!!!!! just like Karen O
Everytime this song plays...people noitce it is preceeded by the same two songs...which is fine. But it's the fact that the song isn't up to snuff is what is drawing attention to this...one opinion anyway

Okay, just send her on my way! (pimp)

We are repeating a playlist again - but it's kinda like popping your fav mix CD in... I'm totally grooving!
Now lets just hope it will be another 730 days until I hear the next No Doubt song.....I can only hope.
So what do you think - Bill and Rebecca stay up 24/7 programming original lists? s Mugro wrote:

I've gotta add myself to the list of those who totally disagree with this point of view. This song is really fun and enjoyable. As always if you don't like it, just mute and wait while we enjoy it.

The opening bars of Duke Ellington's "East St. Louis Toddle-o" (1926) at the beginning of "Bathwater" tied the two cuts together. Yet another one of Bill's brilliant segues.

Good question! A great follow to Minnie the Moocher, but on it's own it borders on Top 40 Pop! In this scenario we'll let it pass. :nodhead:
agreed. i'm giving it an 8 mostly because of the mix! fitz368 wrote:

This gets played and Allison Moorer gets rejected? Sigh. It's OK. RP is still the best online radio I have ever heard.

No, we listen to RP to avoid the songs that we always hear on top-40 radio stations. No Doubt has a good song or two. I sometimes wish that the comments were limited to only first-time listeners to the band or song. Your predjudice against pop radio doesn't necessarily mean that a song by a band played on pop radio sucks. Open your mind. :-({|=
wow, a No Doubt song I don't hate. cool.
I agree. but once in a while her songs tend to sound good to me.

Agreed. I think it's just that I find Gwen Stefani to be an obnoxious, shameless poseur: to me she's the McDonna of alt-rock. The band has some talent and they write some nice songs (like this), though.
Absolutly LOVE THIS SONG! Love to think that you couldn't love another, your my kind of maaaannnn.
Good song! And certainly NOT too mainstream. Do yoursleves a favor and get ahold of the Beacon Street Collection. It is absolutly one of the best CDs ever made. No Doubt gets a lot of flak because in recent years they have "sold out"...but one must remember that in the 90's, they reigned with Sublime and others. All bands change with time. Maybe No Doubt will go the route of U2 and return to thier core productions to reign once again.
Do doubt has talent absolutely. Their overexposure in the vast wasteland of commercial radio does not diminish their appeal to me at all. Thank you for playing this. Great song. Would the Beatles or the Stones have been considered too commercial in today's environment??
corpear wrote:

I personally listen to RP to OPEN my mind and LISTEN to different music style... eclectic, intellegent and open minded...
It's really a shame, you know. I had such high hopes for this band in the beginning.
well, this is certainly something i never expected to hear on RP

I am horrified by the success of No Doubt....Gwen's voice makes my ears bleed-let alone the stupid lyrics. She sounds like an alley cat in heat.
