Eyeless in the morning sun you were
Pale and mild
A modern girl
Taken with thought still prone to care
Making tea
In your underwear
You went out in the yard to find
Something to eat
And clear your mind
And something bad inside me went away

Quaking leaves and broken light
Shifting skin
The coming night
The bearers of all good things arrive
Climb inside us
Twist and cry
A kiss on your molten eyes
Myriad lives
Like blades of grass
Yet to be realized
Bow as they pass

They are cold
Still
Waiting in the
Ether to
Form
Feel
Kill
Propogate
Only to die

They are cold
Still
Waiting in the
Ether to
Form
Feel
Kill
Propogate
Only to die
Dissolve magically
Absurdly
They'll end
Leave
Dissipate
Coldly and
Strangely
Return

+1 for the Doppler ultrasound

I hate it when other people do this but this could be a Pink Floyd tune.
I appreciate the quality.
NO.
Nice transition Bill & Rebecca. Classy link....

Yea, all it needs is a screaming Ted Nugent guitar solo and it'd be perfect! Not.

The human heartbeat as heard by ultrasound, I think. Please don't stop it. {#Eek}

My favorite Shins song that isn't on Australia! {#Jump}

A pan from both Bill and Rebecca— James Mercer better sit up and take notice.  Have loved the Shins in their various iterations for years, but this call out from RP gives me pause.

Hey, Bill G. Tell us how you really feel about that new Shins record.
very nice

this is very definitely like the Hollie's On A Carousel!
I remember cooking to this in my kitchen in Setagaya-ku after buying it on a whim in Shinjuku, coming home and slapping it on... It's kind of an almost sci-fi, rather Circle-of-Life philosophical musing, without the trappings or traps of Religion, to boot. LOVE THE SHINS

This song (and this set) seem to be rotating every other day or so... what's going on?
 fatcatjb wrote:

It's what happens when a band sit around in the studio, it's late, everybody is tired and then and somebody says "I know, why don't we put this in the background..." and nobody says yeah or nay so it stays in the final recording.  I am sure if the Shins thought about it in the clear light of day they would not have put that in. Just my speculation to amuse y'all.

Haha, seriously!  I thought my speakers were blown

Love the purring and the life before life lyrics.

It's a great song.  Mostly real Shins fans will appreciate it.  Most others won't.
This is really pretty. Especially in the morning.
This song has really grown on me. It soothes me much more now than it used to annoy me before.

"Making tea in your underwear"? As a filter, I suppose?

Surprising amount of whining in the comments for this one. It's very far from my usual styles, but I gotta say it's actually pretty nice, particularly paired with 'Dear Prudence' as often seems to be the case...

You know the song sucks you when WISH RP would hurry up and play a commercial.

John Lennon is / was a hard act to follow - this Shins tune does it nicely

The guitar melody reminds me of the music from "Cool Hand Luke."
They played this song at their recent concert in Richmond.  They did a 3-part harmony on the chorus that just blew the place away.  I mean, it was musically spot on both in the pitch and timing.  Fantastic.

I'm thinking maybe A Pillow of Winds, from Meddle?? Also, the untitled solo acoustic guitar track between Is There Anybody Out There and Nobody Home on side 3 of The Wall.
This is pretty ... maybe too pretty...

The guitar part is a little similar to "Goodbye Blue Sky" in parts.

I know what you're saying, and it's true that, considering the enormous size of the RP library, we hear quite some songs very very regularly, and others all too infrequently. But I notice that those songs do change, and sometimes I'll hear a song I haven't heard in a long time on RP, that used to be in frequent-repeat mode. And more importantly, when I think of how much time it takes to put together the carefully chosen sets that Bill does, it makes sense that he would put some songs in more frequent rotation just to make the job easier. Or....?? I don't know how he does it. Just a guess. Still, I can't really complain about the repeat thing, in comparison to how grateful I am to RP for turning me on to so much excellent music and filling my days with it. I'll happily hear repeats (esp. when I like the songs being repeated!!)
I think it is just the songs we don't like that seem to get repeated. Unfortuantely this is one of them for me. That repetitive whooshing sound is really annoying on a good system. I don't mind the good ones being repeated. :-)

That droning guitar becomes a torment after a while. They actually play this song as part of their extremely small repertoire in the third circle of Hell.

But sometimes I feel like Bill doesn't dig deep enough into his collection. There must be tens of thousands of tracks on the playlist - couldn't we hear a little more from the back library?

Sounds somewhat Donovan-esque.
And now, for your listening enjoyment during your stay here in Hell, we've got a little tune by the Shins. So just sit back, relax and enjoy. The song will end... never. Oh, and here's your cup of coffee.

sounds like me tuning a guitar, and playing my first song ever... he has a better voice than me though...
This song reminds me a little of Sebadoh's "Ocean". Can't remember if the Intro is similarly acoustic guitar or if I heard an acoustic version of it.

Personally, that breathing, or reverb, or whatever it is, makes it sound like there is some production problem to me. Like it's a vinyl LP playing on a wobbly floor with someone walking through the room. I like the song just fine, but can't take that "sound" in the background...
