There's something about Ben Folds that makes me like him and his music more than I should.
Wow, meaningful lyrics, nice composition and instrumentation - passable vocals - with those qualities alone this one soars above at least half of the RP cruft.

Today's tidbit of music trivia...he wrote this for his son, Louis, who also appeared in the video for the song. Louis is the older of Ben's twins, with Ben's daughter, Gracie, being the other twin. The twins have different birthdays, due to the fact that Louis was born just before midnight on July 22nd, 1999, while Gracie was born just after midnight on July 23rd, 1999. As obvious by the title, the song "Gracie" (on "Songs for Silverman") was written by Ben for his daughter.

Years ago I saw him play The Shelter, a legendary basement venue under the storied St. Andrews Hall in downtown Detroit. He was opening for Heather Nova, with his full band. Pennywise was playing upstairs, with full-house chaos, mayhem and noise. We were truly in fear of the wooden floor upstairs giving way and sending piles of pogoing Pennywise fans pouring through the ceiling. At one point a keg burst upstairs and sent beer flowing over the drum kit from above. Towels were deployed and the band played on. Finally Ben got disgusted with trying to play over the deafening racket upstairs. He grabbed a mic stand, climbed on top of the piano and proceeded to pound the ceiling and scream SHUT UP! SHUT!! UP!!!
It was great spontaneous theater, and hilarious.

I didn't like this song at first, I love every song Ben Folds has made, but I held out on this one, but it started to resonate with me... about how hard it is to grow up and the part where he says "and your so much like me... I'm sorry" really hit me strong. Kinda the reason I am not having kids... its really easy to mess them up

This song bugs me, and I don\'t know why. I like a lot of what I\'ve heard off of Ben Folds new album, but I just haven\'t been able to get into this one.
