Packing my suitcase, tan boots
Slip out the back door and nothing to loose
Full moon rising out on the road
Ain't carrying nothing but the heavy load

Turn in lose of the ties that bind
Feeling turmol in my mind
But I can't look back, these times are gone
I know, I can't go back home

My grand-daddy he left his things
He stands tall but he's kinda bent
His hands are warm
But they are strong
Takes care of his place, he lives alone

Now I'm sure he wonders what's happen to me
He's keeping it real, I'm living a dream
He checks the cows, Lord, he's up at dawn
But I know I can't go back home

There was a storm the other night
Had to talk to God, try to set things right
Church door was locked, Lord, I stood in the rain
Waiting for and answer
But it never came

I believe in living, give it all I got
I'm strong enough to except all that
A little piece of daylight, time to move on
It's just a reminder, I can't go back home

Just a reminder
I can't go back home

Just a reminder
I can't go back home
I can't go back home
No going home
Can't go back home

It's just a reminder,
I can't go back home

Just a reminder
I can't go back home

Just a reminder
I can't go back home
I can't go back home
No going home
Can't go back home

I wish RP would play more Shelby Lynne, I've always thought she had a good bit of talent.

i agree, and i don't normally like the genre i associate her with. and then i hear her and i'm like "nope, i'm totally wrong. she/this is great."
bumping from 8 -> 9.
Smooth vocals nicely punctuated with tasty licks. Throw in some hammond organ. That's the way you do it!
I didn't know Shaquille O'neal had an album!  Sweet!

Tony Joe White is fabulous; an unsung hero himself.

Ha ha! . . . a very worthwhile bump.
Very nice, I thought it was Joan Osborne singing with him at first.
Mediocré at best. Dull to me.
Haven't heard Tony Joe for years! Thanks Bill!

Saw him once back in the early 70's in Denver - opened for Cheech and Chong!

Very nice! This is weird, but at first I thought it was Greg Brown and Bonnie Raitt. Did a double take when I saw it was neither one of them. Yet another one to get because of RP. Woohoo!
Damn, this sounds good!
Oh nice.

THIS ALBUM WAS RELEASED in 2004!
Tony is another example that you can be an amazing singer,
without being a good singer!

Always liked him!
Wonder what Captain America did to lose his shield among all those saucy-looking ladies...
Also very nice!

My thoughts upon hearing this for the first time. Virtually identical in parts.

What a good thing it is to have Shelby Lynne supporting the Legendary Tony Joe White. The kind of tribute that doesn't require a great effort to be appreciated just on the basis of style, so the resulting tune is lagniappe.
Nevertheless - works with me!

Yeah, good to see he's still puttin' out some tunes.

I love Shelby Lynne doing her best Tony Joe White.  A great combo.

Please let's hear more Shelby.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH HA

I love this... Thanks
Still amazed at the lack of Shelby Lynne on RP. Her latest album of Dusty Springfield covers is really exquisite - I don't have files in the right format to upload - anyone?

Shelby Lynn is teh roxxor. I've got her solo album — or I used to — "I am Shelby Lynn."

Nice seque from the last song, too. Bill, your awesome tune-picking really makes RP. Nothing like a human being mixing it up the old-fashioned way. But, you know, on teh intarwebs.

I have to agree....it was quite spot on

you got that right. The resemblance is enough to make me wonder what the movie would have been like if Leonard Smalls had actually sung something in it.

Oh! that's why I know his voice. . .now that's all I can hear--the dang salad song
Sock a little polk salad to me, you know I need a mess of it ... Go Tony Joe
Stunning ... Do I need to say any more ... I could go on forever about how this song is just sooooo right.
Shelby Lynne, she sounds very much like TJ's daughter, doesn't she? I thought "hey, that's Michelle White!" but it wasn't. Same voice, same mood. Beautiful.
TJW - legend!

Nice! Great combination. How 'bout some Shelby, Bill? Maybe "Leaving" or "Thought it would be Easier".
Totally agree! Some Shelby would be nice!

Mr. Smalls was played by Randall Tex Cobb. To perfection. Great movie.

Perfect followup to Savoy Brown. I was actually thinking of this song when it was playing...
Awesome song. I love good blues ballads!

Gotta admire the unconventionality of that statement. Well said.

You stole the words out of my keyboard.
YES, please play some Shelby Lynneredtex wrote:
I whole heartedly agree!
Maybe I'm crazy, but listening to this song, I see Tom Waits and Faye Dunaway sitting next to each other in a dark bar - both with a cigarette and glass of scotch in their hands and never once looking at each other.

Perfectly stated. "This is why I listen to RP!"
Gator's got your granny. Chomp. Chomp chomp.
I bought this CD after hearing this cut on RP. It's a great CD, with TJ doing duets with several different females, including Lucinda Williams and Emmylou Harris. All this from the guy who did "Poke Salad Annie" in the 60s.

FYI, she played Johnny Cash' mom in Walk the Line.

Absolutely. I just checked and there's *no* Shelby Lynne (other than this) on this station!! That's just not right. My MP3s aren't encoded high enough to upload - can anyone help out?

Bad ass blues! Just bought the album....for that ONE song!

This is indeed Radio Paradise! Delightful music.

Just a side comment here, but some people may not know that Shelby Lynne's father shot her mother and himself to death while she watched on. Tragic really.
ok, that makes me goosebumply. how sad.
A lot better duo than Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood!

I thought I recognised her voice. More Shelby Lynne should be played on RP, IMHO. Her sister isn't too bad either. This song would be so much better if it were just Shelby singing. 5.
Like the addition of Shelby... haven't heard her before.
have good, get give babyarm
nice song, better than Pinpinela

"Got some Tony Joe White on the stereo..." Yeah!
Beautiful album cover. Tune isn't bad, either.
Tony Joe White? I think he's been around awhile. I heard another song by him a few years ago called Stud Spider and it might make you wonder if this guy's for real or not. I don't know....I laugh when I hear this guy.

I was thinking she sounds a bit like Bonnie myself!
This is all right, but you should check out the cover/collaboration that Shelby does of Tony Joe's "Rainy Night In Georgia" on her latest release, with TJ playing guitar - it's pretty awesome, then again it's such a good song to begin with.
