I don’t know what it is, but to my ancient, prog rock snob ears, this band really seems to check all the boxes. Really do dig them. Thanks RP!

20+ years ago I went to the "Death and Dismemberment Tour". My friend was a Death Cab fan, and I was a Dismemberment Plan fan, so we combined our Wonder Twin powers, along with a lot of beer, and saw one helluva show. I left a DCFC fan, and he left a Dismemberment Plan fan. Fast-forward to today. My 19 yr. old son/freshman in college "discovered" DCFC a few years ago (not through my CDs), and he is a huge fan. I make sure to remind him that I saw them in an awesome, intimate setting when they were only being played on college radio stations (RIP Album 88.5, WRAS in Atlanta).
The lyyrics remind me of the situation on the east coast with hurricanes & such, even though they describe earthquakes.

It's a good song but I've heard it too frequently on RP. I seem to be wearing out the PSD button lately. I'm hearing lots of good songs I've heard too much—and others that aren't so hot. That doesn't make for the seamless flow I enjoy—especially when I have to use it on overplayed songs that also seem overly long (esp. if you're not enjoying them). Sometimes it takes three clicks to get around one of those. e.g Peter Gabriel & Baaba Maal (& son) "Biko".

I've liked other things I have heard of theirs on RP but this one doesn't grab me, seems complex without catchiness, there's all this stuff going on in the background but it just doesn't gel.

I am nevertheless disappointed and do not find any entrance into "Codes and Keys".
Too complicated for me, I guess, leave alone it does not "rock" at any moment!
Gurrrreight tune. Really like the atmosphere that's conveyed here.
I wasn't really a fan of DCFC until Narrow Stairs, which became the soundtrack to a very nice road trip. After that I delved a bit into their back catalog and found that despite my prior ambivalence, I actually really enjoyed a majority of their music. Maybe I didn't like them before because they were so popular (even more so here in the Northwest).
Regardless, it's been nice to hear them continue to evolve musically and try new things. They're not getting stale, and that's a great thing!

This album doesn't quite have the same "lyrical imagery" as their previous albums, and it's a little more positive. But I still really like it.

All Death Cab for Cutie songs sound the same. Boring.
I gave it a 7 on first hearing it. I like it more as I've been hearing it, and I'm in the high 7's now.

Me likey... much more of a Postal Service feel to this new album, although I've found it to be lacking in the lyrical imagery and storytelling I've come to love from the Transatlanticism, Plans, and Narrow Stairs.
