Sleeplessly embracing
Butterflies and needles
Line my seamed-up join
Encased in case I need it
In my stomach, for my heart
Chain mail

Hunger of the pine
Hunger of the pine

Sleeplessly embracing
Yawn yearns into me
Plenty more tears in the sea
And so you finally use it
Bedding with me you see at night
Your heart wears knight armour

Hunger of the pine
(Miley Cyrus: I'm a female rebel...)

Sleeplessly
Embracing
You

Realization grew on me
As quickly as it takes your hand
To warm the cool side of the pillow
I'm there for you, be there for me
I'll hum the song the soldiers sing
As they march outside our window

Hunger of the pine

Sleeplessly
Embracing
You

Une immense espérance a traversé la terre
Une immense espérance a traversé ma peur

Snakehouse like, introverted factory sound. Great!

I believe the assistant art teacher stumbled on the way out of the supply room.
I thought I heard Miley say
"Ima need dis Red Bull"
anybody know the story behind the cover art?
Me too! Forever grateful.
RP introduced me to Alt J. Thanks Bill
I'm the Vegan Rebel?
Takes me back to older days of RP, around 2014-2015.  Really happy the station hasn't changed, it's still a great place to get lost in music.
clever   original.

Mileys a big f'ing deal that is for sure.
I only ever heard about Alt-J because of Radio Paradise. For which I thank you heartfully. X

I appreciate their originality, but I just can't deal with that dude's singing voice. Sounds like munchkins on acid.

If you've listened to so many munchkins on acid that you're sick of them, then you are partying wayyy too hard, my friend.

Love their originality in music.  The album cover art is pretty, too.

Good.  Far too many cats killing far too many garden birds.

Not really but I see what you're seeing.
Thanks Alt-J for exploring the boundaries. And Thanks, Bill, for including us on the ride.

The 'dude' on the track is a sampled Miley Cyrus...

Thing is after years of the  "suck my big.." whatever hip hop, and the ever present 4/4 R-n-R of the 70s, Alt-J is pushing, pushing music, pushing imagery, pushing our very complacent sofa sitting arses to listen to something outside all of that.

And, at the grand old age that I have achieved, I am happy to say that I am pleased as punch to still be alive in a time when western music can be recreated and be new again!

I think by now there is enough evidence to render a verdict: the singer's styles is really annoying. It's not based on the frequent complaint here that a given performer has a bad voice (Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, etc.), an argument which I do not find compelling. Of course these judgments are all irrational in a sense. But the truly whiny sound is grating. Especially that lame "chorus" (I'm a female rebel? Is this what it says? If so, what the hell?). The appeal escapes me, even though the instrumental parts are interesting.

That, of.bam23 is of course your verdict, and you're most welcome to it. However, it remains yours; some others will agree with you. And many will not. You are neither wrong, nor are you right.

Awful and overrated

Really talented?  Not in this tune she ain't...

Well, it is just a sample.
Like a sad, weak version of Balinese Gamelan, only a version that is sung. Totally unlistenable.
 FourFortyEight wrote:
The tune is grand.  I knocked it down from a 7 to a 6 because they brought Miley into it.  And yes, she's really talented.  Her addition feels like a gimick.

Actually, I'm knocking down to a 5 now.

I feel that this is one of the best albums of recent years.  Each song compliments the ones around it for a cohesive flow.

The weakness of this is that the individual songs tend to not stand all that well on their own.  Take them out of the context of the album and you get... well, responses like most of those seen below.
Awful.

The video for this song is trippy. Check it out if you havent!
The Bristol office really enjoys it when Alt-J pops up in the mix.  Keep up the stellar work, RP.  We love you.

Or that rock you smoked when you got back from the Alt-J concert. "I'm a female rebel" coming from Miley Cyrus in this mix.  I don't know which one was trying to sell this song more.

No he doesn't - the kitten and him struck up a deal to play dead in exchange for another 8 lives...

Not really dead

As much as I dislike cats, it's just not worth it. I say let the cats live, they are the lesser evil.

I just don't understand. They are just inhumanly pretentious and god-awful. Please, please remove from the rotation ! When I think of the, almost literally, millions of other songs you can play my brain just starts to hurt....

Alt J = Awesome
Compelling.

I need a few more listens.
I get super annoyed by the "I'm a female rebel" sample. Is that bad?

I am COMPLETELY SMITTEN with ALT-J. Finally someone is pushing for more out of their beats and tones!!!

Although, this is not my fav, it is still better than 3/4s of the music out there in the grand freeway of music called "success"

Agreed, but Mr Stingray Mk 2 is a marked (sorry for the pun) improvement over the prior version, so I am happy he is enthusiastic.

There is hope for us all, sez I.

Okay, I give it a bump up now. I think this is better work than their previous album. One thing's for certain — Bill doesn't play pablum.

The local radio station has been playing "Left Hand Free" from the same album.  I really like that one.

What an album enjoying more and more each and EVERY day. Rivaling Awesome Wave” play for me....

Second very album from this band.  This song is wonderful, almost as good as Toro.

I'm a little disappointed no one put a ∆ symbol here.

Man, I'm liking this song more and more. Never thought I'd like a song with any Miley Cyrus in it.

It is.  Drummer was supposed to remix her song, and the band kinda wandered off on a tangent with it!
