right from the start I knew it: never heard it beforehand, I resisted klicking PSD-B, and I was right. It's pretty cool, no "El condor pasa" sth. anymore, but ......
Close to perfection

wait. don't hold back. are you trying to say that "ambient" and "techno" aren't your favorite genres? or "rap" or "hip hop?" is that a grey hair i see?
I'm sure DJ Shadow knew he was using Wolfe. And the use of El Condor Pasa is brilliant, if you think about the lyrics of that song, and the music that signifies it that they use. The songs is, after all, called You Can't Go Home Again. https://www.lyricsfreak.com/s/simon-and-garfunkel/124731.html
Chapter 7: Sampling -- what went wrong

Thom Yorke could create a better mix than this on his etch-a-sketch.

I'll give this an extra point for the title "You can't go home again" by Thomas wolf. If you get a chance to read it--great stuff. But if they just pulled that title out of their butts, I'm deducting four points.
Unusual butts they must have...but I agree. Love Thomas Wolfe. Wish he'd had a better editor.
sooooo boooooring yaaaawn

sorry, but this comment gets the "unabashedly ign'ant" stamp.
Well I did give it a 3!
Wow so much hate for Shadow, I know that many on here are not fans of turntablism but it like anything else is an art. And can be done well or poorly and Shadow is one of the best. He takes what came before, combines it and creates something new and in truth that is what many artists have done for years.
Just a sprinkling of these songs is all I need.

It is not a toy piano it is called Charango and it is small guitar(smaller than a mandolin)
I could swear I heard samples from Corey Hart's "Sunglasses at Night" in this.
pretty good. can't believe nobody put the drummer guy up yet (even though i'm pretty sure it's really a machine..)

Yeah, good sampling, Shadow is dark and intense, as usually.
I would call him more annoying and unimagitative (IMHO) Simon and Garfunkel already stole El Condor Pasa from South American folk music, now it is taken again, a really miserable mixture

that's what i thought too, but it turns out that the track used for this mix is actually a clone of El Condor Pasa from some Korean band... i like this. play it again.
That must be why the quality of the sample is so bad....I kinda like this, too.
i'm really genuinely surprised at how many people have a negative reaction to this piece. what's so bad about it? it makes for an excellent background track if you ask me; perfect to paint/crunch-numbers/mop-the-floor to...
Oh why cant I press a button for the next selection
Yeah...right...music...harrumph... :-k

Primal. Provocatively intriguing.

OMG ... and then you follow up with Simon.. I tell you there's a devilish streak in Bill..

I know this just doesn't click for me First Paul Simon stills it from Chile, then Shadow from Simon.. what is next?
that's steals, or stole, but stills? .. distills maybe? Well anyway.. I for one want my money back.. that's tom foolery.. trickery if you will.. making me think I'm going to get Simon-ized and instead I get Shaded. :( Don't get me wrong.. its nice.. not bad really.. but not what I'd thought I was gonna get.. thought no one else in their right mind would have taken that sound into their own.. :)
This artist is obviously artistically retarded. :headshake:
Sounds like Blue Man Group is the backup band!
love it.

Really? Cool. Where'd you learn that?
this past summer, when this song was getting played a lot on KCRW here in LA, Nick Harcourt mentioned it during one of his "Morning Becomes Eclectic" shows. i love this song. the 80s new wave vibe makes me feel very cozy somehow. :D
How many freaking techno stations are there on the Internet already? :/

Hmm, '80s boom boom beat. Not great.
I cannot understand why you are a RP listener. I cringe at your every comment and thank god that I have been blesseed with an open mind. beelzebubba wrote:

Nice to hear DJ Shadow but, he's done better.
Mmmnnnph. I can't decide whether I really like it, or it irritates the hell out of me. Guess I'd better hold off on rating it.

Nice transition to the Doves :D Now if we hear this twice in a row, THAT would be something. -ptah

Yikes. That's another track that was mangled in our server move. Should be fixed now & will play properly next time it comes up. Thanks to the folks who emailed me! -bg

Yeah, I have really enjoyed much of his work. Glad to hear him on RP.
Aww ... I thought this was over.
So groovin' in my seat... But I agree with an earlier post, it sounds like there are some chops in the song that are not supposed to be there...

I think it's another HoHum rating. Wow that's two bad ratings in a row from me.. If it didn't sound like it was skipping, I'd notch it up to a 4.

DJ Shadow - only the most innovative, groundbreaking DJ alive. (pimp)
Has some odd skips in it (and they sound deliberate, since they don\'t span all of the tracks). Distracting. Sampling from scratchy vinyl Simon & Garfunkel \"El Condor Pasa\" is a little peculiar. Listenable once.
awesome! very happy to be hearing some more Shadow here on RP.
I had to give it a \"quite likeable\". Is that a sample from Simon & Garfunkel\'s \"El Condor Pasa\" running in the background? Hard to tell on the speaker on the office computer here. If so, it makes for a really nice tie in to the previous song.
Hah. I like this. A nice groove. :)
