There's no eye in the sky
Just our love
No unobstructed view
No perfect truths
Just our love
Just our love
And there's no verse
No monument of words
For our love
For they can't hold
All I know about my love, about my love

Storm clouds break
Pools remain memories for
Earth embrace
That umbrate up above
They become
New love
New love

There's no eye in the sky
Just our love, just our love
No unobstructed views
No perfect truths
Just our love, just our love

I would offer an explanation if I had something definitive but I don’t - I just dig this song.

yeah, i came in late to the game w DC4C, but when i got there, i couldn't turn back. i love their stuff. especially Cath, I Will Possess Your Heart, and the newer stuff I've heard this year.
lovely sublime and intelligent - just to 'blow' that old fart away ...

For me, the track is so middle of the road, some bugger painted white lines on it!!!

I love this song, but this comment is very witty - kudos for making me laugh even though I disagree!

I've loved this one since I first heard it here years ago!  Thanks BillG and Rebecca!

Bill, your segue from Shpongle's "The Epiphany of Mrs. Kugla" to this from DC4C was superbly sublime.
I'm tepid for DC4C to begin with, but this was the 2nd of their songs this afternoon...

Very captivating song. Best I’ve heard from them.
Death Cab for Cutie - is the band named after the song of the same name by The Bonzo Dog DooDah Band?  Can't think that 2 independent groups could come up with such a strange name!!
This band is really amazing, way underrated with much of what they have put out there, way under! The depth and level of composition reminds me of the anthemic complex stuff Pink Floyd, Al Stewart , ELP, and Supertramp put out years back.

Epic. Fools Overture by Supertramp comes to mind.

Lovely ebb and flow, slow building to a beautiful, epic climax. A very interesting band.
Well that was weird, in my half awake state, I thought i was hearing david gilmour singing
A quiet ambiance and the impression of "waiting" something soon, get arrived... A good moment to wish a happy New Year ! Best for 2020, Bill and Rebecca.
et on with it already......while we are still young these guys has issues starting songs in a timely manner........ Why must the start of the song be lyrics??

It's almost like they do it deliberately or something.
The into is very similar to 'As falls Wichita, so falls Wichita Falls' by Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays. I've always really liked that title.
I never think about playing them... then this song comes on, or one of several others, and I wonder why I don't listen to them more.

What is going on with this song? It sounds like there are two things playing at once. Has it always been like that, and I'm only now noticing? I actually like it better this way - the two streams are interacting with each other in a lovely and interesting way.

I know I'm hearing this differently than before, and that might be because of the FLAC files BillG's putting out there.  This track does sound a bit more complicated than I remember (I'm also finally over the flu/cold/crud and can hear normally again, so that helps too.)

So maybe you have to "blame" BillG for offering the FLAC files. :-)  PEACE and Long Live RP!!

This band should be more popular. Excellent music.
What an excellent piece of music and another brilliant choice by RP.

I bumped a 7 to an 8...although not just cuz of this track growing on me....the 7 tracks before this one were all 8s, so, in keeping BillG's AWESOME set going I had to bump it up one.

And I think another 8 has to come up to make it 8 8s in a row!

Long Live RP!

damn...next track (Run Like Hell by PF was a 9....here's to 9 9s in a row!

Heard this from a distance, a couple wines in, came into the living room and cranked it up!

Moved it from a 7 to a 9,

Which would you rather have, piano banging out intact chords or piano with left hand playing guitar chords broken into 3 notes over and over (forgive my lack of technical music words)
 msymmes wrote:

Nope. Technically, it's a percussion instrument. I guess because the keys strike the strings.
Wonderful lyrics but not much in length...interesting sound.
influenced by Pink Floyd methinks......

This song channels some 80s song I can't quite put my finger on. Icehouse "Electric Blue"? Alphaville? This is driving me crazy...
You get a "Ho Hum" rating!
Just a tip for fellow listeners.   Turn this up, up, up and drive safely.

A good example, for me anyway, of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts.

Very nice musical arrangement.

Really like the sound of this one. Too bad the lyrics are flat. (Wish I hadn't gone and looked them up. Sometimes helps my opinion of a song; sometimes it hurts.)

Sorry, don't like it.
Is this the one moment of brilliance on an otherwise disappointing album?
I don't know, I'm actually asking, having been disappointed by Death Cab and Postal Service in the past.

I love Built to Spill !!!
Reminiscent of Camel from the 1970's.  Very, very similar.  I like.

I agree — I believe guitarist Chris Walla plays a key role in the production of the band's songs, and he's produced quite a few notable records by other artists in recent years.
seems like some people are always looking for the payoff...

this song has really grown on me...
nice segue from bruce springsteen's streets of Philadelphia.  third song in a row w/ this kind of ambient feel.
I thought there was a Death Cab song I could get on board with, but then the vocals kicked in.

Do they have any instrumentals?

Great song,  perfect the way it is, hence,  needs no climax.  Too many songs already do that!

Yes, this sounds like the start of a great song and then, eventually, isn't. I think it could do with a more bombastic "pump-and-circumstance" ending

Still quite nice though.

 handyrae wrote:
I'm trying to decide if I like it or not. There's something there I find compelling, but then it also sounds like background music for a movie (the key word being background).

A lot of RPers are ambivalent or undecided about DCfC. I liked "Doors Unlocked and Open" that I bought the whole album, but after listening to the 4th or 5th song I realize that I don't want to listen to the singer for much longer. He's got a very mannered style that doesn't work with extended listening. And no, this song doesn't really take off despite hinting that it will.

Here? No. Try Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler. A close second, I suspect, is Peter Gabriel (as I write this, "Feeling Begins" from "Passion" is thundering away...).
