Interesting song, though they do owe Pink Floyd a little scratch for lifting the melody. It is different enough to where they would get by in court though. Kinda boring though so I don't think Floyd even noticed.{#Yawn}

track begins strong, gets chaotic, and then slides into over produced elevator music.

save it for the home shopping network.
Not feeling particularly creative today. This blows.

anyone else hear that in the synth melody line? i do - and it blows it.
I was wondering why it sounded familiar....

reminiscent of mid 90s stuff from DJ Sasha

Empire Of The Sun by =VincentLillis

Empire Of The Sun, mystical futureistic and slightly cheesy, like a weird 80's casino version of the Ancient Egyptians.

Yes, and yes.

I hear it and I agree, this could be an awesome tune without that...

How in the world are y'all hearing Janis Ian "At Seventeen?"  I'm not getting that at all. Otherwise, it's a decent enough song, I suppose - a bit repetitive, perhaps.

lol  I see the similarity.  I don't like boopy synth music much so I appreciated the jab.

Worst Album Cover of 2009 + Twin Peaks Theme + Janis Ian + J G Ballard Novel + Steven Spielberg movie = Empire of the Sun.

If I didn't know better, I'd would just throw this band away as self referential pulp but unfortunatley, they take themselves THAT seriously!

from the Wiki-thingwy:
Although the name of the project has been attributed to the 1984 novel of the same name by J. G. Ballard,<3> Littlemore denies this and offers an explanation, saying, "the name comes more from the idea of (and you'll see this in the ongoing videos) the fact that we're traveling around the world going to all the places of empires of the civilization where the sun has been a theme of worship. It's not based on the Ballard novel nor the Spielberg film of the same name

Seems like Janis Ian has a copyright infringement case!
I don't know why exactly but this reminds me of Twin Peaks... I don't even know who did the soundtrack. I'm going to check it out on google now.
I mean the first part of this tune...
I like it
love this aural landscape
Jeez, Twin Peaks much?
this sounds like one of those solo dudes that perform "live" at Downtown Disney, accompanied by their badly overproduced, overplayed undertalented homemade recordings. </snore>
were they watching the labyrinth when they designed the album cover?
Lotta Pat Metheny influence imo

If this is good for you, try this guys earlier album "Personality" with the Sleepy Jackson.  Quite outstanding I think.  Even earlier is very interesting.

Hach, Twin Peaks again....
I think this tune is a "snob test".

Mozart it ain't, but I find it to be a melodic, uplifting piece nonetheless.

More like Twin Peaks.  Did Maverick do Laura Palmer? Could be a possibility....

Aah, my favourite summer'09 Album (i know it was released in 2008, im late ;)). More Empire pls!

{#Fight} Interesting! No, Random Noise! No, Interesting! No, Random Noise! OK let's compromise and call it interesting random noise.

Not this drivel again...

That's the very first thing that popped into my head - Twin Peaks theme song.  I think a tad dated!

historic first for me and radio paradise:  three 1 votes not only in one day, but over the course of the last six songs (Jude Cole - 1, John Martyn - 1, this unspeakable garbage - 1).
OK, if the album cover was enough to really spark your interest on what this group is all about, you should check out their video, very bizarre...but that is exactly what they are shooting for:

A decent song to help chill you out after that John Lee Hooker song. "Filler" if you will.

I was JUST gonna say that!  All things considered, a pretty crappy melange of stuff.

What's up with the Twin peaks intro?
Interesting choice, Bill - the rest of the album is a completely differnt style of music. This one's one of my favourites though.

I have to admit that I don't know Twin Peaks ( I live without TV for many years now ) therefor I cannot comment this, but I have to say that I really like the cover artwork. I also see the ironical side in it. It's that much bombastic, filled with symbolicism and burlesque in such a bizarre yet touching way that I cannot take it serious, still cannot help but love it and also recommend the rest of the album, despite the poppy flair.

Has anybody seen their videos on youtube? This is next generation music. Great {#Crown}

Absolutely the main theme of Twin Peaks......

It reminds me of that French sci-fi movie with Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich and Chris Tucker, "The Fifth Element." Very weird but beautiful movie, quite funny at times. Chris Tucker was hysterically OTT...

Thank you RP, for introducing me to yet another artist I might never have heard elsewhere.  Fascinating upon first listen....
I'm not a fan of electronic music, but this is just bad-ass!

For those who don't get it - the cover is supposed to be ironic...!

Science Fiction auteur Dr. Ronald Chevalier certainly listens to Empire of the Sun when perfecting his Art of Relaxating, or looking to himself for inspiration.  Wait... is that HIM on the poster?

Awesome and you are strangers aren't they?
