Driving through the desert, I met a man
Who told me of his crazy plan
He'd been walking there for 20 days
And he was gonna walk on for 20 more
I said, "How 'bout a drink or a bite to eat?"
He said, "No, my faith is all I need"
I said then save me
Save me, Mr. Walking Man
If you can
Watch, you don't need to prove a thing to me
Just gimme faith, make me believe

Come on, save me
Save me, Mr. Walking Man
If you can
Aw, save me
Save me
Mr. stranger, if you please
Save me
Save me
stranger, if you please
Or am I too far gone?
To get back on, to get back on

I said, "How 'bout you take a ride with me?
We could kill some time or shoot the breeze"
He said, "Every whisperin' wind
And second counts"
Brother maybe if you walk but you should drive around

And save me
Save me, Mr. Walking Man
If you can
Aw, save me
Save me
Mr. stranger, if you please
Save me
Save me
Stranger if you please
Or am I too far gone?
To get back on
Ah, To get back on
(Scat)

I ain't asking you to turn off the sunshine, no
And I ain't asking you to turn water into wine, no
I'm not asking you to, to fly
I'm just asking you to, save me

You might try saving yourself
(scat)
You might try saving yourself
(scat)you may try, you may try
You might try saving yourself
(scat)
You might try saving yourself
(Scat)
oh, oh, oh
(Scat)
oh, oh, oh
(Scat)
oh, oh, oh

Yes Ameirca listens to "Alternative" Rock and Pop, and Country and Kenny G

This is why I want to move to europe!
He's brilliant! More, please.

I agree to the fist line, but I'd rather not hear this in any shop or shopping center.
I've only been listening to RP for a month; I'm in front of my computer an average of 4 hours a day - and this is the first Dave I've heard, so I don't get the "he's overplayed on RP" comments. IMO, he's a fabulous songwriter and has surrounded himself (either DMB or solo) with really fine musicians - what's not to like? but each to his own. I'm glad RP plays some of his stuff - this isn't my favorite song, but oh well. I've been to several shows at the Gorge (WA state), and agree that he appeals to a wide range of ages - lots o' kids for sure - but the fact that my 25 year old son and I both love DMB? I like it. Having something in common with your grown kids is a good thing - :)

Dave always elicits mixed emotions from thoughtful music listeners. I think, however, there is much confusion about him. His popularity among the masses is largely because they feel like they should like him - they haven't made a conscious choice about it, couldn't articulate why they like him. Last show I went to was filled with minions of teenagers running around like they were at a mall, not even paying attention to the music. ClearChannel won't really touch him any more (thank God). His best stuff is from the first few albums - the tracks you've never heard unless you own them, e.g. Typical Situation. That said, I certainly understand and respect anyone who rejects his style. It does tend to mix common pop themes and lyrics, with other more sophisticated elements (I personally see an existentialist struggle in much of his writings). There has always been a tension in what they do. Currently, I think we are seeing a transition period in DMB's work that began with the Lillywhite sessions (check out Digging a Ditch or Grace is Gone from that collection). Anyway, thanks RP for including him in the list - I think he belongs here.
Amen

A polite smackdown.

maybe even trey anastasio can't save this song...
A great song, in my opinion. I love his voice. Very Bluesy.
Better than the somber, stab me with a knife, I'm so down music he's been puttiing out lately. Enjoy the bluesy, energetic beat here. I agree with some below, a little produced in sections, but still a good listen.
Sometimes, words aren't adaquate to express how I feel about something. :P will have to suffice in this case. That is directed at the song, not the other posters. Well, not ALL of you anyway.

I think what bothers me the most about DM Band has nothing to do with their musical talent. What bothers me the most about DM is that they come off like something an organizational oriented MBA team would produce to sell albums. A highly polished, highly amenable, highly marketable music that gives the audience something familiar enough, that, when they dance around, they know exactly what to expect. Perfect.
Well said. I agree with you, and I am 'bothered' by the same thing when I hear recent Dave work. That said, I want to clarify that the reason why I am bothered is not exactly disappointment that Dave has sold out, but I am probably just jealous that he can play and sing with fine musicians as a way to earn a living. As much as his recent work bothers and, yes, disappoints me, I am still so very impressed with 'Under the Table and Dreaming' and 'Crash'. Work it Dave. Looks like a nice job from here.

I still don't get Dave Matthews - to me he is nothing special. Hootie & the Blowfish + Fiddle = Dave Matthews Band And in my neck of the woods (and I hope in yours) that is NO compliment. - Riff
*groan*
Why is the woman singing about a Maytag at the end
This crap grows on you like a frigging tumor, how many more complaints about DM being played all the time will it take to get this guy off of here?? Oh wait, nevermind, who cares

oh please... not Dave AGAIN.

Good choice. Nice meditation on "Saviours", with a satisfying conclusion, though I did have to check a lyrics page to see what the chorus was singing, which turns out to be the point. (Might try savin' yourself) I'm gonna save me (Might try savin' yourself) I swear those lips shine (Might try savin' yourself) As it, the moon, the moon it shines (Might try savin' yourself) Why don't you, save me (Might try savin' yourself) Come on and save me (Might try savin' yourself)

Okay Gypster, hang onto your pants... I actually like this one.
I spent a long time thinking that i liked dave matthews... then I realized that every "dave matthews" song that I liked, was actually blues traveler, Barenaked Ladies, or some other group with talent... in fact, I'm pretty sure thats the only reason Mr. Matthews been so succesful... people buy his albums hoping to get "The Old Apartment" ... I've come to realize the marks of Dave Matthews' work... poor instrumentals, horrid vocals on lead with decent vocals on backup/chorus, trite lyrics, and overall construction thats allowed to be bad for the sake of capturing the "live experiance". But thats just my opinion, you'll probally think I'm wrong.

Another interesting song from this Dave solo. thanks for the play, as always.
Gets better with each listen!
I really appreciate DM's ability to make interesting music. His latest CD is really an adventure and just the thing for those who are tired of the "Ants Marching" groove. Thanks for adding this tune to the playllist
I like a lot of Dave's stuff, but this one just doesn't do it for me...
:bangerbanana:
Like a lot of DM's stuff, I think it's just the other side of overwrought and over-produced. Fairly enjoyable despite that, fairly disposable because of it.
