I don't mean to be pedantic, but did you know there ARE horse feathers? The frilly hairs around the hoofs and fetlocks of draft horses, like Clydesdales, Percherons, and other breeds such as Freisans are called "feathers."
Understandable that this would be an acquired taste but, once acquired, I've found much of their music to be captivating.  Previous poster cited "Curs in the Weeds" and "Working Poor" as being off of this debut release, but those are actually off their second album "House with No Home".   Both have great moments, but for me the first one "Words are Dead" (containing this track) is better.  It's one of those albums that I fixated on — playing little else — for a period of weeks.  Strange how music can mesmerize some — touching some unconscious thread in our brains that we didn't even know was there — while repulsing others.  I guess that's why we listen, no?

Play on, Goldsmith's.  Play on!
It sounds very distorted.

{#Arghhh} Horse Feathers! .......{#Lol}
Does the singer sound like the bassist for Gomez? {#Ask}

Edit: Just glanced through the posts and I see that I'm not alone in thinking this...

{#Boohoo}  play that fiddle !
Horse Pucky.

{#No}

Great Lake Swimmers are SO much better than this.

The violin in this is grating on my nerves too. Never really cared much for this song...or this band in general...

Haddock.

Hmm. At first I thought it was Gomez. Nice tune.

I agree. I know I'm in the minority here, though. So, I guess I'll just take a walk.

reminds me of Donovan
Nice vocals...

That's who I thought it was, too.

Love this! Wish RP would play it a bit more often.
For some reason I thought this song was by Gomez, Maybe that's why I can't find it{#Frustrated}
{#Sleep}
yeah for portland music!

The soundtrack to Blindness sounds a lot like this, it's terrific.

{#Frustrated} a bit overplayed - good case of less is more

really nice song

After hearing this track, I bought the album, and whilst I do like it, I find listening to all the tracks "on the trot" becomes tiresome. I prefer to shuffle the tracks in with other stuff. Then again, I have a few other albums like that.

I could kind of see that, but for me, it's the best part of the song.
I don't know why, but the violin in this song just grates on me.
beautiful and simple!
My initial thoughts with the intro was that this came from the Penguin Cafe {#Whistle}
Great song.

I feel I must comment to overcome the spate of spam dropped into the message board by recent commentors like a glob of bird poop on a windshield.  Consider this a bit of window washer fluid.

{#Music} Very lovely.

Wow, very nice song. Never heard this band before.
Dropped from 3 to 1 because I am damn sick of hearing this crappy song all the time.

Yeah, I know what you mean.   But the Penguins are a LOT better.
Man, this is dull.
This is definitely annoying.
Annoying sound.....

you missed a comma. after "see." (i only point that out 'cause you seem to be suggesting that beth orton is something less than horse feathers. otherwise, chas, i woulda cut you some slack.)
I like this.
Saturday Sunday

That was kind of annoying.

I thought it was an obscure Gomez song...

Atsa from "A Night at the Opera", but it is still one of my favorites too.

When I was 10, I loved the Marx Brothers. Then I outgrew them or something, or maybe I watched them too much and got tired of them. I must have looped back around again, because that quote is hilarious!
Very nice...makes me want to waltz off into the ether.

Not feeling this one. Kinda slow.
I like the light pulsing rhythm. I agree about the Gomez, but in a slightly higher range - sort of a Gomez/Decembrists combo. Great set - I keep trying to leave work, but good songs keep coming on, dammit!
nice

I'm a sucker for violins.
Love the mellow vocals mixed with seesawing instrumentals.
Sounds sort of like Penguin Cafe Orchestra stuff.
Great Marx Brothers movie.
